Why is Christianity such a threat to Marxism?

Rod Dreher explains that Marxists viewed Christianity as a false religion that sanctifies the ruling class and keeps the poor superstitious and easy to control. In this video, he explains why such ideologies perceive Christianity as a threat and share essential facts to understand the issue.

Marxism hasn't had a significant influence on anything since 1991. Some of the ways of thinking that are grouped under the label "woke" have origins that were influenced by Marxism, but they are built on substantially different foundations. In particular things like Queer Theory or Critical Race Theory have no place for Marxism's central concept of class.

@@malibudolphin3109 I'm not familiar with DiSouza's book, but since it's subtitle claims that the American "left" has roots in Nazism it isn't even remotely relevant. Nazism was a variety of Fascism - an ideology which saw itself as the enemy of Marxism. The idea that America (by which I assume you mean the USA) has been socialised is utterly laughable. The only American politician of note in the last four decades who was any kind of socialist is Bernie Sanders - who's at the extreme left of the Democrats. And he's a Social Democrat, rather than a Marxist. If you want to understand what people on the economic left actually think, and where their ideas actually come from, then you ought to look into the issue by reading what they write, rather than what extreme right-wing media personalities like Glen Beck think.

It figures that the concept of Social Justice would be created by a Roman catholic priest. There is a lot of truth spoken here but I remember Jesus saying "The poor you will always have with you", and that Jesus commissioned us to make disciples not fight Social Justice wars, which is a different Gospel?

Social justice in the Catholic sense would mean protesting against abortion and the queering of kids at school behind parents back. That sort of thing. The poorest and most vulnerable people of society deserve justice as well. Marxist and communist thinkers and rulers weren't fond of the Catholic/Orthodox church either...

  • @loracoppola6644

When Jesus said "The poor you will always have with you", he wasn't instructing his disciples to ignore poverty. He was quoting Deuteronomy 15:11 "For the poor shall never cease out of the land: therefore I command thee, saying, "Thou shalt open thine hand wide unto thy brother, to thy poor, and to thy needy in thy land." KJV. If Christians truly followed the teachings of holy scripture, there would be no need for a Social Justice movement. Instead, modern Christians waste so much time and energy defending their own petty views of who is "in" and who is "out" of the fold. I call it the ' You Don't Christian(TM) like I Christian(TM)' pettiness.

You just unwittingly revealed the greatest weakness of premillennialism; in that millions of the citizens in the millennium under the infinite rulership of the Lord Jesus Christ, after the pretrib rapture and first resurrection will rebel against Him. This is why premillennialism isn't biblical. Humanity rebelling twice under the direct rule of God, especially during the latter rebellion while Satan is incarcerated in Hades?

"Faithful Christians"? Hm. There's a hard label to figure out. I notice Rod Dreher lumps "faithful Christians" with orthodox Catholics, or "faithful Catholics". Interesting clip. I don't see how anyone can get "marriage between one man and one woman is BAD" past the nose of anyone who actually is a Christian and is also paying any attention. Just because someone goes to a "church" doesn't mean they are a faithful Christian. By the way, regardless of Rod Dreher's lumping of Catholics and Christians together, his book "Live Not By Lies" is, I believe, an indispensable read for all Christians in America. We need to follow it's sage advice and do our preparing now: if we are not already in jail, that is.

There is nothing remotely Christian about the distribution of wealth because it requires the government to essentially steal from wealthy ppl and then divide it among ppl who did nothing to earn it. That's stealing. And according to God's law, that is a sin. The concept sounds righteous, but that's how Satan presents himself and his doctrines.

Acts 4 32 All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of their possessions was their own, but they shared everything they had. 33 With great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. And God’s grace was so powerfully at work in them all 34 that there were no needy persons among them. For from time to time those who owned land or houses sold them, brought the money from the sales 35 and put it at the apostles’ feet, and it was distributed to anyone who had need. Marx would say "sounds good to me".

Marx would not be ok with this because there is a huge difference in parties distributing “private property” as their individual prerogative vs Forced (stolen) wealth redistribution. The individual is sacrificed to the collective under Marxism. What people seem to miss about the early church is they chose to give and were not forced to give.

Jesus was proving a point that the man was not as righteous as he claimed because his wealth was his idol. Yes, for many of us Christians it still is. However, this incidence is not a command because Jesus knows that money doesn't solve the true needs of people because our true need is spiritual in nature. But, I agree, we Christians can be very rebellious against the Sermon on the Mount/Plain.

The most Marxist groups ever, were the earliest Christians. They were required to share everything except wives. They were encouraged to sell their big ticket items, and give ALL the proceeds to their bosses, the apostles. If they didn't give ALL the money to head apostle Peter, they could be killed on the spot. It's articulated in the Bible: Acts:5. Fight for justice, here on earth. Yet ... (1) "Judgement belongs to the Lord" and (2) "If your neighbor compels you to walk a mile, walk with him two." Marx DOES have an apparently valid criticism of Christianity, in this regard. Valid, that is, only IF the (correct) goal is to alleviate human suffering. There are many things of God that I cannot understand, and that are very difficult to accept. Alas, this is one of them. P.S. I hold Marx in derision, almost en toto.

Christianity means to deny yourself and pick up your cross and follow Jesus. Marxism is about the very opposite starting with the cardinal sin of pride, finding power in yourself as opposed to knowing the only real power is God. Marxism is all about individualized power in oneself. As we know as Christians that is where all sin begins and the most profound destructive lie the enemy tells us . Every sin starts with pride as demonstrated in Genesis, trying to be equal to or more powerful than God. And Marxism is based in pride from pride that's why most Marxist are secular..
