For those that don’t understand, this is the equivalent to making a shade the color of Elmer’s glue, and saying “hey, we have something for those with the most pale skin in the world”. Even those with really pale skin have an undertone. No one is PURE WHITE, just like no one is PURE BLACK.

I think most people get that. However, there are people as white as Elmer's glue and as black as pitch. There have been models, and I've occasionally seen people in real life. It's just not common, especially in America. Most people have an undertone and aren't at the extreme of the color spectrum. I get the outrage people have about this product. It doesn't really help anyone, and it shows that this business owner isn't too savvy and possibly doesn't want people with darker skin using her products.

I am a pale white woman. A foundation of pure white pigment would never work for me, just as a shade of pure black pigment won’t work for dark skin tones. The company uses other pigments to create warm, cool, and neutral undertones in every other shade other than the one in question. Why?

You do realize there’s White foundation. It can be used as is, or mixed with another foundation to make it lighter. So this is the same concept for those with darker skin. If it’s ok to make it for whites, then it should be ok to make it for blacks.

There are black people out there. We call ourselves black but most of us are brown. It's the smaller handful in certain places who are black. No other word for it. I've seen a few even in India who could use this. Their features are 100% India but they're skin is black. Beautiful actually. There's several groups throughout Asia,And Africa if you look. Clearly around the world now as we move around lol I'm in NY and bet I could sell that shade after a test spot for the customer to see. Wouldn't be hundreds but def a handful in a single day. This is exactly my thought! 40 shades on the 1st drop is iconic... From having models that are alibino to the deepest darkest shade of chocolate. Shades and undertones aren't the same. Fentys foundation tends to have more of a reddish undertone and tends to oxidize in more of a reddish-orangeish tone. Not ideal if you're dark with a neutral or even cool undertone.

Do I remember it right, the first time they were called out, their “darkest shade” was different on their site vs the bottle? 😅 I think the bigger issue is the CEO tried to placate the public with promises of inclusivity and the. they come up with that. It’s not like there’s no brand in the market they can benchmark with. It’s also so funny that she tried to find models that fit the shade, like girl, isn’t it the other way round? You should have had the model that you based the shade on.

Support a brand who supports YOU 🤩😍⭐️you have soooo many brands out there to choose from. Way much more established and high end brand ! Move on and don’t entertain negativity. Pick a better brand ❤️

It’s news because of how outright disrespectful this is. No brand has done something so clueless and out of touch. A creator was sent their original “darkest shade” which was indeed nowhere near as dark as it could’ve been. So the brand “extended”their range and the darkest shade was a literal black foundation. The only pigment in the ingredients list was black. Not a single person on this earth is pure black but the creator was convinced to prove otherwise instead of admitting that she royally fucked up.

Can you ask this chemist why they have yet to make a foundation light enough for pale skin and that does not oxidize to orange or some other weird undertone? I have to mix literal white tint with the lightest foundation for pale clients. Yes. Even European brands like Dior do not make foundation for light women. It may look like they do to those who do not have that skin tone but trust me it is not that light and it turns 🍊This black foundation is ridic but a small amount would be useful as a shade adjuster.

I have a male friend who is extremely dark. When he is in the sun, I can see iridescent sparkles on his skin. It's the most beautiful magical thing ever. I literally LOVE his skin. But, he gets treated so terribly by white and Asian women. They all claim to be scared of him or uncomfortable around him. This is literally a shame that a brand would be so insensitive.

It's nice to see creators I like being interviewed. Just ignore companies that don't expand. Most of the time no one knows who they are until they are in a scandal or people are outraged. This is probably done intentionally.

I'm not sure if this was meant to be racist/ offensive and not just bad shading and lack of understanding darkskin tones and undertones. Makeup has come a long way cause I remember there not being a lot shades or proper shades like there is now. I never heard of this brand till now and they seem still fairly new.

Don't get into a business to not do your research on your customers. If you can make shades for lighter skin tomes, then you can do the same research for those with darker skin tomes. If you don't want to do the work, then just don't put it out there expecting other to be acceptive to it. In this day in age and what's is going on in the makeup industry, she should have been prepared.

This is a literally a slap in the face. She's full of it if she didn't think people would peep this was a snarky response for not being inclusive in todays world and being called out. Do not spend your money with them. There's too many make up companies to be supporting one as shadey as this one. Fenty, lancome, lys, estee lauder, elf and even my favorite luxury brand pat mcgrath. Theses companies came out at different times and still try to be inclusive. Her excuse of testing it by going to Dubai was crap. I get it she wanted to claim her trip as a business expense but she could have found dark models here in the US. It didnt even math that well on the guy. If you look its still looks literal black. No sponge in the worlds can fix that.

Nobody questioned when Ariana Grande rem beauty came with literal black concealer and blasma foundation stick darkest shade is black and many other brands are there with black colour in complexion products

That concealer is meant to mix with other colors to darken then. And black/grey makeup sticks are for contouring to add shadows to the face

It all just reads ignorance and micro-aggressions. This woman clearly has eyes and understood that was unacceptable but she released it anyway. Furthermore, she can also see that black people come in varying shades, as do Latinas. I hope her people have her back.

Not all smaller cosmetic companies have the budget for big range of shades. They may know their customers and probably only create shades for those customer base.

No. Noones skin is pure black face paint. Its like creating a shade of chalk color and sayings its the palest shade. Its insulting.

I've seen pictures of supposedly the darkest woman known (I say supposedly, because I came across 2 different women) and even that color is too dark for them, like everyone is saying, human skin color is a mixture of under and over tones, not one color like a cartoon character. They knew this, they have literal chemist that come up with the formulas, they were trying to be funny. Take your money elswhere.

Some people to have very dark skin, darker than hers. I have the opposite issue I have trouble finding a shade fair enough for me that don't look yellow, orange or ghost white.

Well definitely a major fail by the company because I didn’t know them before because I live in Germany.Now I know them and will forever remember them for this nonsense here!They deserve every bit of backlash and if they don’t do a 180 they deserve to fail as a company!Enough make up brands out there anyways,do it right or not at all!

Idk, like if I can't find my shade with one brand, I just check another 🤷🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️ That's how I ended up using Maybelline for the past like 10 years. Not a single problem since 🤷🏽‍♀️

Darker shades have been difficult to create based on resources and lack of marketing to the proper demographics. I worked for a company that made customized foundation shades, adding extra colors from the color wheel to match individual undertones. It just wasn’t popular and over the years, never caught hold of the market. That line was inclusive with a wide range of base colors. Black owned businesses are more likely to be effective, appealing marketing, clean and environmentally friendly foundations. The owner in this company was most likely not included in the manufacturing and was told this had been tested when it was not. She probably needed to hit a launch date and never tried the product. I’m sure she regrets that now. It seems like she was shocked when she applied it to her model. One shade. Wtf?

If you’re interested, there is prior history with this brand not demonstrating undertone inclusiveness. She responded with a darker shade release, earlier than the deadline she gave herself. Recently she published a video of her scrambling to find a model for the shade in question. She ended up in a mall looking for models and hyped it as a victory when she found 2 people to demonstrate it on. (IMO, the shade didn’t match either man.) The lack of planning *prior* to the shade release, in combination with the aforementioned history, is befuddling to say the least.

I'm gonna say she knew but didn't care enough to go back. She swatched it on very deep complexions but still let it go to market. The people she swatched weren't even real potential customers, they were male models without a mirror lol the owner knew and should be embarrassed

We are no longer in the era where darker people will accept this excuse of “it’s difficult to create”. We have seen businesses do this & do it well the first try like Fenty so we know its just an excuse. I am happy this happened bc other brands will be careful when releasing a new range of inclusive foundations. If you dont have the budget for it, then dont do it at all.

I match my undertone on my neck, ears, and wrists...sadly in 2024, I havent came across a brand to get it right outside of Fenty but that makeup breaks me out...I love Estee lauder but I have to mix two shades to get my shade and makeup forever is now mortuary territory...😢

They don't have to make foundations for your skin tone tbh. Honestly

Perhaps I missed something, but, I thought it was purchased in an attempt to see if it was a good fit, like most foundations, you only get to see how it looks on you after purchase if you're not actually in store. It sounds like this brand didn't have different options for darker shades. That being said, if it has a good reputation, and you try it, and that is what many influencers do, review make up. It is pretty appalling, to say the least, to apply makeup that literally looks like black shoe polish.....and that is the ONLY dark shade carried by the brand. It had no undertones if any other color. So, yes, moving forward, now that this known, it sounds like some people will not be buying it. That seems to have been purposely done... Black shoe polish, the color of tar... black face.. It's also the history that makes it a sensitive issue, and while it may seem like complaining to those that don't have the skin, when you have delt with exclusion, discrimination, blatant insults, etc...... you get tired of the bull....and instead of sitting back and taking it (as history shows), people are mobilizing, speaking out, and taking their money elsewhere-while informing others...simple!

When said company makes a terrible product that obviously wasn't researched or tested at all IN RESPONSE to calls for more black representation in its product line, then people can certainly draw the conclusion that it is a diabolical racist conspiracy. Any benefit of the doubt people were willing to extend to the company the first time around is gone after their latest antic. Some companies are upfront about the fact that their products are designed with a specific skin tone in mind. Not sure why this company can't do the same instead of insulting people of color with its tone-deaf efforts at representation.

This brand is obviously incredibly mediorce and has no business working in an industry that focus on complexions. How, as a maleup brand you release a founsation that is equivalent to the darkest black eyeliner? To black face paint. Why does it turn grey when people try to mix it with a lighter color. For those who do not understand color theory, even artists, painters, do not use black paint. They use a mix of brown and blue to mimic black...which is something thia brand should have done. This brand is rushed, is not above manipulating imagery, has conciously falsely advertized their product and has failed basic AB testing. This brand either needs to go back to the drawing board or just die off. In the age of transparency, you cannot afford to lie, manipulate and half ass your product especially in a incredibly competive field such as cosmetics. Throw the whole brand away, we dont need another mediorce one

If they fix it and you like it, buy it. If not, don't buy it. There are plenty of other brands out there that are way better and get it right on their first time. This brand should know that they have a market full of competition, so if they drop the ball next.

Do not buy their products. There are options out there.

The creator made a tiktok of combing the streets for "real" people who matched 600 (the guy in this video) to show "it is a real shade." Hell no. It did not match that dude at all and didn't even match the darkest lady in this video. It's like they just decided "hey, we know that no one matches it, but no one can bitch we don't have dark enough shades."

I think it’s ok to stop forcing all brands to have every shade of skin tone. It’s ok for companies to specialize in certain skin tones . Like doctors focus on certain conditions which makes them more knowledgeable..

I see how stark the black colour is, however I’m not sure if this was newsworthy. There’s tons of other makeup companies out there to choose from that properly cater to women of colour, and it looked to me like the Youthforia spokeswoman was of Asian descent so I don’t think it’s necessarily purposeful discrimination, it’s just a happenstance of a poor product, no different than any other half a** products that are made these days. For all you saying this would be likened to a pure white colour makeup product, if a company made a pure white coloured product (which I’m sure with all the brand competitors that someone already has) it wouldn’t make the news, nor would as many women be offended by it, and I’m just pointing out the facts here, not trying to offend anyone more than they already are.

The people that 'matched' didn't have it on. That is the cleanest beauty blender I've seen outside a store...they intentionally didn't put a lot on.

Just don't buy it then. There are literally thousands of cosmetic companies in the US alone.

We know what blackface is. YOU need to look up what blackface is and the implications of the practice. Instead of trying to diminish the impact this crappy product has on darker skin maybe learn the history of dark skin women in beauty, modeling, entertainment, etc. it goes much deeper than blackface. Don’t know or care what your race or complexion is. Being insensitive and lacking compassion isn’t limited to one race. Just know for dark women it’s more than blackface.

I’m a black woman. I thought we wanted a range of shades. One minute, we can’t find shades dark enough, and the next minute, the shades go too dark. Just get the shade that works for your skin tone. I’m confused.

Did you watch the video? All skin has undertones, which means that shades of makeup are mixed with different pigments to mimic skin (red, yellow, blue, purple). No one has completely Black skin. But this particular shade they put out is PURE black. As a makeup manufacturer, they should have known better.

Even the darkest skintone for black people, u can see they are a very dark skintone. That's what the popular on the video and many others trying to say.

The problem with this brand last year was that their darkest shade in the bottle didn't match packaging and online images. It was very light. They released a new shade this year. One. This deep black, which does fit the person @2:11, but nothing in between. So, they're hypocrites. As for people just can't go buy a different foundation, one which does have a better range, well, that's a whole another discussion. But this brand apologized last year, and came up with one color, which is commonly found in market under black face paint 🤭

This is why we need to make our own.

I get selling pigments to help change the undertone of a foundation but this is straight up pitch black! So insulting to POC! In my humble opinion, brands like Beauty Bakery and Juvia’s Place know what they’re doing!

Here is an idea! If you don’t like the product or the company don’t support them and don’t buy their products. Easy fix! No move on and support companies that include products that suit your needs.

I am black and have family members of all different shades. so it does not seem weird to me. there are true 100% black people of the African continent that are black just like the makeup being presented. so to say that the makeup is just wrong, would be insulting to African people that actually match it. Maybe the company wanted a tone that matched the darkest, most blackest African skin. Humans don't know what they want: insulted for being left out, then insulted because it is not the color black you were expecting. Instead of attacking the company, just ask them to make even more dark shades to choose from. Or make your own makeup. There are so many beautiful black African models with the same shade. and there are so many black Africans that are KZreadrs with the same shade. it's best to research why they chose that color rather than blasting someone without all the information.

Did you watch the video? No one on earth has skin that is completely Black, which was what the foundation was. All skin has some type of undertone, and this was the only shade in the entire range that wasn’t mixed with other pigments for undertone.

Extremely dark brown but not charcoal or jet black and i know this for a certainty because i grew up in Africa(Nigeria) (been to several countries in Africa ,even Sudan in East Africa where they have some of the darkest skin tones and even they aren’t Black) most of y’all just base your talk on pictures from the internet, you can’t find a single jet black person in real life 🤦🏾‍♀️🤦🏾‍♀️

I’ve never worn foundation because I’ve never found a foundation that was medium black with Yellow undertones…

They sent the lady makeup to review, she reviewed it. This sparked a conversation, nothing wrong with that.

It’s very likely someone’s skin tone is actually that color. Just because this dark-skinned woman’s skin is lighter than this color doesn’t make the entire color not natural-that is in fact colorism to call it an unnatural skin tone. Like what? How about it is too dark for her but is she the confirmed darkest person on earth to determine that? Also, people of all colors often mix shades to create the perfect one for them, perhaps this can be used as such seeing as there is no way for any company to create the entirety of human shades. I’m a light-brown skinned person who never finds a shade that matches and always have to mix them to find the perfect match. Also judging from what I see from a lot of white women who wear foundation, they also struggle with a perfect shade.

That shade is not able to be mixed, because it’s pure black pigment (which no one’s skin is). I wish they would have included it in this video, but I saw where people tried to mix this shade with others, and the end result was a shade of gray.

@@helloooo7703 Thank you for that as that is a detail that was not included, they noted that it did not include any undertones which with makeup can sometimes be achieved by mixing in other shades of same or other products. That being said there are some people with black colored skin, they exist even if they are not models or influencers to prove it and they are human.

There are plenty of people with this skin complexion. Dark doesn't automatically mean bad
