I'd love to hear your take on Drill Rap. The culture and the rap itself. I know nothing about it outside of the tribal nature of the performers.

The thing is with taking the lords name in vane is that it's part of the culture now to exclaim 'jesus christ' or 'for gods sake' or 'praise satan and his dark horde' or something similar as almost a reflex in certain circumstances and nobody ever finds it offensive, and then if someone asks you not to it can be a little stressful as you're then trying to alter ingrained speech patterns. I'm speaking from experience as in Scotland here I came across an older lady at work that was religious and she didn't like it. I had quite a time of it trying to comply because I swear almost constantly too, I was also reading Darwin's book about evolution at the time which seemed to break her mind marvelously. Still we were really good friends despite our differences and I missed her terribly when she retired. huzzah!

The funny thing being an agnostic who has taken comparative religion courses is how many Christians don't even understand major aspects of their own religion. The whole thing about not "taking the lords name in vain" roughly translates from a phase that more accurately translates to "do not CARRY the lord's name in vain", as in carrying a war banner. It's a way of telling people don't do horrible things (like killing a bunch of innocent people) and claim you are doing it in the name of God. It has nothing whatsoever do to with not saying god dammit when you are upset (cultural or not), which should be obviously considering the fact that when these holy books were written the English language and it's phases wouldn't have been a factor. Though in my experience, there are always going to be those whose primary attraction to religion is borrowed authority because they love telling others what to do and how to think. They are typically also are the ones who know the least about what they preach, have the most emotional reactions when their confirmation bias and cognitive dissonance is challenged, have the most hypocritical double-standards in their "rules for thee, but not for me" mindsets.

@@Soxfandan The thing is, with expletives, whether they are religious or otherwise, they would not be effective at all if they weren't taboo. They have to be taboo in order that they express "My emotion is so extreme in this moment that I don't care that I am breaking taboos". If they weren't taboo then they wouldn't convey anything but their bare meaning (as is illustrated in the film The Creator at one point when the translator app used by the military translates the enemy as saying "make love to yourself and make love to your mother too". Replaced with acceptable nom-taboo words the expletive loses all it's meaning.

@Fatsmuffineater As far as I know, saying "Jesus christ or "for gods sake" has always been common (I'm 55 btw) - but I can't recall ever hearing anyone say "praise satan and his dark horde" - but it's cool, so I'm going to start making a point of using it - thanks, and keep spreading the (ungodly) word(s) !!

Individualism is partly what got us in this mess in the first place.

Yes, herd mentalities and mindless group think are the fault of individualists. Spoken like a true brainwashed collectivist. Let's just all be apes who reflexively side with whoever looks the most like us and keep fighting primitive tribal battles forever. That's working out great for the middle east.

Can you elaborate? I mean the problem atm is identity politics so Im curious how you feel being your own person and not following the herd is a problem. I'll admit I dont know if you are using individualism to mean a specific type of lifestyle although I suspect you might be so was curious.

Sharia is totalitarian, statistically most Muslims are supporting sharia. In 1970' few books written by leftist intellectuals stated that there is no chance for socialism in The West, because the people are too individualistic. Those books did get some traction among leftists in the 90', so they decided thy need more collectivist people in The West, so plan for mass immigration was devised. Islam was main choice, because it is the largest collectivist religion, and they are quite hostile towards liberal west, revolutionary potential was also a factor. Identity politics, how Zuby framed that? I don't think that was important factor.
