@@sirfrancisgaming9438 I think based on appearance. I notice Swedish people dress up as if it's a special occasion whenever they go out, even just to a bar. I don't and I think it's pretty silly to do so but I have been told I couldn't order cause I looked "wasted" (I had one beer). Any place in sweden where you find väktare whose job is to stand around and look for people who are "too drunk" they just look for reasons to kick people out. It's super counter-intuitive to kick people out even if they really are "too drunk" because if you're just sitting down and not drinking anything to feel better or to calm down or whatever they still can kick you out. I have heard horror stories of people left out in the cold winter

Shops closing at 6pm? Most shops - at least grocery shops - close at 9 or 10 pm and malls are usually closing late every day also at the weekend. Very few Swedes don’t speak English. But it is not the same as wanting to speak it all the time. So of course in class, in Sweden, lessons are held in Swedish unless it is an international course. Winter is obviously dark, but the same goes for NL. And yes U need a ticket to get on a train - of course. I think you must have been perceived as very persistent if you were pushed - Swedes don’t usually get physical with anyone unless being very provoced. Getting to know new friends IS difficult, especially if you are an adult. But in my experience this quite common for people moving abroad to many countries since you just don’t know the codes. Perhaps a little bit longer than a few months. I think you need to choose a perspective - if you move to somewhere unfamiliar you will always find stuff that u find weird and don’t like, but if you are curious and want to know a place you will find the nice parts. But U do U - we would never force you to stay if you don’t want. BTW I was in Singapore once - terrible experience- nasty people, super ugly city with only a few beautiful places and spots. Expensive too and very impersonal. But I didn’t give it enough time to understand the vibe. So in my case I would love to go back!

  • @Zerashadow

I'm Swedish and used to work on a train with serving back in the day, and some conductors can be ruthless if you don't have a ticket, it's stated on the trains and busses that you have to have a valid ticket BEFORE entering, and many times i had old colleagues from the train being attacked by people on the train, both comming from male and female, usualy 20 - 30 years old, and especially if ti was a student event, i'm guessing they don't want the hassle to deal with potentially drunk or disshonest people at 3 am. Never seen anyone got refused to a club without a reason, usualy cos they are considered, by the bouncer, too drunk. But then i never went clubbing in Stockholm or Göteborg, too big for my tastes, but if he told you "you should leave, you won't be getting in anyway" he might have seen how much people there were, and knew you would not make it in time, or the club would be filled before your turn, so no point in you wasting your time waiting.

Some clubs have very specific dress-codes, which they don't want to discuss, they just are what they are. Or about tattoos, or hair-style, or whatever. There might be memberships so that some can get in, when others get to hear the place is full. No sane Swede tries to go to clubs in Stockholm, it is not worth it at all, crowded, snobbish, and no fun, and that is how it has been for ages. Other Swedes than Stockholmians call them 08'ers - because some of them are visibly their own neurotic species, a bit obsessed with their outwardly superiority. Much bling-bling and pretense. But most of people in Stockhom are kind and reliable, and just like normal people not interested in clubbing until morning, but having interesting hobbies and diverse pursuits in their free time. It is with the help of the latter you'll easily make friends with Swedes, even as adults. Sweden is worth a second chance.

So easy saying being white solves everything. I’m white, as white as you can be, so is my gf, and we lived in Stockholm for 3 years, experiencing the same exact situations you describe. Once we saw a bouncer kicking a woman out of a bar for spilling some beer. Yes, just sipilling beer because she was carrying 3 glasses from the bar to the table, and when she put them on the table one of them tilted and spilled like 10% of its content. The girl was white af, and she got kicked out for “being drunk” when she hadn’t started drinking. Another time, a bouncer asked me and my gf how many drinks had we had, before allowing us to enter the bar. We said none, which was true, but he said that was impossible because it was 9pm, so he didn’t let us in. Another time, when coming home at night in the tunerlbana (metro) there was a guy that closed his eyes for a minute, sitting perfectly straight, and he was kicked out for “sleeping” in the metro. He was also white. I have to say I’m not swedish, but Sweden is a tough country even if you are a white european. They just have a loooooooot of unwritten rules that are stupid but enforced to a crazy point

Hahah ok!? Tough country? Then you were unlucky. I´ve spilled beers and drinks many times, and nobody have noticed or cared a bit. The thing with "kicking out" sleeping (potentially drunk people) from the subway is for their own safety! For them to not getting robbed while sleeping or hurting themselves, falling on the tracks and so on. We are excessively caring in Sweden (that´s why we have a immigration problem 🙄We think good of all people and want to protect them. To a point that we will eradicate ourselves. Naive and gullible. Sweden can be an experience that grows on you, but it sure is not for everybody. Sweden is dominated by Swedish culture, here it is not common with a China town, a Jewish village within a city, or even Italian parts of town. Outside the center of our bigger cities there can be places where many Muslims live. But all in all, Sweden is Swedish through and through, and it seems no Swedes have a wish to change that. For many Swedes even Danes and Finns are very foreign and strange, and the prejudice is strong and deeply rooted. So all who hope for an international atmosphere will be disappointed. Sweden has not have colonies overseas like the Netherlands, so the population is not familiar with such customs.

In my town in Sweden stores are open to 10 or 11 PM and there are also gasoline stores that is open 24 hours a day. I live in a medium big Town. Norrköping is btw one of our biggest cities. If stores have closed down at 6PM you must have been far out on the countryside and not in a city. I have worked as a truck driver for hundreds of stores and 99% are open to at least 8PM. Why you are not accepted in transports or clubs and complain that you cannot get alcohol easy sounds like you have a problem with alcohol. Also the way that you say "I don't think that I have a problem with alcohol" is a big red flag. Is that why you go to the Netherlands where drugs are legalized? We have great help in Sweden if you have a problem with alcohol, gambling, drugs or if you have been assaulted etc. I am sorry that you didn't like your journey here. As you probably experienced in this comment section, people get weirdly defensive about it too.

Hello, from Sweden ^^ Sorry you got to see the bad side of Sweden with the clubs not letting you in, I can't say I have experienced anything like that but then again I am white. Though, I also don't go to clubs xD Anyway, considering the big rise in support of the (obvious in my opinion) racist political party, this does not surprise me. I am shocked that people don't realize what they vote for to be honest... On the train conductor part... That is their job. They have to be "aggressive" or at least show dominance because that is their workplace. And if you do not have a ticket they will throw you off the train. You can't buy tickets on the trains. And sometimes they wil charge you with a big sum of money if you attempt to ride anyway. So consider yourself lucky that you were not let on at all. Truthfully. I doubt the train conductor had anything personally agaisnt you. Imagine, it is late at night already as you said, last train and all. They probably already dealth with A LOT of people trying to ride for free. And the more you talk back, the more likely it is to get shoved off, because they still work under time pressure. Also, the food? Only the swedish food? You didn't try any of the millions of pizzerias and chinese restaurants and vietnamese restaurants e.t.c.? I feel like there are more of these than regular swedish meatball restaurants. But then again.... Dutch "snacks"..... Not snacks!!! It's bland to me! Like... sausage bread? And no ketshup? Yeah no thanks xD

I think you just had bad experience or unforunate events. People can be assholes that's for sure, but doesn't mean the whole country or all Swedes are at fault. Easiest thing to say is it's because of racism, which is not always the case. Sometimes it's the case of people being entitled and think everybody should bend over backwards for a nice cultural experience. Live, work, study, pay your bills, try to integrate and learn language, but don't expect pat on the back in the end of the day. Navigating without swedish knowledge should not be that hard, most of the people know it, even elderly. So again, you just had bad experience. I live in a village in the middle of nowhere and people know english. The club stuff I can't argue because I don't go clubbing. Either way, you do you.

hi leo :) totally agree that just because of my bad experience doesn’t mean that all Swedes are at fault which is why if you watched the video, I repeatedly said that I’m not generalizing and was just unlucky that I experienced what I’ve experienced. Again if you watched the video, I wasn’t necessarily blaming it all on racism but it is a factor (even my Swedish friends agreed). Another thing, if you watch the video :) I do integrate and learn the Swedish language because I genuinely love the language which is why I mentioned that the language is not hard to learn 🫶🏼

you forgot to mention what's become by far the worst issue in sweden; the imported crime. and if you wanna experience racism, try going to russia, pakistan or africa. i don't know where you have been, but western countries are actually the LEAST racist countries in the world.
