    I am really not a fan of how the bundles are priced at nearly $100, like why would I pay a fortune for a digital card game, when that can buy a entire new game an a half.

    I bought Stardew Valley, 20 minutes Til Dawn, Wizard of Legend, Cat in the box and The Witcher 1-3 with the DLCs for 3 on steam and I paid less than the bundle in the video. (Okay, that was with the winter sale, but the point still stands.)

    I feel like this is going to be a much bigger discussion in another month or two when the majority of players are pool 3 complete. Getting 1 new card a month on average is insane, and while there's a lot you can do in snap with just pool 3, they need to come up with a new system.

    Thats not even mentioning the new change coming through, that if you were to get a new card it will give you 400 tokens flat instead. It is a huge problem. I have pulled 3 series 4 cards and 1 series 5 card. I have about 14 series 3 cards left which given the pace I am on, I expect that to be done in about a month to a month and a half. By which time 8 new series 5 cards will have been added...

    As somone who squeeked into starting pool 3 last month i quit from there because i noticed the biggest gap in deck quality that i cant reach until i get that specific card for example all the iron patriot decks i saw i have him but no mystique or ultron also an on reveal deck (i played that alot in series one and 2) oh i dont have wong yet. Id say starting series 3 is when u really notice how shit the system is.

    Totally agree. My interest in play Snap is waning because not only the series 4 and 5 but also the slow progress through series 3. It's a drag see other players decks using cards and combos I want to be playing but could be up to two or three cards short to play the deck. I find you get "stuck" playing the same deck because you only have the cards for that one deck. I'm exaggerating slightly buy honestly I'm really not the far off the truth.

    Yeah, as someone who's played since early beta and has all series 3 cards with a few 5 and 4, it becomes very tediously unfulfilling to level up cards only to get little to nothing in the late game. I'm at collection level 3,607 and it takes ages before I get a new card, as recieving the collectors tokens from a collectors reserves feels like the worst as I get only 200 out of the necessary 3,000 or even 6,000. Although the gameplay loop is pretty fun not gonna lie, minus the meta at the moment.

  • @szuwen007

    The tokens are worthless at the moment. Getting just a 100 every time makes it take forever to get series 4/5 cards for example. I rarely get cards from the caches. I don’t get why they put so much items into it. Makes it take forever to get the cards you want.

    It's such a dumb monetization & economy. And then the bundles are like 50 to 100 dollars. FOR NOT EVEN 1 SERIES 5 CARD. like it's paying almost twice the price of a AAA game for what, 10% progress? Not even half of a game?

    For me, I'm so disappointed by snap. I'm not the sort of person who has a mind for big card games so a game where you've got 6 turns and 12 cards in a deck worked really well for me and I was actually able to get into it. I've tried with MTG, Pokemon and Hearthstone but I always get way too overwhelmed by the exorbitant amount of cards that there are and how you have to watch out for this thing or that thing and know a whole lot about everything in order to play. So Snap started out great. Then I hit the bump. Where I started to face more and more people who had all these cards I didn't have and it just felt like I didn't have enough options in my card pool to effectively deal with it. Other people just seemed to have the better decks using things I didn't have. But I tried to persevere and I even managed to get up to 75. For some reason that then meant Snap's terrible matchmaking decided I should be playing against people who had already hit infinite, had all the cards, had maxed out, inked out versions of cards and I just got destroyed after the season reset. I'm nearly back down to 30 from 40 because I keep going against players who are just better and the matchmaking doesn't seem to be taking that I'm getting my shit pushed in into account. I don't even have all the Pool 3 cards yet and for some reason I'm still going against players who can craft better decks than I can because they HAVE those core cards. I can't make a better Darkhawk deck against people because I don't have Rockslide. I can't have a Jane/Lockjaw deck because I don't have Lockjaw. I know part of it is skill issue, as said I'm not great at card games but the game at the reset of this season took a HARD turn against me and it has not been fun once since the reset. I've given up. I'm so disappointed because what could have been a card game I could actually play has turned into nothing but frustration and anger. I don't have the money to max out my Collection level and get all the good cards. I'm going against Thanos, Shuri, Hela and Knull decks and I don't have those cards to play, or the brain to know where they're going to play what or what might be coming next and how to prepare for it. Yes, I know. Skill issue. But the fundamentals of a good card game aren't even there with Snap. It took them so long to release a Friendly mode and even that I think is wrong with how you're locked into the same deck for 5+ rounds. There's no practice/single-player mode where you can crash course decks you've just got. There's no Casual/Rank split so even if you're just there to have fun, the chances of going against someone who's not just there to go hardcore and win is next to nothing. It's just not fun anymore and that's what sucks the most.

    When this game was announced I was very excited. I used to love Hearthstone and it seemed like Ben and his colleagues had made a number of significant innovations in the CCG space with Snap. • @adamn7777
    @adamn7777 Жыл бұрын

    It's really a baffling monetization system. I get their thinking that once you have a complete collection it's not as fun because you have nothing to build towards but they still landed ass backwards into that problem by making pool 4 and 5 cards so absurdly rare. Playing optimally you get around 500 collectors tokens per week that means it takes 12 weeks to get 1 pool 5 card which is 4 per year when they're introducing 3 per month with thus far no plan on how and when they will move stuff down pools. That or you got extremely lucky or were one of the chosen few that got to participate in the beta and got given a huge number of tokens when they introduced the system. I'd spend money on the game if I had a reasonable chance of getting stuff I wanted in a reasonable time frame but this is absurd

    I feel the exact same way, Zeddy. WARNING: LONG POST. I just started a few days ago, and I didn't start earlier because I saw your first video about the Nexus events. I figured if they remain predatory, I shouldn't join, but friends convinced me. I haven't paid a cent yet, but I'm a whale when it comes to digital card games. I love buying cards to play the cool new things. At first, Snap was instantly failing for me. I love playing games for hours on end to grind up a collection level and get a first impression. I can spend a day or two to dedicate to a game to get a feel for it so I can quit before committing a whole week or a month. Then I realized that Snap does NOT want to be played. It only rewards you for playing after 8 hours up to 32 hours where it punishes you for not playing. Then at second, when I figured that out, and started to play it less, I am LOVING it. It's not what I want, god no, I want everything in the game, but fine, I enjoy the game enough that I will succumb to its shitty slow playstyle just to unlock a few cards. Until literally my last 8 hour cycle, I've been unlocking maybe 2 cards per day as I just finsihed Pool 1 and started Pool 2. Now I'm in P2 and a single card is 8 collection levels away? Yikes. It's becoming harder and harder to unlock cards. I've been thinking about buying Zabu because everyone says he's exceptionally strong so from MTG Experience, 10$ for a card isn't a lot... but I've also been thinking about buying the 100$ bundle for credits and boosters to just jumpstart a few collection levels. I'm worried that once I spend these 110$, I'll end up not having those options for when the stale-grind-wall hits again. And it's a shame because that means I just can't play this game I enjoy. The developer's theory is "Everyone collects cards slowly so that everyone has to build decks with what they have instead of netdecking / playing the best deck." This theory is bullshit for multiple reasons: 1) Everyone who started at the beginning has collected enough cards to net deck each other. They can post and share lists online with the only roadblock being a new card's release may not be instantly accessible, but they still have everything else thusfar. 2) Collecting cards to build new decks (the "meta"game) is just as fun as the real game. The meta-game is an extensive boring grind as we have to wait massive amounts of time, waste massive amounts of resource, for maybe one random card. 3) New players are punished because they can't play the cool decks their streamers or friends are playing; it'll take them just as long to grind up and "join" their friends - notably, if their friends are still relatively active (only every 30-ish hours before that 32 hour mark is good enough) then both the new player and the friend are "leveling up" at the same speed, but the "fast" speed for the new player is all Pool 1 so they're NOT GOING TO CATCH UP. YOU CAN"T INVITE FRIENDS TO THIS GAME. There's many more issues I have with the metagame of Marvel Snap but I need to stop typing. Infuriating.

    Was just really a matter of time before a Ben Brode game would be like this. If you remember in HS when he was in charge the model was much greedier and balance changes were very minimal. I'm collection level 1800, and I've had some pretty good luck so far. I opened Attuma (series 4) and Knull (series 5), both of which caught me by surprise. I immensely enjoy "wasting" my gold on variants in the shop, and even some of the bundles. I can see the issues higher level players are having in the late game coming for me when I finish series 3, but that's still a couple months away.. and by then Snap might have the new rotation system where 5 and 4 cards drop to series 3. Time will tell.

  • @XoIoRouge

    @XoIoRouge

    Жыл бұрын

    Personally, dropping the cards from 5 or 4 to series 3 won't cut it. It's not about the series for me, it's about the pacing of the grind. I've only just got into Pool 2 and I love this game but I want to play it for a burst of 4 hours, maybe 5 hours. I stop earning credits after 90 minutes (finished all missions). So the remaining few hours of interest I had won't help me progress my collection. I don't want to just play the game, I want to play both the game and the metagame. I can't do that once I'm done with my quests. So I'm already against what I want to do, but I'm sacrificing my own wishes because I enjoy the gameplay. Well now I've just started pool 2 and I can barely unlock cards. In Pool 1, I could play 90 minutes every 8 hours (give or take IRL schedule) and unlock a card. Now in Pool 2, the unlocking metagame extends to 1 card per day as I can't get enough credits. I can barely imagine being in Pool 3 and not enjoying it because I get one card at a time. I don't want P3 to be diluted with P4 and P5, I don't care about the pools. That's not the issue. The issue is reasonable accessibility. If Pool 1 was given to everyone for free, Pool 2's grind was expedited to be faster than Pool 1, and Pool 3's grind was expedited faster than P2, then we can talk about how Pool 4 and Pool 5 can exist outside of Pool 3 but equally (they should just exist in the collection queue!)

    By the way, if you want to keep up with the game by buying credits everyday, it's gonna amount to $8k a year, this isn't counting they push out like $400 worth of bundles a month. This makes hearthstone's monetization look like a drop in the ocean.

    I quit today. At the end of the previous season, so a few days ago, I manto just get into rank 80, went up to 89. The only ranks where you're definitely playing real people. Where losses are logical or due to your own mistakes, and not thanks to miracle cards at miracle moments. Like it is with everything under rank 80. I started the new season at 50, immediately lost a ton of cubes in a few duels. Snap was never hit, but somehow I always lost 8 cubes. Fell all the way back to 41. Even my turns began to skip automatically, often the first, 3rd and 5th turns. Just skipped, ended without me getting a chance to play a card, without even touching my screen. This game has stressed me out to the max Has enraged me beyond anything a stupid game should be able to do And has robbed me off 5 times more cubes than the total count of what I've won. Every time I lose: somehow 8 cubes, 4 minimum. Sometimes 1, if they retreat. Every time I win: 1 cube. 2 max. 8 once a week, maybe. I can't keep justifying playing this game. It is literally shortening my life with all the added stress. And it's so fkn addictive, quitting was really fkn hard. This game really isn't something anyone should recommend to anyone else. It is sò toxic, so unhealthy, the entire environment alone.. then the added option of allowing players to spam you with emojis and snaps. And the inability to block them, or even report them. Despite the report button, you need personal info that you "find on your profile page", which btw does not even exist in this game. And once you leave the duel to check your imaginary profile page for info you need to report a cheater or bot, you can no longer go back. "Well, let's look for the player and report them like that", you'd think, right? WRONG! There. Is. No. Search. Bar. Not even a friend list. I don't understand how a released game can have sò many flaws, and stìll ask you for money to give you benefits. Which, btw, in their advertisement they said is nòt something that's possible. So they lied. If anyone wanted too, you could literally sue them for that. That is false advertising. Without a doubt. In the trailers for Marvel Snap the guy lìterally says "in other games you pay money to get the best cards, in our game you get cards by leveling up, we've eliminated that to keep it as fair as possible", paraphrasing a little. That's a lie. Ergo, that is false advertising. Anyway, now I need to go find yet another new game.. 😮‍💨😮‍💨 Maybe I should just instead play that pre-installed word game instead of playing anything from the app store again. It's all the same toxic bullshit anyway. In these types of games all everyone does is copy the influencers. It's so boring. You could do 100 duels and only see 15 different cards. I actually made an original deck, without guidelines and a playthrough, because that's what real gamers do. Worst part is that these copy pasters get so fkn arrogant in their wins and begin spamming you with stickets and text bubbles. I literally had to mute èveryone at the start of èvery duel, because you can't block people for some reason.. And even muting is reset when the duel ends. If you duel the same person/bot immediately after, they start the duel unmuted, despite ending their previous one on muted.. It's just everything about this game, it's just so toxic.. Which is really fkn sad because they got a great game on their hands. But if I'm just gonna be pushed back every new season to the cheaters and bots rankings, then f*ck this game. Not worth the stress. Marvel/Disney clearly are desperate for money.

    I would've loved to see how many cards you were actually missing in your collection to really hit the point home, I agree with the tokens being a shit system. Getting 100 tokens at random along with pack fillers feels bad even in pool 3, even if it's only 1000 for a pool 3 card the amount it takes to get there is ridiculous, for 1 loot box every 12 levels, you probably get tokens 1/4 of them, so that's roughly 480 collection level to be able to afford a new card. Given I'll probably unbox a new card or a few along the way but once you run out of cards that cost 1000 tokens that gets worse and worse.

    I agree with most of your points. The biggest issue I have is how much time it takes to get anything interesting. I understand that it’s a business but when I realize how long it would take me to reach lvl 100… I can’t help but thinking do I really want to spend so many hours to have a Avengers logo with slightly different color? The price of the store items are crazy but what turns me off the most if the constant fomo push. If do you play constantly you are going to miss some stuff. That usually makes me stop playing a game not playing it more.

    The fact that you can get variants or basically ''duplicates'' of cards in the cache is criminal. You should have a way of disenchanting those duplicates for tokens.

    Unfortunately, this seems to be par for the course for CCG/TCG's. Making complete collections extortionately expensive (At least with TCG the intent is to trade with people to get the cards you're missing... But then they intentionally print super rare cards that can be worth ridiculous amounts as a result) It always leaves a bad taste in my mouth with digital CCG's in particular. Which also offer a variety of cosmetic options to spend money on (Like alternate card arts, card backs, hero portraits etc) meaning they have another avenue of income besides selling cards. Would be nice to see a digital CCG where getting a complete set of cards is reasonably accessible and the monetisation is focused on cosmetics (I.e. Getting your Golden/Diamond/Alternate/Full Art card variants, your card backs, animations, portraits, boards etc.). So that the gameplay loop is about you know... Having fun playing a card game, playing a variety of decks in a variety of game modes (Things like Pauper, Commander, Archvillan, Draft/Arena, Duels etc) rather than grinding for efficient card pack farming/doing Daily/Weekly/Battlepass progress. I'm sure such a monetization scheme would be viable given the number of whales that WILL buy everything.

At least they solved their mana cheat problems last week.

    I dropped out after reaching over 1,000 collection level. everything started to feel bad about it, especially the 25% chance to get a single stinking card after playing a lot of matches. They got more money out of me than they should have with their slick, crack addiction game, but I haven't touched it again once I quit and left a bad review of it on Steam. Will never go back.

    To be fair, it might not be for monetization purposes. Maybe Marvel Snap just takes an entirely different approach to cards and rarity than Hearthstone does. More of an oldschool kinda thing. Think about it: non-digital card games always had very rare cards and they were very had to get. Like the Blue Eyes White Dragon from Duel Monsters (YuGiOh) or a Charizard from the Pokemon TCG. The only way to get these was to buy lots of expensive boosters with lots of sh*tty content before you finally pulled one. And no one complained about that back then. Even though it was even mostly KIDS spending money on this. Snap might have a similar approach. Some cards might just be intended to be obtained by being extremely lucky. So you get that "I just pulled a Charizard" feeling. But out of "generosity" or to reduce the effect luck has on being a good competitive player, their commonness increases over time (with the Series system) so you're able to obtain them easier than you would a Charizard or something comparable from other games. Of course the downside to this is that the game in higher ranks is mostly reserved to lucky people or rich people. Or those who grind like crazy. For non-digital card games this has always been the case though. If you wait with upgrading cards in your collection (even though you have the boosters and credits available) until series 4 cards drop to series 3 you will be able to easily obtain them. It's not that different from waiting to spend your gold until the new expansion drops in HS. And honestly, when it comes to having a complete collection Hearthstone is also pretty much impossible unless you spend a LOT of freaking money, and with each pack you open, the chance of getting something new/good (especially epic or legendary) decreases to the point where it's kinda really not worth it (if we're being completely honest) unless you're rich. The only upside to HS compared to this is that there's the option to get a SPECIFIC card you want, though honestly the disenchanting system is kinda unfair and inefficient too, especially for F2P players. Disenchant FOUR legendaries to obtain ONE? Seriously? They're not exactly easy to pull from a pack in the first place... It just depends what you expect from a game. Just because they're both virtual card games, Snap still isn't HS, just as much as Linux isn't Windows, even though they're both operating systems. They work in a completely different way. A rare card in HS is still pretty common, a rare card in Snap is actually very rare. 🤷‍♂️ If your ambitions are to be able to get every card released RIGHT AWAY then Snap's system might just not be for you. But it's not necessarily monetization, because as you mentioned, even spending lots and lots of money in Snap isn't guaranteed to give you good cards or the card you want. Just like Charizard in Pokemon cards. You could argue that HS is even more sneaky in this regard, because you can invest a lot of money and it WILL guarantee you a specific card, so you might be more tempted to spend it (buying 20 packs for 25$ will give you about enough dust for ONE measly legendary, but it might be one you need to be competitive in the meta. Will you spend it? Or will you spend an infinite amount of money and not be guaranteed ANYTHING? What seems more appealing/worth it to you?) Also, isn't Snap still kind of in its beta phase? Two things they should definitely do for Snap though is reduce the cost of purchases in-game (it's just way to expensive) and add an at least kind of efficient way to obtain specific cards needed for meta decks. Until that is the case, to be fair, it treats everyone unfairly. The rich people just have lower odds of being treated unfairly with each huge amount of money they throw at a game with mechanics that work like winning the lottery. It's not pay-to-win, it's pay-to-maybe-get-lucky. 😂

    You raise valid points about how long it takes to unlock new cards (really tedious) but the solutions you hint at (just let me buy the new cards) I think would make the game more pay to win. Id still rather have this system than having whales be able to auto buy all the new cards.

    Yea its not exciting when new S5 cards are released. I think after more S5 cards are added, they will make it such that you can get one/two Series 5 card once a month. Many players who are collectors won't be motivated to play if they have all the cards. As a casual f2p, I love the game. I play MS for a few minutes daily and move on to do other stuff/games/work.

    The only thing that's worth it to me is the $10 season pass, you get a card that'll be hard to unlock later on and some extra rewards. Everything else though is bad, the bundles, obtaining series 4/5 cards..... I still enjoy the game enough to play during my work lunch and when I just want to kill a few minutes, but don't see myself putting in money besides the season pass. I've come to terms I'm not going to get to play with those series 4/5 cards.

    I think Marvel Snap is not great for completionists or content creators. Which is weird bc Second Dinner should care about content creators bc they literally advertise their game for free. Not being able to get all the cards for these people is terrible, bc they cant make content with everything they want. On the positive note, it should be more appealing for the casuals and FTP players who dont play that much. Bc if you play a lot, you get a lot of boosters, and way less credits proportionally. The problem is ridiculous with series 4 and 5 and the difficulty of obtaining cards there. The only redemption for that is that they are moving down some cards to series 3, and they will do that at the end of each month i think. But they need to fix the token shop. Its bizzare. And they are not even including tokens in their ridiculous priced bundles!

    Your problem is that you put in so much money at the beginning that now you have the entire pool 3, part of the 4 and some of the 5 and you have no illusions about getting cards, in my case and that of other people who have not paid and do not cry so much with him The game is that we have the illusion of getting cards from pool 3 and continue making new decks and if we get any from pool 4 or 5 with luck, we are happy, when you go up so fast you only look for cards from pool 4 and 5 and yes, they are Difficult to get, but the illusion of pool 3, which is a beautiful experience of getting cards little by little, you didn't live it because you paid a lot and you didn't have time to enjoy it.

    In defence of Marvel Snap, by making the Pool 5 cards so rare most players will only have 1-2 of them. Even hardcore content creators would be lucky to have 3. This implies diversity. I’ve played the game for 3 months and rarely encounter the exact same mirror matchup because everyone has different cards. Contrast this to HS, it feels like 48hours after a nee expansion everyone is playing the same thing. Limitations springs creativity. By reducing the P5 cards people can get, I find people are getting creative. HS is a great game but you verse the same 6 decks over and over again.
