Aha, you are so correct. That was what I was going to say!! It also makes it easier to spot ticks or fleas in between the paws, and just allowing for some extra movement. This is a great option for long-haired cats in particular that grow some extra fur in between their toe beans!❤❤

As a groomer i would suggest just shaving the top layer, dont need to dig in between the beans. It helps the cats/dogs not slipping too much while doing the zoomies therefore less strain on the joints. But each to their own i guess

The hair is there for a reason - it protects the paws from injury and temperature differences (extremes of hot and cold) as the only way to gauge a cats temperature is by the paws and ears probably ok if your cat is indoors all the time. It maybe convienent for you but it will give false info to a vet while examining a cat. We all know how much any animal abhors it's temperature being taken as its via its rectum. Why not try wooden pellets litter as that does not track around the house and turns to sawdust when they pee. If your xat is experiencing the problem of tracking poo in your house maybe you should invest in a bigger litter box for it to use.

​@@karu4115I doubt your dog is out walking on ice or hot metal, so you probably should. It prevents slipping and skidding and it's an easier way of keeping the paws clean: you don't want them grooming themselves and eating all of that gunk stuck in there.

Cats have whiskers on the back of their feet not in between their paw pads 😂😂😂 Whiskers in between their paw pads would be redundant and painful since their paw pads provide them all the sensory information they need and walking on sensitive whiskers all day would be awful. Some cats refuse to eat out of narrow bowls because it puts pressure on their whiskers, you think they'd be okay walking on them all day??? The whiskers on their legs are called carpal whiskers and they're ONLY on the back of leg around the wrist. NOT in between the paw pads. I would not do it. Maybe if they were getting poo stuck in there, but of all the long haired cats I’ve had it was never an issue!

My cats have long hair under their paws too, I would never trim it. It's a part of them and it's their for a reason. They are very clean cats, I never saw dirt there.

The reason is it protects the paw pads from temperatures too high or low it can become necessary to trim the hair if it effects your cats traction it’s the same for dogs

The reason is selective breeding for longer fur, not any natural reason lmao. You don't need to trim it unless if gets matted or they groom excessively(if they're constantly licking their paws the fur their probably bugs them). Don't act like it's there for some higher reason when it's just cuz humans wanted long haired cats lmao

As much as I love grinch feet, one of my friend's cats just goes slipping all over the floor with them, so shaving them improves their maneuverability massively if theres no carpets

As long as you're not shaving in-between the beans like in this video. Cats have whiskers in this area so cutting it can be harmful. However, shaving across the paw pad and not in it can have benefits, especially the benefit you have described.

@@eleanorcooke7136 i don't normally comment on these things but i just wanted to let you know you're actually talking about "carpal whiskers" which are actually located on the back of cat's forelegs. cats don't have whiskers on their paw pads or between their toe beans, and it is completely fine to shave between the toes.

My cat would love this since she is so fluffy!

She probably would hate it. Cats' paws are extremely sensitive and it is completely unnecessary to shave in-between toe beans. They have whiskers in those gaps. However, if you have a long haired cat, it is okay to shave things that stick out of the paw pad, but nothing in it. Also, be careful with clippers because the skin on cats is very fragile and you may accidentally cut the feet. Never trim it if the cat is not an inside cat or there are harsh temperatures because the paw fluff protects from hot and cold.

Right! They're bred to be outdoors and their 2 layers of fur keep them warm and the foot fur is to protect their feet from the cold and heat.

I love the cute cat but hate this channel. Most of the products the recommend are either entirely unnecessary or potentially harmful to the cat. This is one of them. Cats have whiskers in-between their toe beans and cutting those will cause the cat distress because they are the same as the whiskers on their faces.

Where do I begin with this… Just like the whiskers on their face, Cats Have whiskers in their fur, that is between the pads of their feet. It’s essential for them, so they can detect things that are happening around them. (even for indoor kitties) The fur also protects them from hot and cold on the floor or ground. It’s like having slippers on, to protect their paw pads. I can see this beautiful kitty, is very well taken care of, so I’m not in any way trying to make this fur mommy look bad.

DISCLAIMER: cats do not have whiskers in between their toes, they do however have whiskers pretty close to their toe beans(on their wrists - known as carpal). But not anywhere that the hairs were trimmed in this video. It makes it perfectly safe and harmless, part of grooming is trimming the fur between their little toe beans. Tho the other topics are correct.

@@comradedyatlov4143 cats and other animals have the metabolic abilities to deal with that stuff. They vomit up hair (mine haven’t done that since I’m brushing them regularly) but their bodies are perfectly build for that. Haven’t seen a lion in the wild go to a cat groomer to get their fur washed

Try and think of them like your own finger nails, you can sense the pressure of something touching it, but cannot actually feel with it as it isn't living tissue, only attached to living tissue. Trimming the hair around the cat's paws shouldn't cause pain unless you're pulling the fur and whiskers out, cutting too close to the skin or letting it become ingrown if it had been cut incorrectly previously

I used to do mine. he won’t let me too much anymore and he’s a super long hair. He Tokyo drifts around the house all day and night.

Well the fur around their paws itches their paw pads I know cause my cats fur around their pad itches them and they keep licking them to get them to stop itching and I go and rubbed their paws for me whenever they come up to me.

Licking doesn’t mean it itches them, cats naturally lick themselves to clean off. If they are biting there paws to stop the itching I’d be worried, but licking paws is fine.

The purring is so cute.

The paw hair is actually there for a reason - It makes walking quiet, keeps the paws warm, protects it from wood chips.

When you trim the cat paws here the cat goas in to stress

the fur is thete for a reason, it protects there feet when theyre outside and when theyre climbing. animals arent toys, theyre wild animals.
