As a fellow owner of an aged American built, V8 powered, rear wheel drive luxury sled, I can attest to unique feeling of driving something like this. Something a Camry, or a Civic will never be able to replicate. A piece of living, breathing American history, with a personality, and character. Your video paints of an excellent picture of what this country once was, could achieve, and probably never will again. Farewell to American decadence. Fortunately, we still have our 2+ ton mementos of a time gone by.

They used to say that Japanese cars were built better. Yet, there are quite a few classic GM, Ford, and Chrysler cars still running these days, if only during the Summer. How many 1977 Honda Civics do you see on the road today? I haven't seen one in years. I'm not going to expect my Toyota Corolla to last forever.

I just bought a 1986 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham. Put a little love into it and now she purrs like a walrus. Owner was gonna scrap it but decided to see if he could sell it first. I offered 1k, he agreed thankfully. My town is one that was affected by GM sending jobs elsewhere for cheap labor. I'll keep this baby running until the wheels fall off in remembrance of the families that lost everything here. Reading the name of my town on the labels under the hood, I've never been so proud to think of its history and who might have had a hand in making this great machine.

Im the owner of a full size V8 rear wheel drive sedan, i own a 2004 Mercury Grand Marquis LS. I love those cars and have owned my fair share of the big Fords, sadly as in the Cadillac's case, the Mercury Grand Marquis saw the same fate as well as the Mercury name. On January 4th 2011, the last Mercury as well as the last Grand Marquis rolled off the St Thomas Ontario Plant assembly line. I dont care what people say, i love my Big Mercury and now they have more nostalgic, i still see soo many of the Mercury Grand Marquis on the road, many older than mine. I love the room, comfort, safety, they glide over the road, you actually have true 6 passenger seating and a huge trunk, also they get good mileage for their size, i have gotten 20 in the city and 28 on the highway. Im in the process of buying another Grand Marquis and maybe a Lincoln Town car. I love the 4.6 liter V8, you can actually work on these cars, and parts dont cost a fortune and they are easier to obtain, unlike the foreign cars. We laugh at the Prius and call them, the car powered by hamsters.

I also like the older cars better. I bought a 2009 cobalt new and even though the gas mileage is great, everything else sucks ass! Oh Dear God! I swear you can feel it run over an ant since the ride is so stiff and uncomfortable. The seats are also very uncomfortable as well and that contributed to my back problems. I bought a 1986 Pontiac Grand Prix in January and have never looked back. Sure, it's rusty and the headliner sags, but it is so much more comfortable and rides smoother too. My back also doesn't hurt as much either. I think it's just plain ignorance that makes people think it's wrong to like an older car over a newer car.

I have a 1992 Roadmaster wagon. Last of the true American station wagons. I think i will keep it forever, i have already fixed lots of rust. The 350 has 204,000 miles on it. Nothing made today can compare to it, especially since i tastefully modified it. Inside and out, the car oozes Americana, but with a twist! I installed springs 3x stiffer up front, and a third stiffer in the rear, then threw on a crown vic P71 rear swaybar. This land yacht actually loves going around corners! I converted it to a manual transmission, so it is fun to drive. Yet, the classic big car feel is still there, just tighter and more composed. My goal Is to have this car be reminiscent of a BMW....if one that size was ever built ( i guess it would be a "TEN" series? Lol..

My caddilac sixty special 1993. Just did the first tune up at 181,050 miles every plug, wire, cap and rotor taken off and replaced had gm factory date stamped March 4, 1993. Replaced with a/c Delco components all the way. Performs like new. Had a Honda once that was a money pit to maintain. I remember the civic I parted with was always breaking down after 100,000 miles and it had no spirit cause the Honda civic didn't mind to break down while on the road. This cadillac at 181,050 miles was first time it wouldn't start and it did it at home, these cars have a dignified character breakdowns are rare and they won't do it somewhere like side of road or in public they don't want to cause a seen. Sixty special was getting 33mpg city and 53 mpg highway before the tune up. I'm not gonna be surprised to get 40ish city mpg and surround 60mpg highway after first tune up. But the 307 V8 in this car that weighs over 3 tons was already using less fuel than the civics Honda 4 cylinder engine.

Why? It's a Toyota AND it's a Prius! Enough said! I drive a '94 Lincoln Mark VII and will never fall for owning some Asian import. You could spend $30,000 on a Prius or a couple thousand on a much nicer, older luxury car in which you will never spend that $20,000 saved on more gas or repairs. Therefore on paper it actually makes sense to own an older car, at least from a financial perspective.

+VinylToVideo … I've explained that perspective to people, and either they just can't wrap their heads around it, or it hits them like a fresh concept. It's basic math really, but so many people have been hypnotized and conditioned towards buying into the "brand new shiny car with great mileage and low interest rate" racket they need a serious kick in the pants to get out of it… The irony is, the manufacturing of one Prius impacts the environment more than your '94 Mark VIII will in ten years of driving.

My first car was an 83 Sedan Deville with the same body style. Only the power antenna worked flawlessly on it and if you turned at over 10 mph with less than 1/4 tank of gas in it the engine would stall. I loved it though; it was a couch on wheels to drive. I hate how every car maker has tried to make their cars sporty; even the domestic luxury brands. A large V8 luxury sedan should be about floating on a cloud isolated from the road ride. The power steering was so over assisted you could drive that 2 ton car down the road with a finger guiding it. Something about it spoke of man's dominion over things.

+caseyjonesfan Hi, caseyjonesfan ... 2 quick things .. first of all, you should get way more than 7 - more like 17. I wouldn't strongly replace the spark plugs & wires, & also have the timing adjusted to spec, & the EGR valve replaced. Your mileage will more than double. Also, I'm sorry to tell you this, but your Brougham was not built in Detroit - it was built in Arlington, TX (at least still USA!). The '87 Brougham was the last full-size rear-wheel-drive Cadillac to be built in Detroit (& I have a great one!). Enjoy your '89.

but 50 grand a year for screwing a nut on to a bolt could not last forever. the workers should have seen the handwriting on the wall. i had relatives working at GM back then. they had, in some cases, more withheld in income taxes than what i was making working full time. i would love to support American workers but i can not support people retiring at 48 years old and collecting a pension for 35 or 40 years. i tried many times to get hired at GM. i was passed over for illiterate alcoholics too many times to count because they had the right person "pulling" for them. these workers at this plant should have seen this coming and been totally prepared for it. they certainly had a high enough income to do so. everyone seemed to cry when the local GM plant closed. no one ever cried for me when i was out of work, however. I would love to see good paying manufacturing jobs return to the U.S., but the UAW priced it's members out of the market.

+carryclass Sadly you are correct. The UAW asked to much from the auto makers which resulted in them parting ways doing business in Detroit or in America. The unions were asking for very high demands which was also as a result what we see now. But no matter how bad things were back then, I still love all my older Cadillac's. And I will NOT ever buy any Asian or other foreign car!!!! These older Cadillac's are not coming back and are in my opinion some of the best cars ever to roll out of Detroit!!!

@@starxlr7863 Consider a classic car as being like a horse. The purchase price is by far, the least expensive part of owning one. I don't have a heated garage or elaborate shop, nor can I afford a personal mechanic. And this is why I don't own one. I'm just glad that Toyota is making something affordable for poor people who live in apartments and have no tools, in Mississippi. People like me. But I am happy to see that there are preservationists who actually have the money to keep and properly care for these old classics, just so that I can at least admire them.

As soon as I saw the title of this I thought, "Damn, you don't even NEED a reason." I have a '95 Deville, and I love it because it was pretty much the last decade where Cadillac was purely luxury instead of getting all sporty like they are now. Their shift away from full-on show-offiness and class depresses me. That's not the way it's supposed to be! :'(

The feeling you get behind the wheel of that giant will never exist ever again in a future car, the sense of peace, the comfort as you waft along the road in no particular hurry and why should you be... your in a Brougham. I have used my car to tow a truck out of a ditch in low gear show me a modern luxury car you do that in today.

Been over a year since i traded the second honda civic ive owned for a cadillac SIXTY special deville. Car never has failed to start up and take me wherever i might need to go. Only major repair was rebuilding the transmission, but it would still start up and run up to 40 miles an hour. After the rebuild and some t.l.c 10,000 miles later with 180,000 miles. It goes anywhere. Even cross country. It still has the R12 redridgerant in the compressor and a.c. works extremly well. Im averaging highway milelege in the lower 50,s and city fuel milege 33mpg. Also ive discovered these cars don't force the owners to the mercy of mechanical shops. Mine is making Honda, toyota, nissan, and other Japanese cars not make since on paper. I can drive the speed limit or more and fuel mileage is no concern. The faster i drive it it burns lesser and less fuel. Even at 107mph it uses less fuel than japanane cars. But i could care less about the fuel. I care about its paid for and its the first car that stays out of the shops that ive owned. Not only a car thats paid for but has the liberty of the options to become a slave to the shops or the owner can do everyhing except change tires on it. So i will remove one wheel at a time all the way to a tire shop for new tires and back. Not gonna let an american dream become sabotaged by the pros.

Took 3 weeks to find a new radiator, but the factory radiator and water pump lasted 26 years. But the sixty special did not and has never left me stranded. This car will continue to go no matter the problems. No regrets trading the Honda civic that left me stranded often and was a money pit to keep on the road. And the cadillac continues to make bad weather go away when I drove it. It never rains on this car while driving it. When I get sick of seeing cloudy sky's and bad weather I just open the door turn the golden keys and as soon as I'm up to 58mph I suddenly see blue sky's and sunshine every time

I kept my 94 Chevy Caprice 9C1, although it cost every 3 months $500 to fix something (transmission overhaul = $1800, and it was not good anymore), then when I would have to spend $4K just to keep it going, with only 100K miles on the odo, I gave it away. The Chevy dealer told me not to spend anymore on the car. Still, I miss the car everyday.

That 94 Caprice is very easy and affordable to work on, I know helped maintain many of them. Nothing like a 90s large Chevy sedan, very reliable!
