I stopped buying because I realised never be enough doesn’t matter how many you have

I'm buying lesser and lesser, because of the constant price increases. I remember buying a Hermes Belt + Buckle for around €400 maybe €500. I just saw the new prices..... €800. Yeah... I cannot make myself spend so much money for a belt + buckle. I'm happy that I was in the position to buy beautiful Hermes products at reasonable prices. Now I enjoy what I have and rotate more.

i bought a nice Italian snakesskin used belt for 8 dollars. I would feel uncomfortable wearing a belt with an H on it and it is machine made even if the quality of the leather is excellent.
To really appreciate luxury items you have to love using and enjoying them . In the past there has been SO much focus on the NEXT purchase , to the point where many items get put in a cupboard and never see the light of day . No matter how beautiful a bag or pair of shoes might be , they are meant to be used and enjoyed , and eventually wear out , and THEN be replaced ! That is the WHOLE point ! It's like looking at a beautiful plate of food but never eating it ! ❤

Vintage and second hand luxury jewellery is often half price, I really recommend it.
This makes you more popular, in my mind, because you are showing your authenticity and also it's refreshing for us, as followers and viewers to take a step back and think/Cool off.
I just had the same conversation with my husband. Maybe it’s age or fighting cancer for the 4th time but I’m so bored by over consumption. Buying for the sake of buying is now boring. It needs to be really special or I’m passing.

I haven’t shopped at luxury store in almost a year. I think for those of us who had the money to spend 1. Already bought what we really wanted, 2. Got tired of not being able to buy what we wanted when we wanted it, and 3. Got tired of worrying about quality issues on certain brands and their items. I know I don’t watch unboxing videos anymore these days because unboxing was fun to watch when it had the potential to “influence”. When that urge is gone, unboxing is yet another video of people flaunting their things. With all the financial hardships around us these days, it’s nothing short of insensitive, to a certain point. I mean, people can do what they want, sure, but at the same time, those creators can’t complaint that they aren’t getting views on unboxing videos anymore these days 🤷🏻♀️ Blotchy customer service at these boutiques didn’t help either. The price increases only made things worse for average consumers I feel.

The price increases is very aggressive these days, even food is going up 30 % each item. I made sure to get a few bags before the new price increases because i realized i needed to tap out after this spring. I would never buy a luxury bag again from now on...
i am glad the luxury community is talking morw and more about slowing down consumption. hopefully it will influence people to slow down and these bjg brands wil sit up and take notice that the clients are no longer pushover and stop their ridiculous price hikes and silly games. when less people are willing to put up with these the bags will be more readily available without pre spend. power over to the customers and no longer relationship with SAs. this toxic relationship has to end soon, for too long the customers are brainwashed that they arw offered bags when it is the customers who offer to buy.
It’s a shame that not over consuming has to be a trend in order for people not to feel fomo. I never over consumed but always shopped in regards of quality … with no intention to resale. I have my favorite luxury brands but I’m very selective about what is purchased. Also I buy from designers that are not widely available to everyone.
In a similar boat.. not as madly consuming as I did previously. A major challenge / driver of not over-consuming has been the things I want now are seldom readily available to purchase immediately..
I am a point where I realized I wasn't using some off my bags and wanted to curate my small collection. I don't want anything I don't need. I bought a toy loulou, because I wasn't getting a chanel mini from the boutique, shortly after buying the loulou, the mini came, and even I loved both, I recently let the loulou go. I may add a backpack, which I do need. And I'll close the bag chapter. Also, my absolute favorite bag is the Hermes Evelyne, and I am very happy that's the case, I own two sizes, and I enjoy and use both of them. I admire the Birkin and the Kelly, but I know I wouldn't be able to style them, or better said, they wouldn't fit into my life style.
And I do get it how people say they stopped buying because they have everything they need I’m going to get to that point eventually I was into luxury in my early 20s and now that I’m in my early 40s I can afford it so I’m trying to get everything I wanted and when I do, I’ll be there I like other things like diamonds and jewelry and cars so I like to spread my money out and not just spend it all in one spot❤
Loved the video! I feel we are on the same mindset: buying a lot less and only having forever pieces. Same happened to me with The Row oils, they didn't last for long. But the scent and packaging is beautiful. Please do more vlogs! We love them!
I got a double sens maxi preloved at a complete steal and it’s absolutely gorgeous. The leather is so soft and supple. Mine is in a dark red on one side and a bright red on one side and I find it goes with a lot of different outfits.
I just found your channel and omg you're so smart and you're so right. I agree with your sentiments and I also find I mainly only get joy from items I can use. In fact, when I see something nice sitting in my closet that I don't tend to reach for, it actually makes me feel worse, even if I liked the item a lot.

I am trying to cut down as I have too much. I have some amazing bags in my collection that need “repair” refurbishing so planning to send some out. Thats how I’ll “refresh”
I believe people are waking up slowly but surely, to the greed of luxury brands with their constant & never ending price increases. What makes it worst, is that the workmanship is definitely going downhill. I’ve started looking at brands that are lesser known, but produce products of significant quality at a more reasonable price point.
I agree with you. And we have more savings than ever before, now, I’m just more mindful about what I buy. I wish I was that way before but I wasn’t. And that’s my fault. I still have lux bags I’m happy with what I have.
I am definitely shopping much less and more consciously now. I have a short wishlist for the whole year that I try to stick to and not veer off of unless I fall in love but now the motto is definitely to restore and take care of existing pieces of quality rather than over consuming. Recently I just feel like even the large luxury brands have become fast fashion - I feel like Dior has had like 7 collections already this year (india, mexico, riviera etc etc)… it’s a turn off to me. Now I prefer to buy a few things from Hermes as statements and then quality clothing (doesn’t have to be designer). Great video - thought provoking!
Hi G.! I complete agree with your toughts on consumption, I only buy if something really speaks to me and if it fills a gap in my collection… I agree on the wishlist. I've always done one and reminds me of things to prioritise😉👍🏻I do have and love the Hermès Double Sense bag😍! It was the first purchase in the Hermès boutique of my city and it was August 2016, in Togo leather, 35cm, colour Etoupe and Blue Hydra💙. It is my workhorse, comfortable and capacious, it also withstands rain and still accompanies me today as if it had just come out of the box😍Loved the video😉👍🏻
I’ve been buying secondhand for the last twenty years! Saves me money and is more sustainable.

I would love to know your tips 😍
That coat from the row looks amazing on you!
Im happy for you, that you own all of these lovely items - and I get why you do not feel the need to shop like you used to do. I agree about the wish list - Its a very smart thing to do. I used to Looooove luxury KZreadrs and I watched so many videoes. But it was also VERY toxic... Thats not real life... I thought that I was feeling so bad, perhaps because of jealousy of a lifestyle that wasn't possible for me. But I found out that I just could not relate to them at all. A lot of luxury youtubers has a twisted mindset of consuming. I was actually turned off and unfollowed almost everyone - that has made the algorithm much better,! The older I get, the more conscious I become, thankfully! I want to know the brands, the history, where its made and by who.. Im shopping my own wardrobe, trying not to buy anything this year :-) And man, thats really a cool and creative journey. And lets get real here.. There is an overwhelming amount of influencers who just unbox and promote. Not knowing the product or history. Like you said - Wanting it, because its whats hot and trending on social media. Thats empty calories to me - and wasteful. Have a lovely day :-)

i'm also sure a lot of these influencers who do unboxing will actually return the product after they do the video
I love your thought of luxury shopping. For me buying things because I want to use it. I totally agreed with less buying if you have others stuffs that has not been used and I observed quality are going down but the price keeps going up. You have a very good advice. Your input from old and new stuff doesn't matter if you have it or not , just your thoughts in you view point are what we would like to hear.
Love the chatty video! I'm in the market to buy but uninspired for the past year and a bit. I feel like the bags from all brands have become pretty fast fashion, so I have a hard time getting attached to them and wanting them. By the time it makes it to my wishlist, it's time has passed and I no longer want it.
Loved the video, I don’t buy as much as I use to. You did a great job explaining why you have changed in buying.
I have never had Wish Lists. My only ongoing major luxury expense is books, especially Folio Society books! I do like that reversible Hermes bag, but I am too cheap to pay for it! Thank you for the video!
Hey GPS, I completely agree with you thoughts on consumption. However, I’ve always felt that you were a bit more selective in how you purchased (compared to other creators) and that’s what initially drew me to your channel! I’d be curious to hear your thoughts on how trends play into this mindset - I know you bought your mini Kelly’s before they became very trendy, and I don’t doubt it was a very calculated decision. Would you say the trend right now makes you regret your decision to purchase the mini kelly? I find myself buying into things way after the trend (that way I know I wasn’t interested only because it was trendy) so I’m curious to hear your thoughts on this!
I really enjoyed this video it was measured and thoughtful
Sur La Route is my favorite Vuitton fragrance. Orage is my second favorite. Thanks for another excellent video!
First double sens was clemence on both sides. There is black / Ebene which is lovely.
I love the quality of this video 👌🏼
I feel the same I feel like I have a pretty solid collection now and I dont have a lot I still want. same for tableware, homeware, these items are durable and I would only purchase when I need to not regularly
Ombré Nomade is great - it stays on my skin and clothes and those in “the know” instantly recognise it. For buying, I have created a wish list and don’t really stray. I have also started writing a list of products I have purchased this year (and their prices!) so I can keep a handle on my spending.
I have just asked for a herbag from my SA thanks to your amazing herbag review. Hope it’s not too long a wait 🤞

That background of yours is making me anxious!
Also if you want fragrance that last try Amouge… they make some of the best perfumes out there. They are not inexpensive but worth it especially since they stand out and last long. I don’t buy designer perfume since they all smell pretty much the same.
I agree to buy less but on better items to last my love. 🙏🏼❤️😘😘😘Sandy
Completely agree with your video. I’m definitely NOT buying as much. The price increases are a complete joke (10%,13%,15%) is beyond what inflation actually is at so the excuse of raw materials going up is preposterous.

Just unreasonable in most cases 🫣
Fashionphile has a reversible tote in blues that you might like
The vintage patinated trunks are much more beautiful anyway! If you get one with provenance that might help justify the price
Totally agree dare I say I’m bored lol. I find I only purchase luxury when I travel. So I’ll be in Chicago and LA this summer so I’ll indulge then
Have you tried fragrances from Cartier? I like them, particularly the La Panthere

Luxury-goods shopping? Where I live the supermarkets are having a problem with shoplifting and there's an office building near me and it looks mostly empty; it used to be busy before Covid. Folk are too broke for luxury stuff.
I love how you are fully aware that you’re a part of the row’s cult
I was fortunate enough to have great parents who spoiled me with luxury materials growing up. I was rolling in Versace jeans at 15 driving my dads mercedes at 18 and i’m from the Philippines so we usually had to fly here to the states once a year to Shop. when i started working, totally different story…i got smarter with my spending…while i bought luxury items, I made sure I prioritized buying a house first before indulging in more luxury materials. Now, I’m at house 2 and a cautious lover of Hermes, never overbuying besides i consider the purchases as diversification of assets lol ❤

LVMH stock price is up so that is a sign that people are still paying for luxury brands. I don't buy from LVMH.
keeping up with the joneses...."i honestly don't even know who the joneses are at this point" lol! TRUE!!! and people don't realize that the joneses themselves are in debt trying to keep up with some others joneses.

Appreciate you bringing up this topic! At first I was a bit put off frankly by following a convo on more conscientious luxury consumption with a wish list. But as you went through it, appreciate how self aware you are and the way that you demonstrated for your viewers what a healthy attitude toward luxury consumption looks like. Really good stuff! 👍🏻🙌🏻🫶🏻
