Why I started walking people | Chuck McCarthy | TEDxUCLA

We've all heard of dog walkers. How about People Walkers? Crazy idea? The more you think about, the larger the implications, and the more you may want to throw on some sneakers and take a walk. Chuck McCarthy is a thinker and creator who takes a problem-solving approach to innovation and invention. Chuck is the original People Walker and is the co-founder of People Walker Inc. He has been featured by many media outlets for his theoretical ideas, inventions, and of course, People Walker. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Thank you for this, I to am a walker, I started in 2009 , when I was having many health issues from being overweight.I can tell you that in the beginning I had no idea how great it was going to be.I can’t tell you how many times I have tried to convince people how wonderful it is. I now call myself an outdoorsy, because not a day goes by that don’t wake up with that strong urge, to get up & go outside for my walk , (serenity now ).When Im walking,I am so involved that I don’t even feel my legs moving,I do some thinking but most of the time it’s just breathing , sounds, sights ,nature. I am hooked totally , I love it with my whole being & in 18 months I lost 128lbs.I encourage everyone to go enjoy walking!!! 🧘‍♀️💃🌺🌼🇬🇧🇨🇦M I

You can still start this. I'm sure he can't walk everyone who needs a walk. It's not about getting all the attention and praise for that idea. It's about providing something to the community that is helpful. I see his talk as an invitation to do something that you could do too. His talk just reminded me that I should have done it when I came up with the idea half a year ago. I called the idea walk'n'talk.

We are doing good, so greatful for Christine and Tom’s support. So glad Dan is going to the YMCA, it does wonders for his physique . Hopefully, in some of your walking time, you can also go to an animal shelter and walk a dog - it will make the dog so happy, he/she will get exercise, and being able to interact with humans and go on a leash will make the dog much more adoptable, not to mention the benefits you will get from exercise, interaction with an animal, and knowing you did something selfless (which you already do for your friend's dogs). Thanks!

one the one hand, I have the same opinion. But maybe those learnings bring us back to what is important anyway. When people pay for something, they value it. We somehow behaved that way too. We only focus on the things we are getting or paying money for. Others are often neglected. Maybe, it's all just a part of evolution :)
