Why I started walking people | Chuck McCarthy | TEDxUCLA
We've all heard of dog walkers. How about People Walkers? Crazy idea? The more you think about, the larger the implications, and the more you may want to throw on some sneakers and take a walk. Chuck McCarthy is a thinker and creator who takes a problem-solving approach to innovation and invention. Chuck is the original People Walker and is the co-founder of People Walker Inc. He has been featured by many media outlets for his theoretical ideas, inventions, and of course, People Walker. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Thank you for this, I to am a walker, I started in 2009 , when I was having many health issues from being overweight.I can tell you that in the beginning I had no idea how great it was going to be.I can’t tell you how many times I have tried to convince people how wonderful it is. I now call myself an outdoorsy, because not a day goes by that don’t wake up with that strong urge, to get up & go outside for my walk , (serenity now ).When Im walking,I am so involved that I don’t even feel my legs moving,I do some thinking but most of the time it’s just breathing , sounds, sights ,nature. I am hooked totally , I love it with my whole being & in 18 months I lost 128lbs.I encourage everyone to go enjoy walking!!! 🧘♀️💃🌺🌼🇬🇧🇨🇦M I

This is the first time I’ve watched anything about mental health, and not cried, but smiled the entire time. Thank you...
I work at a Senior Citizen 'wellness' center...the last thing they bother doing is Walk. And you know...I'm going to PUT IT Out There!! I love walking
His genuine kindness is so beautiful. His message is really quite simple " be there for someone", be a friend and you too will be happy.
You seem to have the rare ability to just BE with people, and make time okay. You are a treasure.
It's all about connection in our ever increasingly isolated society 👍
Oh my gosh! I love this guy! I just told my husband the other day that the elderly neighbor seems sad and lonely and that I should ask him to go on my walks with me! Looks like this wasn’t a silly idea after all!

That is true_so many elderly are told by their doctors to walk for personal heart health, but there is no one to walk with if the family is not involved
Man! what a fresh breath of air. This cured my depression I swear
I hate that this feels so profound to so many people (myself included) when it's literally just "community building 101". How have we become so individualist that "go out and talk to people" sounds so revolutionary?
"I ruined my own joke!" Me.... I wanna walk with you
This is life changing. I love a simple idea turning into a global sensation.

WOW....It's amazing that this day, after long time when I was driving everywhere, I just took walk. Don't know why. Came home and this was first video that I saw on my screen. Beautiful speech.
Walking is one of the best medicines existing. Communication must be the other. As a lifetime walker I have to ask myself: why didn't this idea occur to me? Anyway, happy other person was cleverer.

You can still start this. I'm sure he can't walk everyone who needs a walk. It's not about getting all the attention and praise for that idea. It's about providing something to the community that is helpful. I see his talk as an invitation to do something that you could do too. His talk just reminded me that I should have done it when I came up with the idea half a year ago. I called the idea walk'n'talk.

What an amazing guy and what a simple idea. These stories re so important and are just not covered by media anymore. I miss television shows from 10 years ago when the content was inspiring. I got so fed up of the kind of shows that I finally started my own KZread channel a month ago. I hope more and more such people get platform!
facts: The German TV show he mentioned is called "Galileo", ~ 1.5mln people watch it per episode.
That was so inspirational ! LOVED IT
Brilliant. Just brilliant 👍

I started local walk groups for people over 45 30 years ago an still doing it, over 55's now! It's kept me in better health, taught me about all the areas around the places I live, got me new friends and new experiences. Walkers help each other with ideas, repairs and other information, a few laughs, and stress relief!
I offer to do this in my little suburb..Let me try There is a tribal saying that if you speak out your ideas, the stress that causes pain and disease leave you..And thats is the essence of this people walker to let the walked talk
I loved this so much and I'm even more motivated to start a walking club in my community. Thank you for the thought provoking talk, much love from Eswatini, Africa. ❤
During COVID-19 walking is freedom from worrying about the future! ☮️

Very nice 😊, thanks. I take Christine’s little dogs for a walk everyday. Christine said it’s the best thing I can do for her. She’s so busy and it takes a load off her mind knowing they get out for fresh air and exercise. Walks around here are beautiful and entertaining. We walk the beach and down by the harbor. We are doing good, so greatful for Christine and Tom’s support. So glad Dan is going to the YMCA, it does wonders for his physique . Dan keeps me updated on how you’re doing, sounds like you’re doing well. Take care and stay safe and well 💕

Hopefully, in some of your walking time, you can also go to an animal shelter and walk a dog - it will make the dog so happy, he/she will get exercise, and being able to interact with humans and go on a leash will make the dog much more adoptable, not to mention the benefits you will get from exercise, interaction with an animal, and knowing you did something selfless (which you already do for your friend's dogs). Thanks!

Here in KSA had a walking competition that contains people around the world. they walked over 622 miles for 30 days!! Most of them reached safely. A girl has got in coma because of sunburning . And several already quit. Hopefully kind of this competitions spread around the world.
What a novel idea. Let's walk and talk together.

one the one hand, I have the same opinion. But maybe those learnings bring us back to what is important anyway. When people pay for something, they value it. We somehow behaved that way too. We only focus on the things we are getting or paying money for. Others are often neglected. Maybe, it's all just a part of evolution :)
