Why I started praying

In this video I share about my recent relationships with prayer and how it has enhanced my life. I have let go of any ideas of God that have been put on my by outside sources and also let go of the resistance I created to finding my own connection with God. Through the process of opening up to my own self-directed spirituality I have found a developing connection with myself, with my fellow humans, with Life and yes, with God. I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments below. Much love.

I get sad when people blame God for what people have done to religion. Glad you're pushing past what people have done to it and finding what God means to you. I believe keeping God in our lives is super important.

I love that both you and Brittany are sharing more about your experiences with what could be called spirituality (that's for sure what I like to call it these days). I too felt SO much resistance to anything that had to do with religion or spirituality for most of my life (I was a die-hard atheist too), until depression hit me really hard and literally burned away much of my societal programming around this topic. I felt so desperate and alone that I started to rely on a source much greater than me. Sometimes I still have my doubts and rationalisations start to creep in, but then I just remind myself that, in the end it all doesn't really matter. All that matters is what makes my life more joyful and meaningful. And the practices that I've found through spirituality and the community I am finding through it, have most definitely made my life just that, more joyful and meaningful. And I am forever so grateful for that. It gives me a lot of joy to see that you are finding your own way with this and it inspires me to go my own way even more. Thank you so much

You've put into words what I feel and do with prayer. I'm not religious in terms of organised religion but I feel a sense of there being a greater whole and maybe a source or higher power I can speak to, ask of and be grateful for. I don't feel alone in life's challenges. As time passes I realise that this greater thing is open to all and is not reserved for those of particular religions or people who avoid certain behaviours known as sin. And sometimes my prayers are to something wise within myself. As a witch I don't do rules, I am in the flow. X

Wow, funny you just made this video because I identified similarly to you with not believing in god and having resistance to prayer, only to become curious about prayer recently. I found that in some intense moments of my life, parts of me turned to prayer anyway and something felt good about it... Connecting to the core of what I really want and need, as you said. I still don't know what god is either or whether there is one. But I love the idea of reopening myself up to how it might feel to imagine the world differently, drop beliefs for a temporary amount of time, or maybe suspend disbelief if that fits better. So thank you for sharing that.

Wow. I love this so much Conor. I’m having a bit of a existential crisis, and though I have been leaning away from god because I feel confused about religion, I feel the urge to pray and wonder where that comes from. I’ve been denying myself the opportunity to explore because I’m scared to find myself back in the mental gym I was in during religion. It feels good to explore without projecting prior experiences on it. In many ways, this channel (oops I mean your channel with Brittany) has done Gods work in my life by allowing myself to open up sexually and find freedom from old religious ideas there. Thanks for sharing!

It's amazing to hear your story about this topic. I recently had a lot of revelations about it and it is beyond words for me too. I used to be Atheist and i've had a feeling of spirituality for a couple years, not knowing what really to call it. Then a few weeks ago I was in a strange inner state because I'd been working on a deadline for 3 days straight, so I went out in nature and had what can only be described as an awakening. Words cannot represent the truth of how it actually felt but essentially connectedness to the whole of earth/life and infinite love inside myself. I could also see my thoughts and ego for what they were without identifying with them. I felt the real me was formless, no words that could describe it, just consciousness. It was peace, healing and bliss. In my experince it was a very strong feminine energy, which is why it doesn't feel right to me to call it God. So this experience, which faded (or became clouded over?) after a few days, really drilled home the truth and the importance of loving and honoring yourself, practising more self awareness and trusting/accepting life a little more. That way you are not resisting life or suffering through it, you experience yourself as life...!

I’m a Christian, and have actually prayed for you and Brittany that you would turn to God. I encourage you to read the Bible (NIV is my favorite version). Set aside any preconceived thoughts on religion and discover things without external factors. I believe God is real because of a few different reasons. If you look at the intricacies of nature and the human body you will see order and design which indicates a higher power and not some explosion creating everything. Heck the reproductive system couldn’t just form randomly. I’ve also witnessed things as well as many other people that simply cannot be explained by anything other than something bigger than us. I pray daily and I regularly see the results of my prayers. I have done a lot of research and it is easier to believe in God than evolution and the Big Bang Theory (in my opinion) There are many other reasons but I’m going to leave it there :)

I believe that belief creates our reality. So if you are Christian or Muslim or Buddhist then you are going to see proof if you believe strongly about any one thing. Conner and Britney don’t need you to pray for them. But I can see where your coming from and it’s a place of love. But they have so much love in their hearts, and from this video Conner is connecting to god, god has many names and can’t be tied down by only one religion. It’s beautiful that you have a strong faith but when you try to push it on others is when it fails. Share your beliefs but don’t push them on others. If god created everything then god created so many different view points and maybe religions. Maybe they have been tests all along to get us to see that god is in every religion. And you are part of god. Wish you all well. 💜

I also have a lot of resistance to religion. And I also have started praying, not too long ago. I decided to do what a lot of pagans do, where you give thanks to Gods that are a personification of nature. So they are not seperate beings, but nature itself, or aspects of nature. For example the sun or water or trees.

Jesus saved me from a masturbation/pornography/homosexual sex addiction. The masturbation/pornography was for 10+ years and the sex addiction was 6+. I had met with over 100 people during that time. He woke me up so clearly. I had considered myself as "spiritual" before this happened, not having grown up in church or having any immediate family that were Christians. I was kinda just a mix of anything that had to do with "peace" and "love", and I knew there was something more going on. I used to describe things as "The universe" or god" as well. God drew me to Himself in a crystal clear way. One day I woke up with the thought to go to church, which was strange for me. I went, and that night I came home, fell to my knees on my kitchen floor, was crying for 3 hours, and I suddenly knew who God was. The new part was - I suddenly knew who Jesus was, too. It was like I had always thought I knew what was on one side of this wall, but I had no idea until I crossed it. I remember describing to my family that I felt that I had been "completely blind" my entire life, but now I could see. I didn't know until later that these are the lyrics to 'Amazing Grace.' But that is how it felt. I pray that God continue to draw you to Himself. He is a loving Father who cares about His creation, and desires to make us new, heal us, and restore us. And Jesus is that special connector that allows us to be saved, as God is fully perfect, righteous, and just, and we are broken and imperfect. God bless you, brother.

This is a brief explanation for "LIFE": Everything, both visible and invisible, is what most persons call "God". God is One Reality but just as a knife cannot cut itself, God cannot know itself (or at least EXPERIENCE Himself) and so has manifested this phenomenal universe within Himself. Therefore, this world of duality is really just a play of consciousness within Consciousness. Apparently, this phenomenal universe was "created" (within Consciousness) with the initial act (the so-called "Big Bang") and from that first deed, every action that has occurred has been a direct or indirect result of it. Therefore, each of us humans were the result of that initial manifestation. That is the real explanation for "karma" - everything was preordained from the initial spark (or to be more precise, preordained in ETERNITY). Whatever state we currently find ourselves in is the result of two factors alone - our genetic make-up at conception and our present-life conditioning. Because we are temporarily residing within this dualistic universe, we experience both pain and pleasure, BOTH of which can (and usually does) cause us suffering. Suffering and pain are not the same. There are five kinds of suffering: Guilt Blame Pride Worry/Anxiety Attachment to outcomes/Expectations These types of suffering are the result of not properly understanding what was explained above, that life is a series of happenings and NOT caused by the individual living beings. No living creature, including us humans, has individual free-will. There is only the Universal, Divine Will at play, acting through every body. The body/mind is simply a biological machine. So now that you understand life and why we are suffering here in this (supposedly) material universe, you are now able to be liberated from all forms of suffering, RIGHT? WRONG! It is imperative to find an authentic spiritual master to assist you to come to the above realization, by slowly undoing your past conditioning. Even if you follow a competent teacher, you may still not come to a full understanding of life but if you are sincere, humble and dedicated, you will definitely find more peace in your daily life (all of which was DESTINED to occur, of course). Peace! 🙏

Conor there is a reason you have been on such a search with "spirituality" or trying to pray. Please know that religion is man's way of making their own idea of God. There is a God and He loves YOU SO SO much. He made you and has a greater purpose for you than anything you could think of for yourself. You can come to God and ask Him to reveal who He is to you. He is purely good and is love. He is not the "love" that the world shoves down our throats. Yes, He deserves all our praise because He knew we would go astray from Him, but He sent His only son Jesus to come and pay the price for everyone's sin. All you have to do is accept Jesus into your life and repent of your sins to accept that freedom He has given you to be with Him in perfect peace. He gives us this hope of His return. He will come back to take His people home very soon. Please keep reaching out to Him! You are right, we all are spiritual. God is spirit and He breathed His life into us to create us. We are made in His image. When you reach out to God humbly and not of yourself, you do honor Him and He is very pleased with that. Put aside who you think you are and let Him make you into who He originally made you to be. He is the hole that everyone has and when you fill it with Him, the only thing that can fill that hole; you will find fulfillment. Reach out to Christians who can clarify more and read your Bible. I'd suggest the NKJV. I'm so glad you are sharing. I will pray for you and this longing on your heart. I hope to see you with The Lord one day soon as a brother in Christ.

Hello Conor, I hope you see my comment. I don’t intend to come at you with any bias, as I also dislike religion. That being said, I strongly believe that “Minimalism” and TRUE Christianity(not the Christianity that we see today) are very hand in hand. You’re on to something when talking about energy. As a Bible teacher I’ve done my fair share of research on Greek&Hebrew language. And the word “SpiritOfGod” in the Hebrew is “Ruarh”-which means, you guessed it, energy. Basically, in Hebrew “wind” = Ruarh. Also “breath/air” = Ruarh. I will disagree that we are all “gods”, though. We are not all gods. However, we are all created from this one Being. According to Genesis, God created Humans “in His own Image.” For the sake of the comment section I will stop. However, I hope you see this. Maybe we can continue talking about this. Have a good day, sir.

There is great danger in trying to define God in a way that feels comfortable to you, as God is not our genie and there to grant our wishes. He is who He is, regardless of what we want Him to be. And we are certainly not God. Unless you can even create a true blade of grass I am forever unimpressed by your grandiose notion of being godlike. This is the greatest delusion that had its beginnings in the garden of Eden. Literally the oldest lie of all time. God is an unpopular concept to many because they want to be their own gods, to do their own thing and not to be accountable or under any laws or regulations. In our culture we are conditioned to believe that we can do exactly as we want and what "feels good" to us. Jesus Christ died and suffered for our sin. He humbled Himself to the point of dying a gruesome death for us - He didn't do what "felt good" to Him. He suffered horrifically in sacrifice. To truly know God involves seeking Him, not fitting Him into our little paradigms that feel good. The bible says: "There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death" (Proverbs 14:12) The one and only true God is very clear in His expectations for living. God is all loving and merciful, but He is not to be mocked. He is a loving, beautiful Father who wants relationship with His children, but as His word says: "if you love Me, you will obey My commands". Very unpopular with modern society, but if you choose to truly seek Him, you will find Him and be in awe of who He really is and how He operates. He is the most unexpected God imaginable. And you will never look back. There is no true, long-lasting fulfilment and meaning without God.
