Why I Returned the Tonex 1 for a Line 6 Pod Express.

Музыка

Hi folks. I made this video to help you decide on which of these solutions is best for you. There aren't any sound sample comparisons since there are plenty of videos on that already as well as demos. These are just my thoughts on the products. Thanks for watching. Cheers

For a small and cheap yet sturdy multi-effects unit, I'd suggest looking into Zoom MS-50G+. I just got the MS-60B+ which is the bass version, and it's _much_ better (and cheaper) than the POD Express Bass. Metal build, more practical to operate with its screen and endlessly turning knobs, and much more flexible with a freely configurable signal chain with up to 6 effects in any order. You can run it in patch mode to switch between different combinations of effects, and in stomp box mode to toggle certain effects in the chain. I think the guitar version doesn't have IR amp models built-in, but there will be an IR-focused companion pedal very soon. The bass version has 8 really nice IR-enabled amp models already.

Tonex seems to be best if you have two amp sounds you want, then set up and leave. If you want to experiment with different ones, it's easier to just use the software with an interface and leave the pedal on the board.

SHOCKING Fender puts out something like that with all the tech available. Looking forward to more on this unit. GOOD comparison.

I would not be worried about the plastic case.

I recently got the Tonex One because I am an old dog that is not very tech savvy and have always turned the other way with the digital stuff because all of the menu diving and computer stuff because I’m not good with it. The initial promos I saw for this pedal seemed like it would be relatively simple for not a whole lot of money, so I took a chance. But I can’t even get the freakin software loaded on my computer.

No one talks about hard the software is to use on the Tonex ..

Technically you can't create sounds from scratch on either one. Each one allows you to go to a preset and modify that preset with EQ Etc but neither one really allows you to make one from scratch. Presets on tonex can be swapped out whereas presets from the Pod are fixed

Hey man I’m in the same position trying to decide between the two at this VERY moment lol. One question I have for you... Did the Tonex One Software give you any problems loading or operating? I’ve heard there were some problems. Also my Windows laptop doesn’t have USB C ports but I’ve been told I can use a USB C to USB adapter and it’ll work fine? I appreciate any advise you could give.

Hi Bob. I didn't have any problems with the software. It loaded fine. It was a bit of a learning curve to use it though.

I have been thinking about getting the ToneX, Boss IR, or Line 6 Helix Stomp,TC Electronic, Universal Audio Amp Sim pedals etc ... but didn't know what is the good one to get. 👍👍👍

-Pod Express or HX Stomp if you want best value for money and you use/want a variety of amps and effects, ESPECIALLY effects -Tonex if you like the idea of amp "captures" better than amp "models", and ONLY if you can't afford a kemper product, and ONLY if you don't care about a variety of effects (don't get tonex one unless you already have a full size tonex) -UA Amp sim pedal if you just want one amazing perfect sounding amp thing, and you know which one you want (for instance, if you know you're a vox guy, get a Ruby, etc.) -Boss IR-2 if and only if you just love Boss stuff, especially the Boss pedal form factor -I don't know anything about TC Electronic

The software for the tonex is a convoluted overcomplicated mess. It's the only negative aspect, but it's a large investment of time and effort. I'm keeping my tonex one, but I am definitely NOT enjoying the process of learning to use it.
