Great video, I really appreciate hearing about your experience being a CO. I'm actually in a similar boat right now with myself here. I've been out of the academy for a month now. And I think about quitting weekly. It's a good job but I don't think the academy does enough to actually prepare CO's for the day to day, they only really prepare for the worst case scenarios imo. I really want to try to hit my one year mark and give it fair chance but we'll see.

Hey man I really appreciate you even taking the time to watch my video. It really means so much. I just wanna let you know I’m super proud of you ether way no matter what you decide to do. Just remember life is short and even if you don’t hit your one year mark it’s totally okay. The fact that your even trying goes a long way. Good luck brother

I graduated the academy a month ago. And right now I can say is that the pay is decent but the routine is getting old and boring now. I drive an hour and some Change everyday and it’s getting annoying.

I just found your video, appreciate seeing this video... Quick question maybe you might have advice on this situation I'm dealing with. I currently work juvenile corrections in California I won't say which county let's just say they don't allow us any protection whatsoever basically just a pair of handcuffs and verbal judo.. many of my classmates and other new graduates within the past six months have left his profession. I give it my best I don't know what else to do since I've been injured due to an assault, I think it's time for me to move on to another department.. My question is do you think human resources or management would be understanding if one was to leave without wanting to come back due to feeling their safety has been compromised and the environment is not safe. Is given a two-week notice even necessary when you informed them of your decision and don't even plan on coming back to finish those two weeks?? Thanks again for the video it helped me a lot watching.

Thanks for watching! If you really wanna stay in corrections I would give a two week notice. It looks better for you and your resume. If your trying to get out of corrections completely like I did I would just be honest and quit on the spot and return your uniform. If you don’t feel safe I would 10000% leave. Your safety and happiness always comes first. Hope this helps brother good luck

@@thomasgamba9252 Update bro..... I just put in my 2 weeks and luckily since the department is in a severe staffing crisis, they gave me and a few others new graduates a one year window to return pending new backgrounds process... at least it gives a job option if other things don't work out... again your video helped me a lot with my situation 👍🙏

i'm assuming you got in before they made it mandatory to pay them back for training academy if you quit unless you put in 2yrs with them you will owe roughly 5.5k on training academy costs or do 2yrs and you owe them nothing) I haven't done academy yet but I did work about 6 days on compound so far did locker searches, like 3-4 counts per shift, coolers, yard, control room, security checks, staff pat downs, logs, chow hall, fence checks, honestly most of my coworkers are dope people aside from the 5% of people who got real issues. It's alpha, bravo, charlie out here too in florida on the dorms too. I personally hate culinary more than chow time tbh just cause if you manage the inmates who do cooking and it's hot asf in there like an oven. I'm seriously thinking about transitioning to a male prison after 2yrs tho just cause I don't wanna catch any false prea charges and have it impact my career in corrections moving forward
