I tried a 48-hour experiment of using Edge instead of Chrome as my primary browser and have not gone back to Chrome since then. Six months in and I am still on it. The performance upgrades are serious. RAM and CPU usage is down and the battery gets a real boost. The best part is the browser history, extensions all remained the same.

Your first point is actually what concerns me most about the egde browser: Privacy. I just think that Edge is not doing the best job for protecting my data and I also dont trust Microsoft to not use my Data, because they already did in other cases where said they wouldnt. All of the features you pointed out are available on other browsers with add-ons, so the only thing that could disturb me is privacy and this is the main reason im using firefox instead of one of the chromium derivates.

If you have the Dev version of Edge, which I highly recommend, right-clicking a web-page will bring up all of the options/shortcuts. You can even Cast any page to a device! Lastly, another one of my favorite things about Edge, the Options/Settings. They allow you to really customize the browser, how it searches, what can track you, themes and more. You can even sign into Edge with your regular Microsoft profile and your school/work profile (for 365) and the browser will auto switch profiles to match the page. Love Edge Dev and Windows 11!

MS Edge starts off looking clean and cool - just like Chrome, but Edge has inherited is founder's desire to control everyone in the world. After trying it on and off alongside Chrome for a few months and being reasonably pleased, following the last update, 111.0.1661.41, I am utterly infuriated by MS's constant and irremovable insistence that I must have it's flashing and visually disturbing MSN news feed on every new tab I open - either that or I can't have the new tab 'speed dial' links displayed. Yes I've tried following every piece of help I can find on the web - I simply don't get the options when I choose a custom page layout. This is driving me crazy - just like almost every release of almost every other piece of MS software I've ever used.

Compare that to Edge, which when MSFT gathers data, it is for cross-program personalization/flow. So you can work in Word etc., open edge and your homepage or the extension will show you the documents you were last working on. Again, with MSFT it’s all a choice, you can turn it all on (no tracking) or off (super tracking).

On Android your battery will last twice as long if you reinstall it with an AOSP-base ROM like Lineage OS but don't install the Google Apps. The Google Services layer installed by GApps (that you cannot uninstall once it on, you have to rebuild from scratch) is the main application constantly phoning home to Google and stealing all of your data - that is one of biggest causes of battery drain. Windows 10 is not allowed in my home - it has far too much telemety and it's entire interface is rubbish anyway.

Not much of a Windows guy, so your articles are a great help me. Thanks a lot for that. Ok, I rather cut to the chase: 1. There is a documented study done few months ago for data mining behavior by Chrome, Edge and Duck Duck Go. They found out Edge is second to Duck Duck Go and Chrome being the lowest of the three. 2. Referring to another of your article about restart and power off (assuming warm kernel option chosen from Windows power options), in restart if the micro kernel needs to be flushed off only then related services/libraries will need to be killed/flushed. It is highly unlikely to flush the microkernel for unrelated services or libraries. Why bother flushing unaffected segment of memory?

Microsoft Edge has improved a lot since they switched to the Chromium engine. It may use the same engine as Chrome but Microsoft made sure it isn't just a Chrome reskin, adding a lot of useful features that Chrome doesn't have. While I am not too keen on vertical tabs myself, I see why some people could find them really useful. Also, Chrome has an annoying feature where muting one tab mutes all tabs which are connected to the same site. For example, if you have multiple livestreams open and want to leave some running in the background while you watch one of them, you can't mute all of the tabs except one because all the tabs are connected to the same site (KZread, Twitch or whatever) and muting one of the tabs mutes all of the tabs. Firefox deals with muted tabs in a much more logical and less frustrating way, allowing you to mute a single tab even if multiple tabs are connected to the same site. Although it is based on Chromium, Edge opts to follow Firefox's more logical way of doing things which is much better. However, Firefox is still my favourite browser. Chrome and Edge both lack a menu bar, Firefox is unquestionably more private than both of them with built in tracking protection which is turned on by default, and Firefox is the only browser with a somewhat significant browser share that doesn't use the Chromium engine. If Firefox dies, Google will basically have a monopoly on browser engines (except for on Mac where people can use Safari.) This is bad for everyone, no matter what browser they use, because a lack of competition means Google don't need to keep adding new features and making Chromium based browsers faster. After all, there would literally be no popular alternative to them. Firefox has made some questionable design changes recently, and I hate the new look. But it still has a bunch of features which imo put it ahead of the competition. If Firefox dies, due to web developers no longer supporting it or Mozilla running out of funding and developers leaving, I might consider using Edge rather than Chrome. This is actually a very real possibility in the next few years, with Firefox's decreasing share of the market and reliance on Google paying Mozilla to make them the default browser. Microsoft would have to win my trust back first. I currently don't trust Microsoft Edge with my bookmarks. A few years ago, before Edge switched to Chromium, I imported my bookmarks and tried it out for a bit. After a few days, Edge forgot some of my bookmarks for some reason. I know it's using a different engine now but I still don't trust Edge. Also, the current UI for Edge is really ugly imo. Although perhaps they will change Edge's UI on Windows 10 alongside the changes they have planned for its UI on Windows 11.

Edge is better in terms of speed and ram. The moment I used Chrome (before I uninstalled it), I could hear the pc or laptop fan working hard to function. Other thing is if you're a Office 365 user, then you surely would enjoy the integration of Edge along with its peer apps. You can add stuffs to your one note. I only wish that MS gives an option for using the address bar along with Cortana. If the apps on all platforms have this feature, then the Office 365 users can enjoy a seemless ecosystem. I cannot add tasks on To Do using the Google Assistant, but if this comes out, I'll disable Google Assistant completely.

Leila Gharani, thanks for the Edge review. I have enjoyed a few of your videos on Excel, One Note, and PowerPoint. Being a Mac user, Edge version for Mac is horrible. Our IT department at my company suggest not to use Edge on our Windows machines out of the many browsers we can use on our PCs (Chrome, Safari, and Firefox). When it comes to speed test, my preferred default browser, of course, Safari on the M1 Mac easily best Chrome and Edge. I understand optimization of hardware and OS plays a big factor. I also think the verdict is still out when it comes to Edge on privacy and security vulnerabilities. However, Edge is finally catching up to Chrome In the extension department, like other Microsoft products becoming too over-bloated with excellent features but rarely used. I think you were 100% correct; Chrome will continue to dominate. Keep up The very helpful and excellent thorough reviews.

Agreed with Collections. Convinced me to stick with Edge.

This! I heavily use collections for research. Also, edge has never crashed despite so many tabs on. Will never go back to chrome

Why the heck does this video have 1.6k dislikes? Even if you are a Chrome fanboy this is just a very informative video...

I love your videos/instruction; thank you for posting them! I like using Edge, but I like the way Chrome is tightly integrated with GMail and Google Drive.

Edge is better when you have good gpu power but for macs, Safari maybe is better optimized.

I agree, but it's not as good as Chromium based browsers for frontend dev imo

Thanks Leilah! Nice video! I've long switched to Edge and Brave as my main browsers. I've stopped Chrome apart from my Chromebook obviously.
