No, the fire extinguishers were part of his skydiving redundant system. If he has issues with the chute, he turns on both fire extinguishers, and in theory, he should land like a SpaceX rocket or Iron Man.

I thought the same. Pull the pins and point it to the clouds a-la Fat Albert doing JATO. If the extinguishers were recently inspected, it COULD be enough altitude gain to make it to that perfect riverbed landing spot under a good canopy. This does bring up an important point however. What if the extinguishers WERE’NT inspected?? Is this another fine for Trevor? Maybe fire marshal involved??

@@MrJdsenior Don't forget if he tried to claim insurance on that plane, probably additional fines and jail time for that. He isn't a bigtime youtuber so I double he planned to crash a plane and expect the revenue from ads and ridge wallet to cover the cost.

Unfortunately Trevor is not alone, and the flying community generally does not report asshole pilots, it's a good'ol boys club, most crashes by far are small planes and they are mostly caused by guys flying by testosterone instead of training, rules and intelligence and over the past few years small plane crashes have increased big time. Most of these people fly under the radar, they are not under FAA towers, no one is policing them and just like with cars when you let jerks do what they want they will and they will not follow rules and they will crash their cars and their planes.

What i find amusing is that Trevor seems to have not anticipated this level of scrutiny.

I'm just a paraglider pilot, but just watching you having so much fun in this video reminds me how blessed we are to be able to get into the air.

one of the good things to come out of the Trevor situation is my sudden fascination with planes and aviation accounts. Had a pretty bad fear of flying my whole life but the aviation community on youtube gave me a new respect and confidence in planes

That’s so rad. Aviation is incredible and aviationKZreadrs served that same purpose for me a few years ago! When you begin to understand something your fear turns to respect.

I typically fly with a spare engine as well as a parachute. I find that if I'm flying at 10,000' and my engine turns off, as long as I skip my restart checklist I can typically replace the engine. If that fails, then AND ONLY THEN I jump and ditch the plane. That's just what makes me a better safer pilot than the rest of you.

@@clinteranovic8075 I don’t feel it’s just you at all, but most of us have the capability to do this stuff through muscle memory, it’s like texting on your phone, I can write a text without looking at the phone, I’m not saying I text while driving, but I’m struggling to see where he is doing wrong in this flight, he looks like he is in perfect control,and is totally tuned into what he is doing. That’s all i have to say on the matter.

Whenever i take to the skies i generally like to bring a backup plane with my plane. I have fire extinguishers and parachutes like anyone else but i cant tell you how useful it is when a wing comes off to just be able to climb out and up to the backup aircraft. I can carry twice the fuel as well since i have 2 fuel tanks.

I just carry duct tape. Fixes everything, could even make a parachute in a "slowly controlled crash" situation!🤣

The camera that Trevor had mounted behind him in the cockpit is the same one he jumps out with on the selfie stick. It disappears from view before he bails out and people have stills from the original video that prove its the same camera. He put it on the selfie stick to have it ready before the "engine out".

@@NavinJohnson_thethird Once the engine quit he was operating the yoke with that rear camera in his hands, the sequence where we mostly see his jacket. I guess that's what the front camera would show. I'm wondering if he didn't want to use that footage, since it would be very obvious that the rear camera wasn't in it''s place anymore.

A BMW dealer in Madison Wisconsin crashed his plane into the only tree in a huge field while making an unscheduled landing. This was in the early 70's? He took a lot of shite for that. Pretty funny.

Congratulations on beating that cold and your first flight of the year. Recently obtained my tailwheel endorsement in a SeaRey flying off a private air strip. Landing on unimproved surfaces still feels a bit hairy, but seeing footage of good bush flying is both eye-opening and encouraging. Hope this is a better year for everyone.

Trevor's "Crash for Cash" should cost him his PL and award him some quality behind the walls time.

Yep - always one jackass that ruins it for everyone. Watched this exact thing happen up here in MA with dirt bikes and ATV's. Was a handful of guys doing dumb crap for years, the sport exploded in the late 80's into the 90's, and today the sport is pretty much done for up here. Nowhere to ride without trailering hours away. Every time I took my ATV out, the cops would show up somewhere along my route. Sold the ATV and bought a paramotor. Now I know to stay away from houses to avoid the same thing happening to this sport.

I think he was trying to slow the airplane down to ensure it will stall shortly after he jump off to prevent it from gently fly away where he couldn't find it. An other interesting fact is he had two cameras under the left wing pointing to the exact same angle for redundancy, implying he was expecting some sort of damage to them.

@@bradenwoods1111 he announces it at the end of the video. I hadn’t watched all the way yet haha. It’s available directly through parallel 42/orbx right now. Looks like it launched late December, and already has had 2 updates. Their blog posts state it will be in the MSFS shop as soon as it “stabilizes”. So whether that means sales stabilize or fewer tweaks needed, unsure. They even have apparently added some Trent missions to Skypark, their mission-driven mod/addon. Seems legit!

Glider pilots also wear emergency chutes pretty regularly. We're required when in competition due to the risk of a mid-air. Its easier to keep in the airplane and ends up just being a seat cushion that you pack whenever required.

or in the case of some aircraft a whole plane parachute, it's actually a really nice safety feature and I know of three pilots who are alive today because of one.

Your videos are next level. I live vicariously through your flights. So free. Airline flying feels so regimented in comparison - which explains why many of my airline pilot friends have all bought small planes to scoot around in. Great talk on the Trevor issue, what a waste of a nice old plane.

I always fly with a parachute. I am a glider pilot, engine outs are not that much of a concern. Also seats in gliders are actually made for wearing them.

I also am a glider pilot! If we crash every time a rope brakes or an engine quite ,all the gliders would have been gone years ago. Trevor Smart enough , lollollollol I don't think so ! Old habit of mine, looking for a place to land at all times when airborne . For instance I flew out to Catalina island staying high enough to fly all the way back to long beach just in case . I circled over the airport and flew back " fog had formed " did not have time to get stuck on the island.

In Europe it is now the law that we wear parachutes in Gliders... the reason is gliders usually fly in large unorganized groups and we are high risk for mid-airs

Very interesting! I must consider this for a moment. Is it a Euro thing? The greatest risk in soaring would seem to preclude the practicality of a parachute. I'm thinking ridge soaring, you're too close to mother earth for a parachute to help. I'm thinking of a failed tow line. Same issue. I'm thinking of landing, most particularly an off-field emergency. Help this old fireman out. I'm just trying to understand the logic here. Is the possibility of airframe failure the key? I understand the risks, I am puzzled by the mandate. Have there really been that many incidents of collision, say in thermalling, that it makes sense? I love soaring, my father introduced me to it as a lad in the 1970s. My brother loves it as well, we used to ride out to Hemet years ago for soaring.

@@robertborchert932 I Canada we wore parachutes sometimes but in Europe all the time. yes on the ridge you're too low, you need 1000' to bail. I have had rope breaks and I have landed out on X-country many times, both situations are NOT bail out situations, we mainly wear them because we at always at risk of a mid-air collision. I considered bailling out of my glider once, I landed out at an airport and phoned my tow pilot to come and pick me up, he was a baffoon who arrived with a passenger who was also an accident prone idiot, it was dusk and they got lost on the 50km trip home because they went flying formation with some random guy we found... I was considering bailing because it got to night before they found the field and I could barely see. Those two idiots I will never deal with again! Yes that parachutes are 99% because of the risk of mid-air collision, especially when we fly in competitions and yes there have been a lot of mid-air collisions in gliders bother glider on glider and glider getting ran down. I would say they are 1% for aerobatics. They are 0% to avoid landing out! I love soaring too!

I remember the last time you went to OshKosh, Trent. I think it was Hal Stockman that had an engine out and he came over the radio and said, "Well, my engine just quit." No drama, nothing. He just landed the plane, changed the engine and caught up with you guys. Great video!

Great commentary on that TJ escapade/hi jinx. Love seeing the countryside you fly around in during winter.

I am happy that so many AviaTubers have covered this - means that I don't have to watch his channel and give him a view. Ps. - As I rebuild my plane I'm rethinking the idea of strapping fire extinguishers to my legs, probably best to bolt it to the floor between the seats.

If you're Trevor, its job done. We all know him now, even if he loses he wins. He could have started a wildfire or killed someone though, he needs to fess up and take the punishment like a man, not a coward who shreds evidence.

You mean even if he beats the charges he still loses. I'm guessing Trevor is in hiding and probably very depressed by all the unwanted negative publicity. It would be in his best interest to confess and ask for forgiveness but I believe he will not do that until after he is officially charged or somehow exonerated by slipping the FAA a handful of cash. It will be interesting to see how federal authorities handle the situation.

I can totally see a scenario where he pays a fine, loses his license for a bit and apologizes then moves on with more subs and views than ever, people like a fall down/ recovery story, its human nature. I will say with everything I know about the FAA and NTSB which isn't much, I don't think they'll take bribes, unless you mean a fine. They're pretty good from everything I've heard.

@@raymarshall6721 I know a guy that bought a house under a federal loan circumstance changed (marriage job) he let family live in the house after as he moved in with his new wife in her house closer to both jobs. Feds had 7 FBI agents investigating him ended up pleading to falsified federal documents a misdemeanor equivalent.Point is that was honestly a mistake with unknown possible circumstances. Trevor is definitely going to be in court. Lying on federal documents, lying to investigators, evidence tampering feds will probably throw in some conspiracy charges or fraud and probably 10 other charges unknown to the common person.

congrats getting your plane in msfs, thats freakin awesome. i actually JUST jumped back into it yesterday and in vr for the first time. its so much fun compared to 2d. i still havent tried one of the bush planes, i might just do that today

I'm a subscriber of your channel because you mix so many things that I am directly interested and I really appreciate every aspect of what you have built, your many solid accomplishments - from your aircraft to your and design, bold choice of the building process, source materials and operational functionality of your home, strip, hanger and workshop in your beautiful lot with a gorgeous 360-degree view. I watched your first video analysis of Jacob's incident and was in fairly 100% agreement as I recall. I actually think you had taken it easy on Jacob on that first video; however, even though - like you and most of the other aviation content providers - I am not an attorney, but after watching today's second video to follow up on Jacob's behavior and feel it necessary to caution you in only one legal area: Defamation. You said a couple of things that made me cringe because you were speculating - guessing about those details SHOULD have been prefaced with "In my personal opinion", these factors don't add up and altogether present the appearance of a stunt conceived to get more views on Jacob's YT channel, and if insurance is involved, would likely be scrutinized heavily because it looks contrived and intentional - and appearing to be a potential case of insurance fraud. Making it clear these are simply speculations based on limited and heavily edited information by Jacob rather than statements of fact will keep you out of trouble, my brother. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'm a retired former FAA contractor, acting as a program/project manager in the FAA headquarters on multiple contracts and responsible for the engineering, development, testing, acceptance, implementation, scheduling and budgeting up-front and ongoing operational costs and delivery of many of the core automation systems for the ATC modernization 25 years ago. .

Ooh that intro was savage! I thought it was already established by another youtuber it was an NTSB helicopter that was at the crash site for around 3 hours, maybe they were gathering evidence and recovering the plane for examination? In that case it will still be all fairly intact somewhere in a nearby hangar most likely? Re the rear cockpit cam looking forward, look carefully it's on a stick, watch his hands as he exits, the same stick and gopro is in his hand, he took that rear cam out with him when he bailed.

The way you landed while talking makes me think you'd make an excellent instructor haha. Have you ever considered Young Eagles flying? Not instruction but it would be good for a kid looking to get into aviation! Also edit: I always have a massive grin on my face when I see you just having fun. Man what a sick plane! Flying around landing everywhere looked like so much fun now I'm wishing I could afford to go up! I really like that plane!

Unrelated ... but watch your fuel line at 14:22 - big air bubble passing through! Was heading towards the tank, so that's good, but where did it come from? Yeah, many, many red flags on Trevor's vid. Those additional things you found out add even more red flags. I never noticed the extinguishers!! That's kinda big, IMO. That right there tells me he planned this, thinking he'd start a forest fire when the plane crashed. YIKES! Anyway, I REALLY enjoyed this flight!! Man, that looks so fun, flying those trails like you're riding a quad or dirt bike at 100 MPH! I MUST do that some day, lol! Great stuff as always, Trent!

Awesome on the plane for FS2020! I'm a 36 year professional pilot who has currently lost my medical due to health problems. So flightsim is my go-to to satisfy my flying itch for now. Great videos!

Not that I agree with what he did, but you lot are awfully critical of someone who basically pulled his plan off perfectly. Plan, execution, make the internet blow up and anger thousands of aviation Karens. I’d say he’s won this round.

@@defyent I’m not disagreeing with you, I’m sure he did this entirely for the fact it would go viral. He obviously was seeking fame. It just blows my mind that it never occurred to him that, “Maybe this isn’t a good idea after all.”

His plane had wings and was structurally able to fly when the engine stopped. He went from power to glider. He should have tried to land it. I think Trevor gives GA a bad name!

@@markmiranda3364 Heard different estimates, but everyone agrees that he should have had enough glide distance to land at the spots you could see during his descend on 'chute. He obviously didn't really think this fully through, or we wouldn't have seen landing spots in his footage.

You are one of the few people who truly know the feeling!

I know another video I was watching brought up a really good point. When he was pulling and yanking on the yolk, He was probably trying to slow the plane down enough to keep the prop from wind-milling. That plane had no starter, and was hand-start, so he probably didn't want the engine to try to start again. That would otherwise have destroyed his engine out appearance. Just a thought.

There is another kitfox that is very buggy and has been nearly unusable for the past 5 months or so it cost like 10 dollars and I would recommend not buying it. The one Trent has should be around 30 dollars US

I saw something a couple of weeks ago that said Jacob's lawyer had the flight tracks removed from Flightaware, FR24, etc. Not substantiated, as far as I know, but...

I had no idea light aircraft could land on terrain like that at around 15 minutes in. Worth watching this just for that.

That's right Trent!. In an engine out you don't get the prop wash you would with it running. Even at idle your tail is seeing more wind speed than with a dead or wind milling prop. You might also increase your glide with a prop idling but it's not going to be by much (depending on winds). You still want to aim high and hot on approach in either scenario. Thanks!

Love flying the #freedomfox on MSFS2020. Its a great plane! Thank you for putting your time into it.

I saw another video earlier that made a very good observation that I had missed. At the point of the video where Trevor is pumping the yoke back-and-forth, most of us thought he was trying to stop the prop from spinning, but it’s far more likely and if you look real close it seems quite apparent, that he actually had the airplane trimmed forward so that it would dive as soon as he let go of the yoke. If you re-watch his video closely you can see that’s exactly what is going on. He’s kind of fighting to keep it level but as soon as he relieves back pressure on the yoke the nose pushes over fairly aggressively, and in fact the aircraft does dive aggressively as soon as he exits the cockpit. This does make sense if you don’t want the airplane to go too far after you exit. Can’t very well get those GoPro‘s back if the airplane keeps flying for another 6 miles outside of your potential landing range as a sky jumper.

I don't know much about the topic, nor do I really care, but it amazes me that you can just casually cruise around, talk, and even glance toward the camera while flying 20 ft off the ground following a curvy road. I'd be pinching a hole in my seat at that altitude.
