Turn to bible and allow GOD to be your therapist, psychologist and psychiatrist. No man nor women fits to be one. All are sinners and without glory, all are tempted and suffer the same. All are expected to REPENT AND BORN AGAIN, to LIVE HOLY AND GO AND SIN NO MORE. All are weak in the daily fight between their spirit and flesh. All these therapist, psychologist and psychiatrist, this world provides, can do is: to deceive and steal. They deceived you through all these “diagnoses” and they steal your money, through all the pills which you “need”. In short: they poison your mind and your overall health, leaving you with neither one.

So happy for you that you are taking time off for yourself and to travel :) I've been watching your videos since starting my psych journey and have gained so much from them - but what has always impressed me most is your courage in being open about mental health as a psych, I think it's so important and not talked about enough! It's part of the reason I chose to go down the org psych rather than clin psych path this year - it was a tough choice but psych has a way to go in terms of protecting the wellbeing of its own members in what is a really challenging profession. Wishing you a safe, refreshing and awesome travel experience and time away!!

This is the first video I've come across from your channel and I can feel your pain about the burnout. I practice down in the Gong and let me tell you there are days where I want to book a one way ticket and never come back. I was fortunate to get my travelling done in between uni breaks and between jobs. It sounds like a well-deserved sabbatical and you will always be apart of the psych community. Safe Travels Ro.

@@erictuffelmire6826 psychology i in many places considered a part of biology so it is technically a stem course, and even if it is not according to u, some other individual might have a different perspective. Personally for me, when I was going through a rough phase, a psychologist was immensely helpful in coping up with the situational stress and guided me to be a better person, so I don’t think psychology as a degree is bad to study, again it depend on choices.

Hi, what an open, honest and vulnerable video - thanks so much for sharing where you’re currently at 🥰 I discovered your channel just before starting my Hons year, and I’m starting my Clinical Psychology course this year. So, in a way, we’re both beginning something new this year (albeit in a different way to each other). I want to echo others’ sentiment: I hope you keep safe, recharge and maybe find what you’re looking for in Brazil (and if not, that’s okay too) ❤

Dear Ro, I only started watching your videos this evening. I have empathy for you, whilst I don't work in the same industry as you, I was probably about your age when I decided the same fate and quit my job. it was an incredibly hard decision but no regrets from it because the travel opened my mind and allowed me to grow emotionally. I learned a lot about myself and when I returned I picked up where I left things, however in a more clearer and energised manner. If I hadn't made that brave step I don't think I would be where I am at! So, anyway, good luck with your travels! ❤

I left the US to teach English in Vietnam a year ago, I start my job in Japan in a few weeks, I'll probably be there for 2 years. I have no regrets at all so far, I can't even believe how much I learned about the US by living in not-the-US; obviously I've learned a lot about Vietnam too. I've never been to Brazil but just read all the official state department warnings (from multiple countries), Lonely Planet/Fodor's guides, google stuff like "reddit brazil crime", youtube "Brazil crime documentary"/"Brazil documentary", etc... You're in charge of your life and you're allowed to live it the way you want. If you've wanted to go to Brazil for forever then you would likely regret it later in life if you didn't go. Good luck and I hope everything goes great. BTW Anthony Bourdain did an episode or two in Brazil, it might be a fun way to learn about it.

Ro this is such an important video that I'm glad you had the courage to share. Self care is hard for many people, but especially I think for psychologists, who take on so much stress and care for others. You absolutely deserve to take time off and achieve your personal goals and see the world! I hope you do feel encouraged to continue to share content, even just sporadically whilst you are away. As sure as I am that we all enjoy your psychological content, you're still an entertaining and fun person to watch away from that too! I wish you all the best with your travels. Please stay safe, look after yourself and enjoy every moment! Love, a psychology student that has looked up to you for a while now, and still does! Stay safe Ro and happy travels! You should go to Dubai or one of the gulf countries and even Morocco is really nice. I think also consider looking in to spirituality for self-care. I’m a provisional psychologist and a Muslim. Islam keeps me intact, when I pray I hand over any issues I’m facing to God and leave it up to Him. I think it’s hard for psychologists being a care profession but we’re only humans ourselves, we need someone to look after us too. All the best dear 🌸

This is not a message to the video poster, just my thoughts on the profession. Having been a Counselor in several subdisciplines, the work of providing therapy to a patient never burned me out. Most of the issues I've ever had are with paper work and poor management in charge of my position. I guess I learned to take my patient's issues seriously but never take them onto myself. Once I leave the office, I leave everything there. I know that's not easy for most to do, but being able to disconnect made all the difference in the world. However, if emotional labor or compassion fatigue have taken hold, you HAVE to take a break, and it's truly not about you: it's about doing what's best for the patient's. Patient's deserve a therapist who is all the way in and all the way "there" and present at all times. Anything less is adjacent--if not tantamount--to malpractice.

I travelled 6 weeks solo in Mexico as a female a few years ago and everyone was telling me how silly I was to be doing that and how dangerous it is. I had the best time. Finding the right psychologist truly is like dating. It takes a few visits before you understand each other and there has to be some personality compatibility for the therapy to be effective. If you feel like you aren't getting anywhere with your particular psychologist then you should keep looking. Sadly finding the right fit can be an expensive exercise too.

Plus i want to study in NYC and that would give me more opportunities in the journalism field than psychology. I'm glad you can follow your dreams now, and I wish you the best of luck! Regardless, I will be graduating soon, and I really want to ask you some questions as someone with experience in the field. When I apply for jobs as a psychologist in australia, how important is the ranking of my uni for my bachelor's and master's? Also, if I complete a course that is APAC accredited with conditions, how does that affect the journey towards becoming a clinical psychologist? I'm an international student so those things are extra important to me cuz I can't freely change my school or course! I would very much appreciate your answer!

Burnout is completely normal in any career… You have a curious mind… as all psych graduates do… I think most graduates who spends so long trying to achieve status… once that have that status/career… it’s like “What am I missing, what HAVEN’T I done yet… I feel like I’m missing out on travelling..” so… congratulations on this new journey! I’m about to start honours year next year and I KNOW I’m going to be just like you a year or 2 into my career. Life should contain VARIETY… Seek variety.

Wow what a surprise you're coming to my country!!! Besides theft, especially cellphones that may happen, Brazil is incredible. I'm sure that you find lovely people and feel very welcome here. I'll recommend you eat your fruits (sorry but no country has fruits as tasty as yours) and if you drink alcohol taste caipirinha. I hope you have an incredible moment here and create beautiful memories

hello i have a question if you don’t mind answering, i’m 18F and have a strong desire to pursue psychology but i’m also really scared because i just got out of depression and only now am i starting to have hobbies, i’m not good in any of them but since i’m in a gap year, i’m having fun with them, but i am scared that i won’t be able to bring any value to the table, i also have never won any competitions in my life before so my rapport is basically null. i have a dream to get into one of the prestigious ivy league for my masters as an international student, how possible would that be for someone like me?

Great choice! Brazil is an awesome country and fascinating. I visited many different spiritual places and Spiritism and mediumship was an eye-opener, particularly Chico Xavier. Aproveite o Brasil! Enjoy your time off!

Thanks for telling us the truth about this occupation. I quit my job as a medical practitioner last 3 years after 10 years in the field. It was not a easy decision. But in life we all know one thing and that it is too short to dread going to work everyday. Friends I’m not asking you to resign your job, no amount of money can buy happiness you just got to be wise.😊 I found your channel, you’re awesome.

Sounds like you suffered the sunk cost fallacy for a long while until realising you needed to quit! Well done, takes a lot of courage to face up to what you probably realised a long while ago
