Do you still like Riverside over Squadcast? I've heard some say they lost audio from a guest and that makes me nervous. What say you?

Thanks for the helpful video, Ryan. For a long-form interview format, Squadcast has been better for us. There is audio drift with Riverside, like you said, but there is also a sync issue with host and guest after 30 minutes on many of the Riverside shows we did. Even if the wifi is spotty, the host and guest always, always stay in sync on Squadcast. I really miss the features on Riverside, like adjusting audio of the guests and the awesome producer function, but I'm sticking with Squad for now.

I'm hearing a lot of people say they experienced issues with guess audio. Makes me nervous so I'm leaning toward Squadcast.

@@AndreaClintonI have started manually changing the 44.1 kHz to 48 kHz audio prior to recording and I haven’t had audio drift since.

The drift issues and lack of tech support from Riverside are enough for me to consider dropping them. I have scene a few videos who also say they cannot fix the drift problem. Thanks for the video

I got audio drift on all Riverside podcasts. Fixing it may be possible but it adds a huge amount of effort and friction to podcast post production. What concerns me most is that they have had this issue for a long time and it still exists.

The last 3 since making the switch, there has been zero drift. Fingers crossed it continues.

It's odd that you're not getting it. I watched a conversation from one of the podcasters on here and he shared his conversation with Riverside saying he'd never had drift but does now. They apparently said that they could not understand why he hadn't had it doing it the way he was! I might give it another try but it seems it's in the lap of the Gods which is not really what you want, is it?!

Naw. Works “best” on Chrome. All of them - Riverside, SquadCast, etc.

The first couple months with Riverside was great. We jumped right into the Pro Plan. And then it all went downhill. It was like as we started filling our account with weekly shows, it started to bog down and introduce horrendous sync errors. We had to leave them. It started great and ended badly, wrecking more than a few episodes of @OurPodcastShow . Luckily, we had understanding guests, but we looked like such idiots 😅 I hope this does work out better for you.

@@RyanHelmsWe recorded episodes using OBS as a backup and captured all the drop outs and sync issues, left them in, and commented on them as they happened. I hope your streak doesn't break. It's infuriating.

I've had so many glitches too and terrible quality. So embarrassing to ask my guest to do it again. Did you happen to find a better alternative?

I am happy you have found success with Riverside, but I had to leave them. I was with them for over a year and had nothing but issues the whole year. The issues only got worse as the year went on. Missing video from my guest when everything was set right, audio drift, internet garbling on met track, bad customer service who tried to over charge me when I switched from a year to monthly while I figured out where I was going. I know it was the service because I always double record on my Rodecaster pro 2. I have compared tracks and the Rodecaster tracks were clear. After a year of going round and round with them, it was time to go. I liked the interface and how everything was there, but no matter how pretty it is it's useless if what you are paying for does not work.

Who did you go to and how are they working out?

Been using zoom to start out but needing to up the quality a bit and stuck between the 2 of these. Audio drift scares me off Riverside atm as I get it now with the different recording devices I use and as you say it is a pain in the ass to edit!

This is Adobe After Effects but there are different tools

I choose riverside for ease of use quality of service

If im the host with the monthly plan, do my guests also have to own a monthly plan?

Me personally, no. Neither are any of our clients.

I'm researching these now and making a decision this weekend, the reviews of Riverside I've been seeing are saying the audio is so glitchy and it's ruined their podcasts. They say Squadcast is more reliable... I agree about interface but concerned about my billlioniare guests podcasts getting ruined.

Riverside has a much larger user base so statistically you're going to hear more about it -- good and bad. Ive used both and never had an issue losing files on either. Make sure everyone is using Chrome.

August 2023: I can't decide if I prefer Riverside or Zencastr. Both are good.

Considering that this video is now obsolete with descript acquiring squadcast, the pricing being the same and SC having more features, do you still feel the same?

@@RyanHelms I think one thing that is HUGE with squadcast, is the media library. That alone is worth $30 a month. At least for those that have a need for that.

Riverside Audio drift makes quick turnaround untenable. I host a podcast with two hosts. One host kept getting kicked out because of his audio interface and the other had extreme audio drift. This was the first recording on their platform. Glad we made just the one month commitment, as we’ll probably go elsewhere.

Yea, neither are perfect. We haven’t ran into audio drift in ~2 months now on any clients via Riverside.

@@DOFpodcaster We’re going to try out Squadcast and Zencastr. We’re moving to a weekly cadence with our podcast so we should be able to try Squadcast out for a couple episodes with a 14 day trial. I can’t recall if Zencastr provides individual video streams of each guest. That’d be ideal since we’re trying to do a three person split screen, but if not, I might just do some zooming and cropping to get the same effect. We previously used Skype and found it lacking, but I never had audio drift issues. Not only is the recording unusable, we’ll have to pushback our relaunch at least a week.

It’s def not every recording that gets it. My company edits prob 50 episodes a week that are recorded on Riverside. Only a few will have it each month.

@@RyanHelms yeah, just "a few a month" is not acceptable. what are you going to do, call the person you interviewed and say "we have to rerecord it. it probably won't happen again." And why would it happen sometimes and not others? Doesn't make sense. If I'm paying to record podcasts, there should be ZERO audio drift. EVER. I would be ashamed to release a platform that did that even once.

How are you feeling now that Squadcast was squired by Descript?

We use Descript so I'll test it eventually but I havent yet.

Horrendous experiences w/ Riverside!!! I just cancelled my subscription w/ them. Audio drift runs rampant. Also, on more than 1 recording the audio faded in and out and they were unable to recover it (I thought that was the whole point of recording on multiple devices). That's fine when holding a meeting w/ friends, but completely unacceptable when interviewing an Olympic athlete (my guest). The aspect ratio was waaaay off on some of their exports (their excuse was b/c my guest's phone was vertical not horizontal. Really?!?!?! Thanks for ruining my podcast Riverside!!! To be fair, they probably have the most prompt customer service chat. Usually answer within a few minutes. Also I do like the aesthetics of the exports w/ the rounded corners. Now looking at Zencastr. Any thoughts on Zencastr? thanks!

Don't worry. It never happens to Ryan. That should ease all of your frustration. Lol!! I wonder if he gets paid by them. It sure seems like it, since there are so many people complaining about audio drift, but magically, he says it doesn't happen to him. hmmmmm.

Big mistake. Riverside is extremely buggy. I am going to cancel my riverside subscription

@@RyanHelms voice lag, sound distortion, not loading the video where the software kept telling me to refresh. Had to reach out to support to assist. Quality so bad I had to record in a monotone which has done badly on YT in terms of views. And this was just me doing a talking head video. Imagine the mess interviewing a guest online. I love the features but if the software is buggy it does not help
