Scotland is my home and it is truly an amazing place. Scottish food is so much more than deep fried things though. (By the way, a deep fried pizza is called a Pizza Crunch in Glasgow). When you’re here next you have to try our venison and sea food, Scottish tablet, porridge, our berries, square sausage. There’s so much!

I think the pride and friendliness we have in Scotland might be tied together in how we're a very community driven folk, particularly in the smaller towns and villages where everyone seems to know each other. Its almost like everyone in Scotland is part of one big extended family and when people visit we're hosting you in our home.

I'm reminded of the story of a British rock group that toured the USA and then returned to Britain with some US crew that set up their equipment. They set off from London heading to Scotland. They asked the 2 Americans if they had work permits for Scotland. They said no, they only had the one they'd been issued with. They made them hide for 2 hours in the (very small) tour bus toilet so when they wouldn't be found by 'the border guards' as they entered Scotland. To add authenticity, they stopped in a lay-bye on the way and one of the team who was Scottish went round banging doors and asking questions in a loud Scottish accent. They didn't tell them it was all a joke for a week.

The punk band, Stiff little Fingers apparently did this to their support act The Members (of "Sound of the Suburbs" fame), when touring Ireland, claiming that they would be likely to be shot by paramilitaries at the border between Northern Ireland and the Republic, once they realised they were English. Apparently one of the entourage of The Members fell for this and did hide in the luggage compartment! However, sadly this did really happen at least once at the border there, though admittedly it was to an actual Irish band called The Miami Show Band! I suppose it would be easier to convince someone that this might happen in Ireland, in 1979/80, during the middle of the Troubles right enough.

I have a huge close family, who get together regularly for fun times. Australia is lovely, but Scotland is calling me home. Thanks for the great video and passion for Scotland. Scottish chippies are the best, a good fish supper is still my favourite especially when you take it to eat from the paper with amazing views in front of you. My favourite memories are walks in the forest or beach with my Labrador, then home to a real fire and a nice hot strew for dinner. ❤

I live in California, but I first visited Scotland in 1973 for several weeks. I was lucky enough to stay with relatives of a friend of my dad in Edinburgh for about three weeks. It was lovely! I also had a Britrail pass and travelled quite a bit, seeing Inverness, Culloden, Wick, Skye, Glasgow and numerous other towns and villages. The people were all very friendly and made me feel very much welcome. The springtime scenery was drop dead gorgeous. I came back a couple of years later in the fall for a couple of weeks and again in 2003 and visited the Orkney Islands: BEAUTIFUL! And the most fabulous ice cream! Don’t know if I will get another trip in to Europe, but if I do, Scotland tops my list!

Our beautiful countryside and the sense of humour!. Visit Stirling and my own wee county of Clackmannanshire, which is very close to The Trossachs - great history, fantastic Castle, beautiful scenery - you'll get some lovely country walks - all in and around one small(ish) city. I agree, from watching your videos, I've been struck on how many cultural similarities there seem to be. Huge numbers of Scots emigrated to the USA and Canada. You must go to see the Falkirk Wheel and the The Kelpies as well. The Kelpies is an amazing huge sculpture of horse heads, it's specatacular. No one ate deep fried pizza or Mars bars when I was a kid, but now they seem to be popular. I don't understand it. 😆

Many years ago I worked as a barman in a hotel at the top end of Loch Lomond. On my days off, I'd get a bus/coach to the more northern parts of the country. One time I was on a coach coming back and there were two young women talking behind me. I thought they were people from abroad at first, then realised I was picking up words of what they were saying. It transpired they were from the Shetlands, and speaking in their form of English. Amazing. Robert, UK.

In general, once out of London, many places in the UK are friendlier, where it is fairly common for strangers to have a natter or partake in friendly banter, or at the very least say hello. Something completely alien to Londoners. In Scottish cities, Glaswegians tend to be amongst the friendliest, though Edinburgh & Stirling are prettier. Though there is nothing like Highland hospitality, it is fairly common to see hitchhiker's in the Highlands (I've done it myself several times).

We have walked the west highland way, hired a boat and did the Caledonian canal, island hoping, cruised around the Scottish islands, hired a cottage on Harris/Lewis also on Skye etc! We have a fortnight timeshare at Loch Rannoch, in which we took the steam train from Rannoch station one year to Fort William, then up to Mallaig way back in the 90s before it became famous due to Harry Potter lol! We have owned our studio for over 35 years! Never missed a trip! I have umpteen pictures and films footage which is a bit late for me in life to put on You Tube! Yeah Scotland is wonderful! So glad you like our wee bit hill and glen/s! Haste ye back! Scotland is full of little gems that get missed by tourist!

I went to a Scottish university. There was a complete dearth of fresh greens at affordable prices back then, so the only alternative was root vegetables, swede, turnips, potatoes. The combination of a student budget and no greens led to some unusual culinary delights, such as haggis cottage pie and haggis spaghetti bolognese. We used to buy mutton pies from the local bakers at lunchtime, the standard operating procedure for eating them was to gnaw off a corner and let the fat drain out into the bin. Male life expectancy in Glasgow is 73.1 years, unsurprisingly.

It turned out that the pizza I bought was the cheapest pizza anyone could ever find and that's why it was so bad. It took many years before I tried a decent pizza because of that. I watch many of your videos and have found them excellent in the way they try to explain things UK to those across the pond. delighted you are visiting Scotland and introducing others tothe country, enjoy. But please please try to improve your pronunciation of Scottish place names. I have never heard "O ban" pronounced "O barn" likewise Loch ( note the soft ch sound) "Catreen" is actually Loch Kat- rin ( like Kathrine without the h ) . With so many accents and regional dialects in Scotland there are always variations but always ask the locals about how to say it.

I don’t remember it, growing up. I remember deep fried pizza, but not dipped in batter first. Just taken out the packet and thrown into the deep fat fryer.

You say Scots are more like Americans in their friendliness but feels like a blanket generalisation. The truth is from my experience of both Britain and America is these things are regional. The southern English are more reserved, but I found that to be case in New York and Chicago and other northern US areas as well. The northern English are a lot more friendlier then the southerners, almost like another country. Where I live in north Staffordshire people are super friendly...almost like my Irish relatives.

Tatler magazine once voted Scotland the most beautiful country in the world, it did not surprise me one bit. It truly is remarkable in every way and what the Scots invented is beyond belief, the list is jaw dropping. It is without doubt mystically beautiful and mesmerising and the history is incredible. Scottish people are incredibly proud of their heritage and who could blame them, it has so much to offer for being such a tiny country and the food is second to none, having truly world class produce ,it is rich in many ways, , , ,and you can drink beautiful pure clean water straight from the tap. . . .You can't do that in England, unless you fancy a limescale lined tummy.😂

Hospitality to strangers in Scotland is a very old tradition and was taken very seriously. If a stranger knocked on your door in need, it was your duty to take them in and let them warm by the fire, feed them and accommodate them overnight. In fact at the Massacre of Glen Coe, British soldiers collecting taxes were taken in and cared for by the villagers but in the middle of the night the soldiers got up and slaughtered everyone under the age of 70 as they were ordered to do.

the Campbell’s were working on Orders from the Scottish Government the political union of the countries didn’t happen until 1707. Scotland was a very politically divided country at that time and the Highlands and Lowlands did not generally see eye to eye. Hence why after the battle Culloden in 1746 highland life was stamped on hard by the then British forces.
