Why I'll never order a Gibson again!

Музыка

Meaning You should always play any Guitar first before buying it. 2017 Gibson Les Paul Standard T. Bourbon Burst the finish is beautiful thou! Can't wait until they get it right. Third times a charm? Don't get me wrong I'm a Gibson fan all the way ever sense I was a kid dreaming of owning a Gibson Les Paul. That's why it's so disappointing and so far it's been 6 months!! They'll do me right eventually. Please subscribe to my channel. I will be doing a video on the next guitar I get as well. I hope it's the one and for the record I still would by another Gibson.

I've always been a Strat man, but once I ordered a ES 335 from Gibson. It looked great and I was excited to play it. The excitement evaporated quickly when my left hand started to hurt sliding up and down the fret board. They had 'forgotten' to file off the ends of the frets completely, so a small part stuck out. I called Gibson and talked to a rep, who was arrogant and practically called me an idiot and said that their guitars were perfect. Well, the guitar went back for a full refund and they also lost me as a customer for good. This might have been an isolated case, but the rep's behavior was unacceptable. He wouldn't work for me very long!

@@BadEconomyOfficial The guitar center here in Manchester CT SUCKS, they carry jack shit and none of the guitars are even close to setup. Help doesnt help and when they try they are so uninformed about the products in the store (yes even with the limited stock). You have to hire people who at least have some people skills and know something about the product ! Also go thru their used gear... I dare ya ! None of it tested, even if they say it was. Ive seen horror stores. I tried picking up 10 or 12 different guitars and they were all unplayable. In CT we use to have Daddys Junky Music and the people who worked there were easy to talk to and knew their gear and ya got to know them and they knew what you liked and were after etc. Ya gotta remember a lot of musicians work at a guitar store. But these "musicians" that work at the one in Manchester cant even be bothered to do their job. No people skills and it doesnt take much to make me happy but when your seemingly annoying them by even being in the store is crazy shit. Just like Gibson, both companies have had to file for bankruptcy. We need these old mom and pop stores, they may not have had the stock, but they made up for it in other areas. I miss Daddys and after my last GC visit i will honestly NEVER go back and that is the 3rd store ive been to in the CT area that ive walked away actually glad I didnt buy what I went there to buy and just walked out. People like that dont deserve my hard earned money. As i said in my post above were in a day and age where we have access that in the past you didnt have and that is finding some of these $500 guitars that blow away US made products. Go buy that brand instead of a Gibson. Also ive played Chibsons that would out play this guitar, im not kidding. Ive seen some recent Chibs that blew me away after they had been setup and tuners etc but those guitars could be setup and intonated and did stay in tune and had gorgeous tops. I know they are a veneer. $400 after all the new hardware and a good setup on a Chibson is still $2300 less and outplays this guitar. Im not saying to buy a Chibson necessarily but if ya really must have Gibson written on a guitar, save yourself the $2300 and just buy one. Some are POS and some arnt too bad, but thats a $225 gamble before setup and parts and you will know looking at that guitar closely if its even worth doing that work on. Also ive talked to people who got a bad one and sent it back to China and they sent another one that was a really nice guitar. So its almost like you get better warranty work thru china than you do here in the US of fucking A. There is something seriously wrong with this picture. Sorry for the rant but get over the name being on the guitar buy a nice Epiphone, ESP, PRS SE, G&L etc they all make great overseas guitars for peanuts. And for $2700 you can get one hell of a US PRS, G&L, ESP etc. So theres price tiers all over the map to suit anyones needs. Fucking go buy a Fire Fly, at least that guitar can be setup and played. For about $200 !

I got a studio deluxe pro back in 2014 and the finish was literally sticky for almost 2 years after I bought it. When I complained to a Gibson rep on the phone in a completely courteous and respectful way, the ASSHOLE first laughed about it and then he tried to blame it on me. Real good customer service! When I told him that I was still in the return period, he said these exact words: "Go ahead, we don't care. Guitar Center already bought it from us, and we don't take stuff back from GC. It's not our problem if you return it. It's GC's problem, and they'll just sell it to someone else." Nice Gibson... what a damn joke of a company.

What a shame. In 2016, I went looking to buy my first Gibson Les Paul after dreaming about owning one for 45+ years of playing. I found the most gorgeous Les Paul in the store with blue flame finish in 2016. I'm not sure what model it was, but I think it was some sort of Peter Green tribute. The setup on it was not as hideous as yours, but it was bad. Action was very high, binding had a ridge like yours. And this one was priced at over $4k, list price $7k. On the other hand, I found a transparent blue Epiphone Std Pro that looked almost as nice, but played 5 times better. One of the best necks I've ever played in 45+ years. I bought the Epiphone for $599 and I couldn't be happier. The fit and finish are superb, although it's poly instead of nitro, and the Epiphone Probucker pickups aren't quite as sweet sounding as the Gibby's, but damn close. The pickups can easily be changed if I ever choose to, but in the meantime I have an awesome playing guitar that sounds great as it is. No regrets at all, and my prejudice against Chinese made Epiphones is completely erased. Maybe someday I'll buy a Gibson, but that's way low on the priority list. I have the Les Paul I always wanted.

It all comes down to the workers. Mistakes do happen and we all make them and that guitar should have never even been fretted or finished because the issues could have easily been observed even with the naked eye. Machines offer a chance to see precise issues as well. Wait until smoking pot is legal in all states, throw that into the American worker's blood stream along with more psychotic drugs and 3 hangovers per week and what we get, the guys buying the products, is close to junk. It is an unfortunate situation that started in the 70's and is going to be one of the main reasons businesses will soon replace many workers with robots. Your total discontent and complaints with this guitar are legit! I have experienced the same thing with Gibson. I especially do not understand the guitar passing inspection when the treble side of the bridge is bottomed out and the action is way too high! WTF? I had the same exact issue. At its lowest setting the action was still 5/64ths of an inch! I had the same neck binding issues with my ES-137 Custom as well as pathetically sloppy fret marker inlays and a couple of cracks in the finish by the neck joint. I got rid of it and bought $399 Ibanez AF-75 for my Jazz guitar. The build quality is superior to the Gibson at a tenth of the price. Granted the Ibanez has sub-standard electronics and hardware, but it's a beautiful well made guitar that sets up and plays like a dream. I now own 3 of them. One I changed out the pickups and controls, upgraded the tuners to Grovers and put a better quality bridge on it. So for around $800 I have a guitar that blows the Gibson away! Back in the 70's and 80's I had some superb Gibson guitars. That's why I paid the big bucks, for the quality. I will never buy another Gibson with the poor build quality they offer these days. Too bad as that guitar is beautiful. Good luck!

Really sad that such an iconic brand has such low standards. Everyone wants a gibson so they will continue to make low quality and sell for high prices. I just bought an s275 and the guitar doesn't have any major issues but the fit and finish is not so great. I really hope they do something to get this iconic brand back on track.

shabouga This is why I've been recommending agile guitars or PRS. Agiles will still be better than the Gibson although not perfect. But at least for the money you don't feel raped. Picked up a used SE Zachary Meyers with USA pickups and pots, switch and jack for $400 and DAMN! I don't play my USA PRS then the SE and feel, yeah this feels $3200 less expensive. The Gibsons are just....disappointing. I want to try a 339 and see how the Memphis line is doing.

And when I finally got to the store after a 4 hour drive I played it to my Shock was terrible. It was just terrible. I was so disappointed. I really wanted a Gibson. In the end I bought an ESP Eclipse. 1000 x better ! Absolutely beautiful neck and sound. And was around AUS$500-$1000 cheaper!

Brandon D I used to own a brand new Les Paul (made in 2004). About two-and-a-half years after having it I somehow managed to cut a line across one of the frets with the G string. After that, I couldn't really do bends around that fret anymore because (a bit like how this guy is saying with the nibs) the string would get caught in the groove. Is that normal? I've had a Strat now for nearly nine years and I've had no problems with it.

I just bought a 2017 Les Paul standard. The intonation is spot on, the pickups are amazing and the construction and finish are gorgeous. Then again, I didn’t just order a guitar and hope for the best. I played a bunch of LP’s in a few stores over a few weeks and bought the one that was the best all around and had best neck feel for me. No matter the company or the price, I can’t see how anyone could buy a guitar any other way. Gotta play them, they are all unique.

So here's the problem. Some come in great, others at the shop arrive stinkers. The good ones get taken quickly. The stinkers accumulate at the shop. So the more units that come in, the less good are your odds of finding a usable Les Paul among the old crap that won't sell and they won't replace. This is worse when the shop sets aside good ones for themselves and for buddies and preferred clients and online sales.

I got a Gretsch Electromatic for Christmas last year, and at the same time a friend of mine got himself a new Les Paul. I had to file a couple of slightly rough fret ends on my new Gretsch, put my favorite strings on it and boom, perfect. Even through the hot humid Summer gigging with it. The $3000 Les Paul on the other hand.....Truss rod, intonation, action, anything that could be adjusted, needed serious adjustments. After he brought it to me to help him make these adjustments, we plugged it in to be rewarded by some of the worst hum I've ever heard from any guitar old or new. On my advise, he sent it back for a replacement. Sweetwater, great dealer, no problems with them. His new one had all the whacked-out setup issues all over again, but the electronics were reasonably quiet. Wow! I have several expensive domestically made guitars, and love them. But this ongoing (decades) quality control issue Gibson has is going to kill them. That Electromatic I got for Christmas is actually the second perfect $600 Chinese Gretsch that I have gotten, without ever playing either one first. I don't think there's any excuse for these issues with the Gibsons and you shouldn't have to test drive these supposedly premium guitars to find a good one. That my $0.02.

The neck broke WHILE IN THE CASE. I called Gibson, gave SN, date of purchase, etc. They asked me, "Did you send in warranty card?" I didn't because IT WAS A GIBSON! They said, "Sorry, can't help you." Had the neck repaired. 2 weeks ago I took I opened case and discovered the neck was broken again - broke while in it's custom case. I own another cheaper SG, a 79 less paul, and Ibanez, and American Fender Strat. I will never ever by a gibson guitar again. Buyer beware!

That said, the coil splitting on this give me more flex. What did piss me off what when I got it the setup was TERRIBLE so I spent the time to do my own setup (which most of us do to get it to what our personal preference is). It's always the guitars Gibson was making a few years earlier that are the "good ones". 5 years from now you guys will be saying "Gibsons build quality has really gone down....not like the great guitars they were making 5 years ago". It never changes. Whatever Gibson is making now is crap....but the stuff a few years earlier? That's when they were good. Riiiiiiight.

But I am glad this video exists now so I wont make that same mistake buying the next guitar. Question: Do you notice it in just GIBSON guitars or do the other makers do the same thing? Thank you in advance.

Are you serious? Lol playability is a big issue. If strings are catching the fret edge thats a huge issue. For $3000 it better be set up by a luthier perfectly and need only minor player specific adjustments when it gets to my door...also for $3000 and “Gibson” on the head the tuners should not be that blatantly crooked.... He ordered and paid for a Ferrari and Gibson sent him a Miata painted like a Ferrari.

@@rodrossi9749 well between tuners, a new nut, and a setup...i could have had a BEAUTIFUL AIO Wolf LP half paid for... I LOVE my Les Paul but I should not have to spend that much money for a HORRIBLE nut cut job on a cheap nut that should be graphtech or better stock from the factory. Gibson has had YEARS...DECADES to figure out gremlin issues but they refuse to. Instead they make robotuners lololol... If they’d get their stuff together and listen to their customers that actually play these instruments for a paycheck and their needs, then they would once again be THE BEST guitars in the market...until they listen to us players that play multiple shows daily/weekly with these guitars....ill spend my money elsewhere...ill keep my current Les Paul and enjoy it now that ive spent the $400 extra on it to keep it in tune...but ill be buying other brands that are just as good but half the price. If i want to make an upgrade on a Wolf, thats fine. Ill still have less than 3/4 of the price of a Gibson into it for a guitar that plays just as good or better out of the box and sounds just as good.

I've owned 5 Gibson's: three Les Paul Standards and two SG's. One-- a '93 LP was a fine guitar but wouldn't stay in tune. A '66 SG was phenomenal. The others were simply poor quality and overpriced as I had to mod and basically upgrade everything about them to make them borderline decent, doing the work myself. And these were $2500 to $4200 guitars. I played a friend's Agile 3000 and it blew my 2009 LP Standard out of the water. No comparison other than price: he paid $350 for his and I paid $3,500 for mine. I ordered a top of the line Agile 3200 neck through for $500 from Rondo Music, and it was flawless out of the box---- and I play, jam or gig 6 nights a week and have been playing 30 years. Sold the Gibson's and never looked back. Maybe some of their $6000 to $10,000 custom shop guitars are worth it, but good luck if you buy one and you want to actually play it!

I have 3 2014 models and they are all perfect guitars that play beautifully and sound amazing. I bought my LP from Guitar Center Platinum Room and the other two from Sam Ash. The LP was set up already, but I put 10-52s on all my guitars. The others needed to be setup. But that doesn't bother me, I would rather do my own setups regardless. My advice to buyers is don't order from catalogs, these items are human built and it shows sometimes. Whether you can cope with the variables is the whole reason you must see it to spend the big money. Otherwise you become the company dumping ground. Further, they become a reflection of your ability to own and operate a guitar. If you can't determine how to tweak the neck and zero in intonation, you must rely on a tech. In almost every circumstance, buyers expect perfection all around, and that just is not going to be the case... They are unloved strays. You must adopt and care for them to become perfect.

I hate the neck binding on the Gibson Les Pauls due to the string grabbing as you demonstrated. I buy Epiphone Les Pauls and have my local luthier set them up and treat the frets. It ends up costing me a little over $100, but well worth it and I save myself a grand or so.

my question is why did it take six months ? , and they made two attempts to get it right ? , i had a brand new gibson songbird , in 2012 , about two months later the neck warped and the fretboard came unglued ! , took it to a gibson certified luthier , he also saw that the entire back was coming aprt , and the binding was coming unglued... keep in mind my room where all of my guitars are kept is perfectly humidity controlled , and all of them are in cases ! hygrometer is checked weekly ! , well it was sent back to the factory under warranty , it took them three months to mail back a totally new guitar.... that one fell apart where the neck joins the body and again the fretboard came unglued... that was it for me traded it in at GC towards a Les paul Standard , which was pleked ?? nope it was all out of sync , strings way too high , because you couldn't set it any lower , worked all of the issues out myself , ... but now it his bad mojo ! , so i very rarley ever play it... my 2010 SG standard... try and keep it tuned ! , iv'e worked on guitars for a long time , it's not like i don't know what i'm doing... no more Gibsons for me ! , all of my fenders are mint ! , no issues period !

I also owned a 1985 Flying V. All of my Gibsons have been great playing, sounding, and looking guitars. The only issue I have with any of them is on my 2009 Trad. One of the screw holes for the switch cover plate was drilled too close to the cavity. It plays and sounds like butter though.

Here's my rule of thumb. When buying a guitar really any guitar I need to see it, play it and know that it fits my playing style and hand size. Ordering guitars online without ever seeing the guitar is always going to be dangerous. When ordering alway shave it delivered to a music store so it can be inspected and played before you accept it. This way if there is an issue the store is responsible....

(MADE IN THE USA) when will people stop and understand that, Just because something says it was "MADE IN THE USA" doesn't mean that they can hold it as godly... In fact, in this day & generation, most things that are made in the USA are way over priced and are held in high demand. The sad truth about this, is that more and more "quality" made items are made over seas and are only assembled here in the USA... Full premium items that are completely built in the USA are usually junk... Not always, but i'd say a good 60% turns out to be over priced junk. See the reason items that are manufactured in the USA are so over priced is due to the blinding fact that, the average working us citizen get's a minimum wage of $9 dollars and up... In this case, a company will have to pay, that to its employees while charging a premium on their items in order to keep the business at a steady peak. So in reality, when you have over sea employees getting paid $2-5 dollars per hour, it's much more affordable to offer an item at an affordable price... Granted that they also use cheap materials and parts, most of the time. Most USA made items aren't that great in regards to quality... This isn't my opinion, this is statistically speaking. Don't get me wrong, there can be some great quality items made here in the USA, depending on the company. Example, PRS guitars have amazing quality control and build... But the cheap end of a USA made Paul Reed Smith starts in the 3k range... In all I've seen better put together guitars that came from over seas... Parts & electronics are junk for the most part... In your case, that's pure bull shit! I'm sure you paid a premium for that Gibson. I too had the same binding issues. I switched over to PRS guitars and have been super happy, even though I could've bough a nice used sports bike for what I paid :(
