I passed my Class 1 in 1986. From your video nothing has changed in the transport industry. In 35 years. I've found that wherever you work, route planners use a map from a Collins pocket diary,Transport clerks in general have micro willies and to make them feel impotent love giving drivers grief. When I firsr started in the industry an old timer said to me "A shit job is only as shit as how long it lasts, tomorrow will be better". He was referring to a bad run. Speaking from 35 years as a trucker you've just got to keep your head down, get on with it and overall the good days far outweigh the bad. I'm old skool from the days with manual gearboxes, no power steering and certainly no night heaters with ice on the inside of your windows when you wake up. UK trucking is not for the faint hearted, if you want to make a career out of it, grit your teeth, smile, show them your not bothered what crap they throw at you and carry on, even if you're fuming inside. It passes them off more than arguing with them.

If we were still on manual boxes the standard of hgv driving in the UK would be a whole lot better. The way it is now any idiot can drive an automatic hgv and it shows on the road that lots of idiots have taken up the job making the rest of us look bad.

Agree with just about everything you said (you could also have mentioned wages haven't changed much either!). However just a small voice in defence of the Transport Clerks. They answer to the Transport Manager who is the one who gets called to a Public Inquiry if (when) things go wrong. If the TM and company want to escape unscathed from it, he has to prove that he has created systems, trained drivers etc in them, audited them, reviewed them and *enforced* them. Trust me "I had a quiet word with the naughty driver" does not cut it, there has to be a formal paperwork trail (and if my experience of Inquiries is standard, then the Traffic Commissioner *will* ask for proof that even the most petty issues have been addressed). The TMs job (and so the clerks) is to be nitpicky I'm afraid. Anything else then not only does he risk losing his good repute/fitness (so losing his job), the company could lose its operator licence. I know it isn't a popular thing to defend the bureaucrats, but they are like they are because that is necessary to protect the company. Though tbh they are generally chosen for the job because they are already nit-picking petty barstewards! 😂

You’re quite right to pick and choose what work you do. Everybody doing what they’re told is why the job is now so awful they’ve run out of drivers and the pay is near minimum wage! Personally, I preferred trunking which is why I don’t do multi-drops and therefore gave it up.

Hi Gareth just watched your video and i agree wholeheartedly with what you said as I had a similar experience with a company i started on and i hate being lied to,so guess what I walked out that company is no longer and alot of drivers didn't get paid and that was city transport.keep safe and well Dave.

That’s disgusting behaviour from WS allowing another driver to empty your truck out. I’d be pissed too and hand my notice in.

Can't agree with everything you say , yes it is Deadys personal gear , but it is not his personal truck . It is there to earn money , not to sit around waiting for him . Deady seems to always be blaming his planner , if he wants a personal truck that's his , then go and buy one .

@@dickdastardly635 Can't agree 100% with you either. It may be their truck, but if the requirement for the vehicle is needed, you make sure the rig is empty, and if it isn't, you ask the person who spends most of their working time in the rig to remove their things (Can easily be done if you're properly managing your fleet). Might not be mandatory, but it is bloody well ethical, and you certainly don't just dump it on the floor for the person to pick it up like he has just been canned. :) Not being meaning to be disrespectful to your view.

If that was me l'd have refused to do that. I certainly wouldn't want anyone touching my personal belongs so l would never touch anyone else's personal stuff! I guess this knob of a planner was expecting a reaction . I feel so angry on deadies behalf! Typical he got a foreigner to do it too!

Another great vlog and love the honesty. Was in a similar situation myself a few months ago working for a large company on good money but similar situation, stuff being stolen all the time, other drivers bitchin every single day which when your battling anxiety issue really drives your own morale into the ground but unlike those guys I had enough and walked away. Now on a bit less money but work with a great bunch of lads and never any grief from management etc. Loving driving and life again. Keep up the great work Deady 👍

Dude love your vids. All you need to do is get 6 months worth of bills money in your bank. Once you have this or more you will never be bothered who the boss is again. Too many companies think that will all need them, however once you have money behind you the game changes, as you can leave. The more people can do this the tide will change for employment. The power to be employed is yours not the company.

Stuck to the rules 100%- happy with my office job then I can drive the occasional day at the weekend (agency too lol). Loved the first couple of months of lockdown- roads quiet and plenty of demand for drivers. Think you still deserve your takeaway- going from a tag to a mid-lift will always be a challenge so don’t be too hard on yourself

Well fella, well done on restraining yourself from going for an out and out trash talk on WS. Respect. I think you put your grievances well and it sounds like you did the right thing in walking. As you pointed out about some folks that always moan and do nothing but carry on just the same and keep moaning, those types I've found for the last forty years. What has started to bug me is the total lack of respect I've felt from parts of the firm we run for, so a few weeks ago after another incident at our Cheshire depot I officially refused to ever use that depot again. Had two calls within 15 minutes about my decision. After putting my point to them they offered me £75 for my inconvenience, my response you will love, I told them to keep their money and I'll keep my sanity. Nice to see you in my old stamping ground of Mansfield. We delivered the material to build the roads at both of those industrial sites you were at. Take care of yourself and stay as happy as you can.

I did the same thing deadly, I was 19 years at my last company. I bitched and moaned about it, the new company owner was a total prick. Looking around I found a class 2 job delivering bulk propane, I have never been happier. I know that I will never go back to tramping again. Great vlog pal.... 👍
