Why I Left Christianity, One Year Later

My response to my video on "Why I Left Christianity," one year later.
I discuss comments on my KZread video, common questions I get on deconstruction, and what I believe now.

Crazy how if I had watched this video 5 years ago I would have written “praying for you.” But now here I am, an agnostic, continually breaking down my old Christian faith. I hope you are doing well! I hope you continue making more videos, I live in Germany and found that part of your story also very interesting :)

Mickey - The same with me. I have been in the process of deconstructing the Christian faith that I once had for a few years now. I would say that, first and foremost, I consider myself to be a humanist. I desire the well-being of my fellow human beings and that they might experience the least amount of suffering while they are here on this earth. As far as a god/gods is concerned, at this point I am agnostic. There may be a god/s, but I don't think there is a preponderance of evidence to convince me at this point. That could change of course. For now I am inclined to say I just don't know.

I first saw you on Dereck Lambert’s MythVision (and had never heard of Preterism). I just found and watched both of your “Why I left…” videos in their entirety: What a breath of fresh air! At 50 years young, I have been deconstructed for over a year now and I am “spiritually” happier than I ever have been in my life. The only thing I “lost” was the FEAR! Thank you so much for everything you have shared and will be sharing. Great question, BTW: Where do we go, if not church?

    91. Allah has never begotten a son, nor is there any god besides Him. Otherwise, each god would have taken away what it has created, and some of them would have gained supremacy over others. Glory be to Allah, far beyond what they describe. 92. The Knower of the hidden and the manifest. He is exalted, far above what they associate. 93. Say, “My Lord, if You would show me what they are promised. 94. My Lord, do not place me among the wicked people.” 95. We are surely Able to show you what We promise them. 96. Repel evil by what is better. We are aware of what they describe. 97. And say, “My Lord, I seek refuge with You from the urgings of the devils. 98. And I seek refuge with You, my Lord, lest they become present.” 99. Until, when death comes to one of them, he says, “My Lord, send me back. 100. That I may do right in what I have neglected.” By no means! It is just a word that he utters. And behind them is a barrier, until the Day they are resurrected. 101. When the Horn is blown, no relations between them will exist on that Day, and they will not ask after one another. 102. Those whose scales are heavy-those are the successful. 103. But those whose scales are light-those are they who have lost their souls; in Hell they will dwell forever. 104. The Fire lashes their faces, and therein they grimace. 105. “Were not My revelations recited to you, and you kept on rejecting them?” 106. They will say, “Our Lord, our wretchedness prevailed over us, and we were a people astray. 107. Our Lord! Bring us out of this. If we ever returned, we would truly be evil.” 108. He will say, “Be despised therein, and do not speak to Me. 109. There was a group of My servants who would say, `Our Lord, we have believed, so forgive us, and have mercy on us; You are the Best of the merciful.' 110. But you made them a target of ridicule, until they made you forget My remembrance; and you used to laugh at them. 111. Today, I have rewarded them for their endurance. They are the ones who are the triumphant.” 112. He will say, “How many years did you remain on earth?” 113. They will say, “We remained a day, or part of a day; but ask those who keep count.” 114. He will say, “You remained only for a little while, if you only knew. 115. Did you think that We created you in vain, and that to Us you will not be returned?” 116. So Exalted is Allah, the Ruler, the Real. There is no god except He, the Lord of the Noble Throne. 117. Whoever invokes another god besides Allah-he has no proof thereof-his reckoning rests with his Lord. The disbelievers will not succeed.

Like you, I was educated (MDiv), studied Greek, read Hebrew books, I led ministries, even wrote and published a book on Christ, homeschooled my sons, yadda yadda...well, I have finally freed myself of the lies of Christianity. I am literally on the same page as you. Again, THANK YOU for sharing your journey publically. Something I learned, when I became an atheist after my first church, I learned that this brought me closer to God than when I was in that church because it was all about meeting God's standards of faithfulness to be accepted. I returned to Christianity after learning repentance has nothing to do with being accepted by God, and this led me to learning it's all about love. But understanding what exactly love is, is very very challenging for me. I became a rescuer in a relationship in high school that resulted in my ex committing suicide; what I thought was love and care was not love at all. I believe God is teaching us all to love, and that even those who leave the faith will be taught in God's patience.

No. Creator-designer? Yes. That one does not demand nor require worship.

How silly… like football players on a field. Needless to say my life is so much better, in a way… but my PTSD is compounded with the fact that I impacted strangers lives for NO GOOD reason for my involvement in an UNJUST war. I wish I could go beg forgiveness for all the harm that I did. For the lives I stole away and the hate I carried with me. I suffer greatly for this. Myself I say religion is 50% culture, nothing wrong with that in a way but people definitely invent religions for whatever reason or sometimes they are built on the skeleton of teachings of a very wise being but the" saint" or teacher never founded a religion, thats not what they do. You could also say all religions are cults as the followers are constricted to "I believe this and I believe that and not allowed to question or think about it, much like some politics! One thing to say though is that life certainly is a journey, a spiritual journey, we are spiritual beings having a human experience, doesn't mean we need a religion !

I really enjoy your interviews and videos!! My deconstruction was much the same .... in that, when I was about 12 I asked my parents about god they told me.they had no idea but if I ever found out let them know! So ... yeah, that's where I started and I did look and study and the whole process. Indeed, once I learned how to actually SEE what I was reading and ask the correct questions AND logically process what I found... it was pretty much over. Lol. I just wish it hadn't taken so long... BUT I'm grateful for the journey and all the wonderful people I met along the way. I love your frankness and your humor! I haven't yet watched the what is god video yet so you may very well cover this in it ... I would probably forget my point if I waited to mention it though.. The mind body connection in regards to nutrition... I dont know if it's so much about the 'foods ' energy as it is about our ability to digest and use the nutrients. Negative energy would cause our body to not function efficiently. Our thoughts, attitudes and the attitudes of those around us ABSOLUTELY have a profound impact on our mental state! That in turn controls every aspect of our lives... our bodies, our relationships, the very way we think. Its incredible, more miraculous than walking on water!! 😁... I've been a nurse for about 20 years now and it is SO obvious in patient recovery. Many many studies and peer reviewed papers have been done now. I'm only 30 minutes into this video, I felt the spirit move me to stop and comment, really,.. it was the spirit!! it had nothing to do with menopause and my memory turning completely to mush, so back to watching I go. And thank you for all you do.

Thanks for a good laugh, Jennie! I love your comment! As for the energy regarding food, I think it is BOTH. Certainly the good or the negative vibrations involved in the preparation of the food and the atmosphere in which it is eaten affect our body's ability to digest it properly. But also, the nutrient make-up of the food itself has various levels of vibrations as well. I choose foods with higher vibrations. Junk foods, or processed foods, have lower vibrations. Hope that helps.

The almighty needed a plan that included belittling, humiliation, torture and leaving him to hang for all those hours? No. That’s not love. God is love. They murdered Jesus because of his teachings. The deceit runs deep and it’s to keep control over the masses and to fund their evil. Church doesn’t teach us to fast, or meditate. Jesus did both. Jesus taught us the kingdom of heaven is within. He knew that we can’t gain perfection, so God sent His perfect Son, Jesus Christ, to take on all the sins of the world, for every person including you and me, and He took on the punishment for us. Thus, we as Christians, are covered by Jesus’ protection. Christians don’t have to fear judgement, which is for nonbelievers. Yes, we Christians will be judged, but for rewards that we will receive in Heaven, we won’t be punished. Yes, Jesus said the Kingdom of Heaven is within all Christians; that’s because when we became Christians, God sent the Holy Spirit to live within each one of us. Scriptures describe love…is kind, patient etc. At the time of the crucifixion, Jesus had grown in popularity and his miracles of healing sure turned many a head. The establishment was already in place and Caesar and the gang had MUCH to lose because of Jesus. God sent Pilate’s wife a dream, that caused her terror. She shared this dream with Pilate stating Jesus was innocent and NOT to support the crucifixion. Pilate tried and made many attempts to have Jesus spared, but they wouldn’t have it. A murderer was released and an innocent man was belittled, degraded, humiliated, tortured and hung until death. I’m sorry, LOVE DID NOT do that. This has been part of the deception. The same EVIL from 2000 years ago controlled people using fear and the people funded the establishment and continue to do so. The TRUTH is coming out and the evil that has robbed the masses of peace, security and finances is being exposed. Scripture tells us many will leave their faith. This breaks my heart. I’m glad I have dismissed religion, but not Christ. Honestly, it’s been several years of de programming. I have never had more love or respect for another human as I do for Jesus. Until I take my last breath, I will follow his teachings and strive to follow his example. I’ll NEVER match Jesus example tho, and as long as I do my best, I’m happy, at peace and free from the fear. As a former fundamentalist Christian I applaud your knowledge and courage to speak out about religion. Regarding NDE's however the out of body experiences (OBE's) that often accompany the NDE demonstrate that our consciousness does in fact survive physical death. Many of these OBE's are corroborated by others. I've studied this for nearly 30 years and the overall evidence is compelling and irrefutable. I have investigated too many of these to deny this reality even if we can't prove it scientifically yet. The OBE is key to understanding and accepting the validity of the NDE. I am as certain of this as we both are about Christianity and both of my certainties are based on solid research, reason and logic. Thank you for sharing your story with us ❤️ EDIT: After listening to the entire video I have to add that your presentation here is absolutely brilliant and well thought out. If you and they, truly believe it is fiction, can you please group up with them, and use your lives, money, retirement funds, together with your current beliefs and study, to contact the Israeli and Palestinian leaders, all the 'terrorist' organizations, Mossad, etc and insist that they stop the fighting and the killings also the evictions and imprisonments 'because they believe in fictional stories and characters' and are committing atrocities due to believing that fiction or fake news to be true? Since it is also now an atrocity for you and others to be claiming to have found or to know the Truth, but all you can do is make videos on KZread and show acknowledgement those who agree with you, with a thank you, but no planning together to even go out to those countries to stop what the 'fake books/news/characters' is being used to do there. That would be love for everyone. Can you please also contact all governments who currently allow funding to go out of their countries by Jews/Muslims/Christians living in their countries, to the middle east. Require those governments to immediately bar this practice as it is pillaging the poor from those countries to fund wars in the middle east and or to fund projects to build the third temple etc. Also please can you find a team to go out to all churches and stop the spread of the prosperity gospel which is also looting the poor of the other nations. Thanks Jen. Hope to see you doing great things and making a real Truthful difference, showing real love, with what you've studied and now claim to be true.

How can anybody claim to know what’s true when they just believe what they believe because it makes them comfortable to believe in something that they can’t prove. If anyone had proof they would just present the evidence. Here’s a simple thought experiment. God can be all-knowing or all powerful but not both their mutually exclusive. If God is all knowing then he cannot make any changes because if he did it would mean that he didn’t know. If God can’t make changes then God can’t be all powerful. If God is perfect God cannot be more perfect because that would mean that he wasn’t perfect in the first place.

I want to thank you for your videos, from the bottom of my heart. I listened to your first video on this topic, just last night, and it validated me deeply. I grew up in the New Age, Judaism and Spiritualism. I was exposed to all sorts of philosophies from the far East to metaphysics, to Catholicism (I went to Catholic school for six years just for an improved education, not for religious reasons). So, I’ve been exposed to quite a lot. From the time I was a very young girl, I felt I had a relationship to God, which to me, was simply an energy, a force. I talked to God frequently. I didn’t believe in hell, Jesus, or anything Christian; because it didn’t make sense to me. As I continued growing up and into my adulthood, I just adhered to the idea that Love was to be my only concern when it came to my spirituality. To me, Love is the force of God and it is the essence of every act an expression of good, of righteousness, of integrity, and so forth. I explored Christianity seriously for a few years and recently arrived at a place where I realized it just wasn’t resonating entirely and that I didn’t want to be a part of the community. I was feeling torn.. not sure if perhaps some old “demons” were keeping me from it or if good sense and a deep wisdom was telling me something. I asked God to help me find a place of conclusion and of peace with all this questioning of my beliefs. When I found your video, I was certain I found it. Your lifelong experience and knowledge is astounding!! I feel confident that I can rest and quiet my mind now and that I can finally leave my Christian exploration. I feel it was was worth looking into and the doubts I had, the feeling that something wasn’t right is now validated and I know it’s not because I prefer my comfort zone, because there’s a difference. We know when we know. I personally adhere to the principles of the 12-step programs (I am not an addict, but I love the program) and I simply choose to live from a heart-centered place with the knowledge that we actually don’t know anything, but that our only concern should be to love one another… anything beyond that must not be for us to know, otherwise we would. Anyway, thank you so much. I respect you and admire you for your content and your wisdom! ❤

Consider, are there moral imperitives in life, or in the cosmos or universe etc. Would it always be wrong to murder someone, is stealing always wrong, is hurting other people always wrong, I mean, is there an unwritten moral code which may have nothing to do with religion and, could part of that moral code be with regard to sexuality and how we protect families and our children. ..my pet phrase " don't throw the baby out with the bathwater "

you asked for suggestions for future videos. i heard you speak one time about astrotheology but i can't remember which video it was. we are in pisces now with the fish symbol. aquarius is the next age. moses was taurus age because of the bull they created and worshipped after he came down from getting the ten commandments. before that age you mentioned cancer age which was the time of goddesses. i really would like to have good sources to research this. but i don't want a 500 page book. or one that is technically over my head.

I am now a practitioner of traditional witchcraft and am studying paganism. 😊 It’s all energy work. I get healing from my spells. I can literally stop pain from a burn instantly just saying my on words and using my intention. Please keep posting these wonderful videos.

I’m an ex con who totally destroyed his life and I used xtian principles to become a better human being and I was alone in a cell for two years and All I got from reading the whole Bible (I stopped counting at 7 times through) and It basically boils down to Justice, love and wisdom. Now I’m having issues and I feel like I’m regressing, what is your spiritual or life’s walk’s philosophy that you can share to help me in my journey?

I have just 1 question for Jen. In March 1992, I was at a Bible study. We had a major snowstorm that day. I was upset about the weather being bad. I wanted Spring to arrive. An elderly gentleman there, who I never met before, didn't know a thing about me, suddenly looked at me and told me that God told him I was upset about the weather. I'm just curious "how" he could know that about me, a complete stranger I never met before. I didn't tell a soul at that Bible study that I was bummed about the weather. At this point in my life, I do have reserves about religion/Christianity. I just still wonder how people can know things about others who are complete strangers. They say it's God giving them a word of knowledge. Any thoughts......???

Where I struggle in getting fully on board, because it is answering most of the questions that I have had about God and the Bible... and putting away my life of being a Christian... is when my mother past away. As she lay dying she was talking of seeing the people, Jesus and her baby. A baby that she lost in the 5th month of her pregnancy. She said the door is open so pretty. How can this be without Jesus being real? She said his name. Any explanation for these near death experiences? Thank you for your honesty. I believe letting go of things that do not have proof is freedom. But is also a bit scary.

Hey Jen, was seeing if you could do a video on “the satan” in the old testament compared to the proper noun satan in the new. 2 samuel 24:1 and 1chronicals 21:1, do you see this as the same entity? Cause ha satan was also used as an angel of the lord.

  • @JenFishburne

    @JenFishburne

    2 жыл бұрын

Hi Roden! I may, but I'm so far past all that now! "Hasatan," or "the satan," simply means "the enemy" or "the adversary." If you used "enemy" or "adversary" in today's conversation, would you be talking about the same person, or group of people, every time you used that word? You might have a political "adversary," or we might consider North Korea to be our enemy, or maybe you even consider some news station to be "the enemy." So, it's all in context, right? Same thing in the Bible stories. This is that audience relevance I was speaking about. WHO is the subject in each passage? Is it a different entity? (Yes) Then it is simply an adjective and not a proper noun.

I appreciate this assessment.... From my perspective it holds a lot of truth. The only couple of “issues” I have is the 100% confidence that Jesus was mythical...... Even Josephus acknowledged that he existed and that there may have been something special about him. (Yes I am aware of the church messing with the historians work.... doesn’t change the fact that he described his existence)... Having studied many years I get where her conclusion comes from though.... Yet, there is, I believe within most who hear the “good news” is a big what if?? Why is this??? ( it’s about way more than a hell or sin issue).... There is something deeper going on with the theme of Jesus that stirs the spirit when heard by most... There is something to be said about that. Second, the food energy thing is ridiculous and exaggerated. Finally, I am quit familiar with the law of attraction.....There is a lot of truth in this as well but fails on many, many themes. The Holocaust is probably the best example. So, like an Esther Hicks to put ones faith in the force ALONE defies our very innate souls longing and knowing that we are meant and belong to a loving greater “ being”.... that has emotions, desires and will.... and no, it’s not just a force as evidenced by the creation and science. I don’t blame her or others though as religion, especially Christianity, has really screwed up the true nature of God. To be continued

  • @JenFishburne

Hi Scott! Thanks for your comment. I'm glad much of it resonated with you. It's OK if we disagree on a few details. Regarding Josephus on Jesus, the ONE instance where he talked about "Jesus" was obviously added later by someone else. You would think that if Jesus did exist, that Josephus would have written quite extensively about him, but he didn't. Have you read Richard Carrier's tome on this subject? It is quite exhaustive. I did not go into details in this video. It was an overview. I agree that the Law of Attraction has been greatly misused by many. I think that is because it is not truly understood. I find that it works MORE when we are not even aware of it. I might talk on that later. I don't find the need for faith at all anymore. I am fine with facts.

Hi Jen! I’ve been watching your videos and I’m totally on board! I’ve been telling my husband these things for about a year and he ran across you and told me “This lady says the same things you do!” It feels good to know there are others who have critically thought their way into these ideas/beliefs. I’m looking forward to more videos! I would love to know your thoughts on the “one woman + 14 gods” idea. If “God” is energy, then where did these 14 “gods” come from. Enoch called them fallen angels. Energy makes sense to me. It’s logical and scientific. Fallen angels/gods….I’m not so sure about. I also grew up as a Christian and have had a strong belief/faith in the god/Jesus of the Bible my whole life, until the past few years of critical thinking took over. Thanks for sharing your research with us!
