Why I Left America for Poland #2 [Kult America]
After this life changing experience at the Skansen in Sanok, I have decided that for the next half year I will be focusing on Podkarpackie once again, one video every month!
Context:
A few years back I had created a video titled "Why I Left America for Poland", simply to answer the most popular question that Kult America viewers had asked me. Not realising that the video would gain such massive viewership, I have always felt uneasy about failing to answer that question in the most basic way - that Poland is where my ancestors are from! Living here and reconnecting with my heritage has been one of the most special things in my life so I'd like to address the topic once and for all! This is not just my story, this is everyones story...
Podkarpackie is in southeastern Poland and it's one of the most wooded Polish voivodeships. In the heart of Podkarpackie there is a charming town named Sanok, at the foothills of the Carpathian Mountains and it has the first and the biggest open-air museums in Poland - the Rural Architecture Museum of Sanok.

What makes your videos so great isn't the footage or the professionality it is the emotions that you can feel in every single one of them and this is really why I always return to this channel. I am looking forward for more videos about this beautiful country I already visited two times and always enjoyed.
Yours videos are really adwesome. I glad that you are Pole (maybe you're part Pole, but for me you are Pole anyway) :)

This is awesome! My great-grandfather left Galicja around 1886, when it was controlled by Austria-Hungary. He came from around the Kolbuszowa area--between Kraków and Rzeszów. My family and I visited a skansen near Kolbuszowa last year (July, 2018), and it was so very interesting to see how people lived in that area. Rather than settle in a large city like New York or Chicago, once he made enough money, he went to California, married a girl from Sweden, and, like many immigrants to the US at that time, he changed his family name to that of his employer. I could see how life at the skansen would seem so much more peaceful, and more tied to the land. That was what my pradziadek (great-grandfather) was looking for when he came to the US. Now, the area he once grew fruit trees in is now covered in houses and businesses. Poland was a great place for me to visit, and I think it's a great country! I'll be back there in just a few weeks, but I also love the country I grew up in. I'm proud to be an American of Polish (and Swedish....and British Isles) ancestry.

Identity is what we feel attached to now what our roots are. If you are partly polish English Swedish etc do you feel any identity ? The boy in this video has made up his mind. He has identity now. But you?

Vito Serf I am an American of mixed national heritage. I am personally enriched to have visited where both of my great grandparents came from. I can't say that I am more Polish, or Swedish, or whatever. I am just glad to know where my ancestors came from, as it satisfied my curiosity. I hope that makes sense. Blessings to you.

Matt Gilman I don’t connect identity with ancestors. Identity is a choice however highly influenced by the place we live in. But some people - like that boy - are capable to brake away from when he had lived and turn over a new leaf, to identify with other culture and nation.

Just say hello if you see me.
Nice to see you!
Your videos give me nostalgia for memories I never had.
My Family comes from about 7 Km west of Sanok and I know this Skansen. I have also had the privilege of attending Holy Mass at the Farna church and visiting the castle with an odd juxtaposition of Holy Iconography and the paintings of a brutal/grotesque painter whose name I can not recall, The feeling that you experienced when you recognized that the "village" had been recreated in the US by the Immigrants and then their children is more common than you might expect. I grew up in Elizabeth NJ and there were tons of homes with the Holy Cross, The Sacred Icon,, the pictures of grand and great grandparents and that feeling of holy dread. I have seen some towns in Eastern Pennsylvania and Albany NY that have the same m.o. Your work is providing so much of what we currently need, beauty and identity, There seems to be so little beauty presented in the electronic media that your work jumps out and draws me to it. I wish you and your family all of the best.
HI Ryan! I've visited my family in Wroclaw , was traveling around Poland , just came back 2 days ago and I am thinking of selling my house here in CALI and moving back to Poland. This is the first time i am thinking about this more seriously. ~ Robert
wow... Mr Ryan - the best of Your videos I had the chance to watch... May the Just Slav Gods be with You till the end of the world...
My father's Polish family came from villages between south of Krakow and west of Nowy Sacz, but my mother's Lemko family was much more closely tied to the area around Sanok, though we are still unsure of the actual villages.
Nice drone footage, dude.

Nice and interesting video! We also left our country and are now learning the language. We have started to sing Polish songs. Like the comment if you heard us singing.
Congratulations that you've found it! You've done great job to find your roots.Few centuries ago Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth was the most attractive place to live in Europe. And when Poles lost their country it was catholic faith, Polish language and memory about ancenstors that kept Poles together against all odds.

Perfect scenario and execution, from the video, to the camera, to audio, and of course the message. Impressive, probably one of the best personal videos made all over the world in the internet. The only suggestion I might have is sometimes maybe a bit pompous music at the end, but generally amazing. How much budget is need for such an almost Hollywood production is sth that is invading my mind :) Do you have any funding supporting the project?

My family left Poland in the 1920s seeking a better life in Canada. They soon found that the expectation and reality did not match. They wanted to return home, but as the Przewrót majowy unfolded they decided it best to stay in Canada. Now almost 100 years later I am trying to get citizenship of my great grandparents to learn the language and return to their homeland. Your channel really connects with me on this note (I was also born and raised in America). Keep making videos friend.

I do want to add though, that America is a wonderful country. I do think some of your thought process is flawed. Your grandparents had your parents speak only English because integration is extremely important in a functional country. That is why the US is going downhill. That is why you like Poland.

I want to be able to travel all around Europe and it’s hard to do that when you’re in America I have started already but like I said it’s very hard. I’m in Poland right now. Wonderful video. Truly inspirational. Hope that more people on Earth understand how important connecting with ancestors is. I am also a son of an immigrant, and getting ridiculed for speaking mother tongue is a very common issue. People want to blend by changing identity both physically and culturally after racist bullying issues, but we cannot be doing plastic surgery to change our DNA. We cannot change the fact that you are Polish, I am Tamil and both of us are humans with red colour blood. RACISM DOWN DOWN! GLORY TO OUR ANCESTORS!!!
