I've actually never commented on any KZread video but I felt a want to comment on this one. I have been watching you for 6-7 years now, through all the meal preps, moving to Toronto, living with Larissa, all the traveling with your dog, etc. and I have to say it is so inspiring and motivating to continue to watch you grow, change, and just flourish. I know things may be more stressful off-screen than the 10-20 minutes you show us, but it truly is amazing to see how much you have overcome in life, and going through so many things but still remaining authentic, relatable, and all-around an amazing person that I look forward to watching each video from. I hope you are able to manage your new schedules, and I hope the next nanny you have lined up will show up for your family!

I’ve been a full time nanny for nearly a decade, and you are 110% right. Your baby is your most precious thing, if someone shows you that they are selfish and unreliable the last thing you want is them in charge of your child! Of course we all run into crazy traffic and run a few minutes behind or have family emergencies but for all that to happen in her first 3 weeks of employment is pretty unbelievable. Wishing you all the best!

I just heard the bit about you feeling guilty about missing your son’s early days and I felt compelled to share this with you. My mother runs her own accounting office which of course gives her some flexibility but obviously she still needs to work and put in the time. I feel it’s a tiny bit similar to your work situation. My mom had a full time nanny for me throughout all my childhood (who of course became part of my family) and she has always told me that the way she looked at it was this: “I got to come home and experience the best and most special parts of your life with you. I didn’t have to spend my time preparing things for you, cleaning up after you and doing all the tasks that ‘surrounded’ you in order to be with you. I just got to come home to love you and hug you and sing to you, the best version of you that was already rested and fed and bathed, and you were at your most open to receive my love and play.” I know that some may respond with “the cleaning and the bathing and the cooking is part of it all” and that’s true! But my mother did those things too from time to time and she still provided for me and my siblings and I have never EVER thought “mom, you should have done it all yourself”. I’m actually grateful she so cherished the time she spent with me.

I was a nanny for a handful of years and always texted my employer the moment something came up on the rare occasion that it did. It sounds like she didn't care about the job and that's someone you definitely don't want watching your kid! It's been a year or two, but I still find myself wondering how the little boy i used to take care of is doing. He was 3-4 when I took care of him so I don't think he'd remember me, but I think of him often ❤

I never nannied but I regularly babysat the same little guy for a few years growing up and I also wonder how he’s doing today 🥲 but yes, she wanted to be a teacher so this was just a summer job for her.

I'm a long time watcher but very infrequent commenter, but I wanted to let you know how inspiring your vlogs are. Even when they are "scattered" like this (didn't feel that way to me tbh), or pieced together, or when we're in different seasons of our lives than each other (we almost always are). Haven’t been back in a while!! Glad to see you’re doing ok!! I love the name Easton so much 😭 so crazy to see you as a mom now!! As someone who has had sh*t hit the fan for reals (my grandma died and then I got really sick following my first week of working somewhere) I tried my best to push through and communicate what was happening throughout. That person was making things up 100%. There’s no excuse and you made the right call especially since being a nanny effects you so intimately. Keep it pushing Mama! You got this!

Always trust your gut feeling, you have those instincts for a reason! Every nanny and family is unique, and sometimes it takes a few tries to find that perfect bond. My son was 6 months when the first Covid lockdown began. We didn’t have any family come over, certainly no daycare program, no help at all watching him while we were also expected to work from home and justify working from home by meeting equal or higher expectations from our jobs. It was one of the hardest, most stressful times of my life. We ended up creating this crazy routine where I began my day at 5 am, did several hours of work, switched off with my husband for a couple hours in the morning, switched back and continued in that manner until between 5 and 6 pm every day. So I feel like I can completely relate to your struggle here. It is not easy. But I found the strength I needed to do what was best for my son and you are too. Looks like you’re doing an awesome job!

Same, my son was 10 months in March 2020. When I went back after mat leave, my husband and I worked opposite hours until Sept 2021 when my son started preschool. It was a year and a half but I also am so happy I had the extra time with my son! I'm not able to wfh now and can't imagine how I have to send my second to daycare full time at only a year old. I know I have it so much better than so many others, especially in the U.S.!

Hi Kalyn, I just want you to know you're not alone in these types of situations and you will find someone reliable soon! I've watched your videos for a long time but now that I'm a mom as well I don't get to watch as much. I had the same experience as you and this was with my husband's niece, and since it was family it was kind of worse. Idk what it is if it's a generational thing or young adults aren't as motivated but it's really disappointing. Even though its hard, you have to push through and allow yourself to go back to work and reconnect with ur former self. You n ur baby get to miss each other and it's amazing how good it feels to actually have time to drink your coffee while its still warm or have some adult conversation. You go home in a better mood and with more patience for your baby. I struggled with leaving my baby every morning and my my therapist said something that helped, its not about the goodbye, it's about looking forward to coming home. Something so simple but so true. Now I barely say have a good baby and she's already waving goodbye at me. 😢😂 ❤ Hang in there mama!

Oh beautiful girl, we love you so damn much and as a FTM to a 1 year old, also in a similar working space as you, I sooooo get it! I come from a family of 10 kids and have been a nanny/babysitter until now at 21 and and work with many ages during the weeks and so wish I could fly out and help you guys out! hope she learns that communication and time management is really needed when caring for little ones, All my work kiddos are treated as if they are my own so it’s sad to see that some people don’t appreciate the second best job out there 🤎

As someone who used to babysit as a middle school and high schooler not even I was that irresponsible at that age when it came to taking care of someone else’s kids. I always did was was asked of me. I even worked at a resort as a baby sitter for resort stayers and complete strangers would ask for me every time they came back to the resort. Sometimes people don’t understand that even though there is a certain relaxation of having this kind of job it is very important and the duties of care for the child and consistency are top priority. Child care is such an important job. You are someone who is making an impact on a childs life and how they grow. I hope you find someone to help you.

I babysit my close friend's 8 month old daughter 1-3 times a week and even though we have that friendship base, I show up 10 minutes early for my shift and I text her two days prior if anything comes up, which only happened once when I got the flu. I couldn't imagine handling a job that involves A WHOLE PERSON so carelessly. I'm so sorry you had to go through this! And I hope you find the best care for your little boy xx

Ive followed you since i was like 14 im 24 now with 2 baby girls and all i have to say is your a great mom im fortunate now to be a full time mommy but my husband works 6:30am-5pm gets home 6:15pm and then when i worked i went from 3pm-12am never slept because i needed to be their for my girls didn’t have the same days off with my hun and only had a sitter for 3 1/2 hrs we do what we need to do for our kids luckily your in a better position than most to do so.💜

When I went into being a nanny full time I knew basically this is signing up for never calling in unless I’m sick and don’t want to get the child sick. You’re being there for a family!! Yes they’ll be understanding of your emergencies as long as you actually show up

Babysitter, nanny, and au pair and different levels of care, responsibilities, training, and education. Some people want to be called the later two because they what the difference in pay and benefits. It sounds like you want a nanny but she was acting more like a first time babysitter. I am glad you heeded the read flags and although in the short-term it may cause some challenges with your schedule but the overall peace of mind is priceless. I am confident that you both will hire the person that is the right fit for your family and needs.

I'm so sorry you got a flaky nanny. I was a nanny for 10 years, and that behavior is completely unacceptable. You are literally leaving your most precious possession with someone else. If you don't have someone who is going to make Easton and your family a priority, there is someone out there who will. You'll find the right person, but in the meantime, enjoy this extra time with Easton. Also, I've been watching your channel for...not sure how many years. I know your number of subscribers was still only 5 figures when I started watching. I love watching you, because you are so good at taking on new challenges and reworking things until you get it right. It's really inspiring to watch how you organize and conduct yourself. Honestly I think people just don't want to work and I can't believe she did that to you, because at the end of the day, it is commitment and respect. Woooow, my dad had an incident at work when I was 16, both me and my sister went babysitting for the same family (two brothers with own wives/kids). I stayed with my working family for 2 years and a half, caring for their 2 girls like they were my own kids! There is nothing more serious than supporting a working family by babysitting their children, you can’t mess up! A baby needs affection, routine, stability, bonds 😢 I am so sorry you had to go through this!

I had the same experience only the other way around when I was in the process of being hired as an au pair (mind you, I live in Norway and was moving my whole life to England in order to work for this family). I had scheduled a Skype meeting with the mother to get stuff in order. I think we ended up having 5 meeting where she just didn't show, and messaged me after the fact (and I had taken time out of my busy schedule with work and studies to meet with her). No apologies, a lot of weird excuses. Loved the children, but communication with the mother was so awful that I decided to nokæt take the job. Luckily ended up with a great family in the end, and I still talk to them 7 year later! Hope your next nanny will be better at the coms♥️

I'd love to see Easton's routine! My daughter is the same age 🤗

I was a full-time nanny for 10 years with multiple families over the years & you gave her more than enough chances. I rarely rarely called out despite having so many different circumstances come up. One time I had to drive my roommate to a psych ward at 2am to stop her from harming herself & I still showed up the next morning at 7:30am to work because I knew how much it would screw up the parents schedules if I called out with that short of notice. Yes things happen & things come up but if she had that many things truly going on then she should have just said “Hey, I’m really sorry but I don’t think this job fits into my life right now. I took it on prematurely and have too much going on right now to show up consistently & focus, thank you for the opportunity but I need to give my notice.” Simple. And the other thing is that if someone is being that inconsistent with a job then they clearly don’t care enough about it because that’s also money that she’s missing out on so if she really needed the job or wanted it she would’ve still showed up so she could still be making money.

what about a summer aupair from aupair world , lots of people would do that .

As a nanny, not okay!! I was with my last family for nearly 5 years.. I never used a vacation day/called in sick/nor was a late. I worked roughly 60-80 hours a week, and absolutely NOTHING came before my job. And during Covid, they had me move in with them to make things easier. My current family- (as I moved out of state) same exact way; if someone isn’t going to show up and do their job, good riddens.

I was a full time nanny and I did housework and stuff and I never called in sick except when I had the flu. I would recommend maybe getting a mothers helper for a few hours and then a house cleaner for the light housework?

So two things, 1. I was a full time nanny and I NEVER EVER would miss one single day. I did their laundry, grocery shopped and cooked dinner for the whole family and was getting paid 15 dollars an hour. This was in 2020. If I needed to miss one day I would give two weeks notice. Second, I had my 8 month old baby boy Ezra in September around when you had your baby Easton. I also have a business and I work from home. Someone watching your baby is the most important job in the entire world. My mom watches my baby, but truly can be so stressful if you don't have consistency. You deserve MUCH better from a nanny! Good luck with everything.

My nanny since Februaryis constantly late for reasons like a half hour late. And usually needs a day off a week last minute, so only is there 4 days. Debating letting her go.

i woke up sicker than i had ever felt and called the mom i was a nanny for, and she (a DR) had a prescription for me waiting on my arrival and i showed up right when expected (7am). most will say "omg you came around the baby sick" but the mom needed me, and if she felt comfortable, i was going to do my responsibility. was it my hardest day babysitting? 100%. i cried as i threw up during the babies naps. but i still got the kitchen clean and the mom not only ordered me meds and brought them, but also gave me a huge bonus. communication is the key! no excuses. when you nanny, its because the family needs you desperately so they can do their job, so i know you will find willing and capable folks!:) ps:no baby did not get sick, found out it was food poisoning.

Ok wow you are a champion!!! I definitely would understand staying home in that condition. In fact I understand staying home in lots of different situations, it was just a lot of coincidences in such a short three weeks that my understanding wore out.

O.M.G!!! As a professional Nanny for over 20 years, this is super upsetting. I personally always think of making sure to not inconvenience the parents when I have emergencies, get sick, need vacation time off etc. I plan a head as much as possible and communicate with the parents asap if I'm going to be late or unable to come in for the day. Everything you asked for her to do on the 2nd chance, is literally what every full-time Nanny is expected to do. Even though my hours are guaranteed I still log in and out, daily. It helps the parents know I'm working hours agreed on and making sure to calculate my over time. All this to say, parents should focus on hiring career Nannies. Or make sure you require the Nanny to have 5+ years of full-time experience, letters of recommendation from previous families and references. Hope you can find the ideal Nanny for your family!
