I’d say the weight is killing my speed. Most of the drivers I go against are 50-70 kg so at 100 the speed on exit and down the straights are huge loss. I estimate the time difference at about half a second a lap because in a kart with great power with bad handling I can normally match beat them but in the ones with better handling than speed they’re usually faster by like 0.5-1 second a lap

Would it benefit more to be heavier or lighter, so you can put more ballast (controlling CoG more?) but sit higher?

Not sure if this is true for rental karts but it is true for competitive ”regular” karting. Where there is more options for weigth placement.

Dunno if it would make too much difference, but being lighter means its easier to control your weight by just adding a bit of lead instead of dieting for weeks, however if you're doing a team race with pitstops, that extra time it takes to take out the seat or take lead off the posts can make or break your race

Much greater benefit to be lighter. A 10kg reduction in weight supposedly gains a tenth or more in F1. Karts have much lower power and weight so a 5kg reduction will massively improve the power to weight. Makes braking better, makes acceleration better, makes cornering better.

@@dahorn100011 I meant what @Maximlz said in the next reply. I think almost everyone knows Lighter is better (unless you are Bugatti, in that case just keep adding cylinders and HP units). I meant whether you should just be heavy enough for the 80kg overall weight minimum, or to be light, say 45g, and add 15 kg weights on the seat.

I’m working on a rental kart mod since literally 6-7 months, for assetto corsa. Not kidding, full time, I delayed my other ideas development for making this. It’s a kart from sodi, which I driven for 3 years, so physics is getting very very close to the real thing. I hope you might be interested, let me know, in case I’m also making the track where I drive it, so that I can compare directly the footage from the track and the kart in game

I ran the yamaha comer class had to do the same thing

In the 90s I raced 125 air cooled 2-stroke in the U.K. with a minimum overall weight of 165kg. To get down to the weight I was doing all sorts of daft things like replacing the standard steel bumpers with aluminium which I had a local engineering shop make up for me. Of course you had to hope it didn’t get picked up by scrutineering…

Bro I weigh no where close to that. My whole seat would have to be weighted lmao. I'd need 19 kg of it.

Hey brother instead of us wing a toxic lead use butyl rubber it’s what we use in car audio for sound deadening. It can come in different thicknesses and will STAY on there no duck tape required.

Lead is only toxic if it enters your body, so either you swallow or inhale it (or get shot with it) its not bad for your body just by touching it, otherwise lead lined suits for radiation shielding would not be used.

Lower Center of gravity makes you slower in karting because you need to load up the outside tires. Having the weights higher is better!

That’s a minimum not maximum weight

my local karting league karts have slots for 10lb weights and provide the weights they try and get everyone around 200lbs

When I did the 24 hour BUKC race, we had special mounts behind the seat and between the engines (two framing engines) for the lead

Yeah that’s because that’s the right way to do it. Duct taping lead to the seat isn’t the smartest of ideas. Especially when they’re flat and can catch air if propelled.

@@Gu1tarZer0 thats inhalation and i left it out because it didn’t seem necessary because the guys just sitting on it, but yes lead fumes are extremely dangerous. Lead can store it self in your bones for up to 30 years and you can go years before you even start to show symptoms thats why its so dangerous in children and pregnant woman. Lead can be removed from your body its just a very painful process normally takes about a week or two

I used to work in a metal powder factory, making the metal powders for Engine bearings. They use lead which we melt down with copper, tin, phosphorus in a furnace then atomise into powder. We had to wear respirators all day in the factory and do blood tests every 3 months for lead:

Cool that they do this. Sadly doesn't solve the height problem though not sure there's a solution for that one. As a 6"4 person, my centre of mass being higher still makes cornering quite different to someone with a smaller frame. Low centre of mass definitely helps handling

Damn same for me here, I'm just 40kg so I had to fill my seat as well, unfortunately they ran out of lead so we used Plutonium 239 and it worked great as a replacenent.

Karting suits are for fire, it’s for friction like a motorcycle suit. No seatbelts, so if you get ejected, it’s meant to protect you. I don’t have a karting suit tho, so this one is a fire suit 😬

Unclear instructions, I almost got shot dead by the cops after emptying three magazines of bullets in my rental kart

Same thing with competitive sprint kayaking, cant be no lighter then (i do beleive) 12kgs. Well the boat has to weigh that much. Ive seen some people put in as much 2 or 3kgs to make weigh in..

I had to wear lead when skydiving. Everyone had to fall at the same rate, and I didn’t drink as much beer as some of the other guys that would fall a bit faster…

There I was double the height of the light kids and over the weight limit for competitive karting by myself. I got disqualified from winning in the wet once because I was over weight… with no weights on me or the kart 😅😅😅 I wasn’t fat just tall for the age group I was racing in.
