Why I Don't Ride A Downhill Bike At Whistler? 🤔
Спорт
A lot of people have wondered why I don't ride a Downhill bike at Whistler Bike park? The answer isn't too complicated. Most Enduro and even trail mountain bikes are pretty capable these days and while Whistler Mountain is one of the few bike parks that can warrant a DH bike, I don't feel like My Enduro bike holds me back much, plus I'm usually trying to do more than just ride the bike park.

Wow, going from quadriplegic to keeping up with professional riders at whistler in 5 years is an incredible recovery. Basically unheard of! Super stoked for Cho and his ability !

Universal mtb response haha. I hear my buddy giggling up front and screaming like a girl…I then hit the blind drop into the rock garden (oh that’s what that was) I scream then giggle as I almost pedal strike myself into the hospital. 2 guys behind me do the same. Somehow nobody dies. Do it again next weekend.

Hey Phil, I really enjoy watching you ride at Whistler and interacting with the other riders!!
Thank you for putting the answer immediately at the start of the video!
That jump at 9:25-9:30 from the curve, that was crazy close to the tree, yet you never lose a bit of control or freak out! You are crazy Phil! love your vids!
Heard Cho's story on Mahalo my Dude! Craziest part, it was a random medical phenomenon that caused it, not biking.
always refreshing when there's a new skills with Phil upload, awesome vid
So glad to have regular uploads back from you now that the parks are open again! You guys were freaking ripping!
10:32 Did you just tap that tree stump with your back wheel?! :D I just heard "YoOoOoO!!" From the rider behind haha!

sick video phil that huck looked crazy on gopro couldn't imagine if i saw it in person ive also been trying to push myself lately glad you still are your videos come out good each time
The force is a beast, haven't ridden anything I felt it couldn't do besides mabye a few downhill racetracks but that's to be expected
Good to see you back at Whistler. I enjoyed your 2019 videos from there as well.
Phil I love your videos they inspire me to ride more and create my own videos!!!
10:32 is POV internet gold. You hopped into the rock berm, then two turns later, you "stump bonked" off the hop. From the peanut gallery behind, you got, "Whooooa" from what sounded like it came from about two riders behind, followed immediately by a "What the F___?" from one that sounded closer. LOLOL
Love your video Phill!! Come ride Kingdom Trails and Burke Mountain!
Great to see Andrew out there crushin it again.
watching your videos gets me so stoked to ride my bike!
I've never noticed before this video so don't know if it's new, but nice L and J cuts in the edit! It makes such a huge difference to how well a video flows. As always, fantastic riding, Phil!
Another great vid man 🤘 Hope to make it here someday place looks insane. We hit thunder mountain this past weekend for there opening sunday/monday conditions were mint.

Great riding Phil

Going from a quadriplegic to riding mtb's again is an amazing recovery you love to see it
Epic like always
Your jumps are something. I have not seen anyone who jumps as powerfully as you.
I nearly had a heart attack when you jumped off to the side and goal posted those trees LMAO. Yikes dude.

The moon booter is crazy , I didn't ride it while at Whistler last year but watched a few crews ride it. Riders were 15 feet high and flew roughly 30 feet to cover the top . Amazing to see

Dude, love your videos. I’m thinking about a trip there this summer, any chance you list which trails you hit in that video (obviously I know A line…haha, just wondered what were some of the other tech trails). Thanks man!
It's just beautiful to watch guys who really know what they are doing ride those trails. The rest of us just have to dream...
I would love to do this. Looks epic.
If you aren't the smoothest rider on the planet, you are the smoothest rider that can capture it on film on the planet.
The berm gap at 9:25 was sick
Visited Whistler for the first time last weekend, coming from The Netherlands. It has been the best two-wheeled experience of my life. It is on another level, did 17 runs and couldn’t hold on to my grips at the end of the day. All I can say is that you have to go there and experience it.

Yea, on top of that there's so much going on around the village which basically feels like a college campus. You can get your moneys worth even if you started at in the late afternoon, and still have time to grab a beer and hang out afterwards. Its a pretty rad experience.

Whistler is not great at the moment, Creekside is closed and still tons of snow on Garbonzo. If you are from the Netherland you should go to Les Portes du Soleil, better trails variety, bigger jumps, cheaper and amazing steep trails.
@Dieterbe
2 жыл бұрын
@@skippylegrandgourou2069 I agree. whistler is really limited right now. Morzine/Les gets has more trails and is cheaper (If I remember correctly). also in France you can rent Enduro/trail bikes and take them to the park. in Whistler if you rent, you can only rent DH for the park which is really annoying IMHO. takes all the fun out of the easier trails

@vancan had a quick follow cam the other day kzread.infoMPH00aZ1h-c I think he said he has a longer video coming out too, of a different ride from whistler.
As an avid fan I can maybe help you out with your question about what direction your KZread channel should take... imho: You have the personality - like Seth on Berm Peak - to be able to carry off almost anything for at least a few minutes. However, people really watch for your insanely fast and daring mtb. So how about filming whatever you like, as long as you don't go on for too long, and always intersperse it with some typical Phil Kmetz mtb?! Just my opinion... 🤙🏼🙏🏼
Man, I HAVE to get to Whistler this summer!
Do I enjoy vicariously riding the trails with you? Yes indeed.

Phil, if you add the default audio transition between clips it will eliminate that tick sound between cuts. You only need to have the transition overlap 1 frame on each clip.

Y'all were flying ! Literally
Great day Whistler.
I can't wait to meet you again someday Phil, lets take laps at highland sometime.
I've riddin every trail there multiple times on my 4x bike. I find those trails pretty chill for DH.
Phil, you should do a video short of how you pack for MTB trips where flights are involved. I’m planning a trip and tips would be great.
Im more scared watching Phil ride than i am riding myself
The nose bonk at 7:09 was clean
the beauty in a nice enduro bike ride it anywhere
Downhill footage is amazingly stable.
Phil, you boost/jump all the trail features so effortlesly, even if it is with very short notice. Very good bunny hop or something more to it? Any tips?

Just think outside the box, always be looking for off hits and little features. Be creative. That’s to me what makes and defines a riders style.

i like the biking raids there is good path to ride
Cracked my Norco sight and 2 rims in a week in Whistler. While my 2015 Scott Gambler has 200-250 bikepark days in Whistler, Chatel, Morzine, Verbier, Les Gets and Champery. You need a DH bike if you ride 15+ days a year in a bikepark, especially in the Alps where it is rough and way more technical than Whistrelia.
I always find it hilarious when you check your brakes, because the speed makes it seem like you never, ever even touch the levers.
how did you get trough those trees at 13:28 i was sure you gonna crash 😂
So impressed with the speed, I'd probably ride the brake around every corner.
The main reason I'd like a DH bike is for durability. Most of my riding is lift assisted these days as I don't have much time to ride and that is the best way to get a lot of riding into 2 hours. I still want to the ability to pedal my bike and can't justify a second MTB, so enduro bike it is.
wow i thought the tracks on riders republic were annoying with the trees everywhere but there were so many trees there and they were so close to the tiny track
That guy got paralyzed from neck down and still got back to downhill biking. Damn. that true love of cycling
Whistler.. oh a boy can dream 🤤
In my down hill days I feather the breaks snubs little speed to check.
there should be a movie about him because i think he should represent the mountenbike willpower. im 15 years old and crashed 6weeks ago and broke my shoulder, today i went riding again and man i missed it. i dont now if its good english because im from belguim ;) keep up the vids really love them.

@PatrikLindgren
2 жыл бұрын
At 27 You are still young, lots of time to get better. Loads of years left, millions of trails to try. 😊 Im 49 and rode a lot in my younger years, life came along and i had a loooong break and started biking again two years ago. Best decision ever, great training/workout AND incredibly fun at the same time. I bomb down the trails, inside my limits of course, and there is always a huge smile on my face. Just do it as the old Nike commercial says. 😁
can you make a video at perry hill when you get back?
Sick. What size do you ride Phil?
@SkillsWithPhil
2 жыл бұрын
Medium. The only bike i have thats a large is my ebike.
What tire pressure do you run? Do you run Cush core?
Your ability to go rogue and dice through trees is incredible.
If I could afford a whole quiver of bikes I'd own a DH bike. If you can only afford a couple then a DH bike would be a fairly low priority (for me anyway). I currently have a DJ bike and a LT enduro bike (Nukeproof Giga). My next purchase will be a trail bike, then maybe an eMTB.TBF a DH bike does figure above a road bike, but only just... EDIT: I bought the DJ bike for urban riding in London, where I live most of the time, the enduro bike gets taken to UK bike parks and to the Alps, Chamonix and the Portes Du Soleil area where I used to live until BREXIT. That means riding local off-road trails (Surrey, south of London) I'm often under-biked on the DJ or over-biked on the Giga, hence why a trail bike is next...
I miss my old GT LOBO.
I have to say I'd feel more comfortable if the formerly paralyzed dude was wearing some sort of neck brace. Just a the old donut collar saved my dad from being fully paralyzed and the current neck braces are so light and low profile the rewards far outweigh any cons from wearing one.
What's up with not taking down the bar in the lifts in the US?
