    Rediscovered this video. Really rings true. I DNFd last year's SDW 50. Saddlescomb aid station put me back together and got me back out. They were excellent. Unfortunately by then I'd run out of time and timed out at the next checkpoint. Thanks Stephen.

    Hi Stephen - If it helps at all your videos inspired me to take the plunge and actually enter an Ultra. I then injured myself.....sore point.....but I will for sure be on the start line at some point. Your positive approach and entertaining outlook on your races is enjoyable to watch and always puts a smile on my face. I hope this one little disappointment doesn't cloud the positive impact you have through your channel to those of us that currently only dream of 70 plus miles.

    Great listen mate. I saw your yesterday. I bailed out at 65, my body was broken. I couldn’t go on. 100 miles is a different game. I’ve humbled myself. And I will do it next time I’ve learned so much thankyou for being so Honest

    Terrific effort, though, Stephen. 123km? Pretty fine. And some days, you've got it; some days, you don't. Don't forget knees can be fickle and tummies can be just as temperamental. Great video. Very honest and human.

    You are an inspiration Stephen. I only started running lately and your videos helped a lot thank you. Interestingly, during my first race, a 20miler in Marlborough, I drank Red Bull, which made me feel sick the whole way. The next race I didn't drink it and didn't feel sick. Personally, I'm done with it. However, Red Bull sponsored athlete and winner of the Western States 100 Ryan Sandes says he waters down his energy drink, perhaps suggesting it's too concentrated for direct consumption when running. Hope you recover soon and thank you again for sharing how its done.

    I tried doing the SDW 50 a few years ago and I came last. Those last few hills before Eastbourne are really horrible. I also went to those dark places as well. Thanks for being honest about when things don't go according to plan.

    i've not been running long enough to comment on any nutrition or technicalities, but you have been doing a LOT of races lately, yes? I've seen too many people not agree with red bull, lucozade etc. Enjoy the running!

    What I've found is that I do get on well with Coke or Red Bull as long as I don't go overboard on it. I can't do gels at all but I do often need a quick glycogen fix.

    there was no point hobbling 20 miles to get to the end by 30 hours mate, you'd already completed it quicker and risk of further damage too high. I know what you mean about downhill, I've suffered ever since Madeira, never run so far downhill in one go, 12km

    Yea, you're right, I know. It would have simply been to try and be the big guy and that's pointless.
