As thick as these books are, they are SO easy to fly through, and the shorter chapters help with that. I've said it a million times but I just love John Gwynne and I can't wait to get deeper into the series. They are just so readable!

I remember walking into a bookstore looking for something to read and I saw The Faithful and the Fallen and bought all four books. I read them in about two weeks and fell in love almost instantly. That was about three years ago, and I’ve reread them three times. The characters in this series are written to perfection, and this series got me out of a three year long reading slump and I’m so thankful for that.

If you have a book collecting problem then I am beyond help. I'm one of those who won't read a series until all the books are out, with some notable exceptions like Harry Potter and the Cosmere books. Sometimes it can bite me if I end up not liking the series but that doesn't happen often. I've had the first 3 of this series on my nook since they came out. Now I want to read them next because of you reading it. I just don't really like reading e-books. Recently, I felt a void and a desire to read some fantasy novels again. I did a search on KZread and stumbled upon your channel as well a Petrik (and have subscribed to them both). I took your advice and read the First Law Trilogy...I loved it. I loved it so much that I had to figure out what to read next (I feel like I'm so behind) ... based on this video, as well as Petrik's recommendation, I have purchased the complete series for the Faithful and the Fallen. I also have 18 books (mostly book 1 of a series) in my Amazon Wishlist based upon your praise and enthusiasm. Thank you again.

I love Sanderson for defending tropes. Everything can be done well, and still enjoyable. There's a con where Abercrombie and him speak about Heroes, and Sanderson does defend his point of view of wanting to root for a hero ...how to put it, still doing the right thing, for the good reasons- and not being boring.

I finished the F&F about 4 weeks ago. Fast paced and fun. 8.5 out of 10. It would be higher except for a pet peeve of mine that became more prevalent in the last book. Won't go into details as to avoid spoilers and since my peeve is unlikely to bother many others :) Definitely recommend the series to all.

I'm about 4/5 of the way through. I like that it is easy to read though wasn't best pleased about the cliffhanger chapter, but you are right, the next chapter was interesting, as is the story, so that you soon forget that cliffhanger. Listening to you, I did think 'ah' when you mentioned David Gemmel but (because I just looked it up) I was getting him confused with David Eddiings. I have read David Gemmel but, to be honest, I remember more of the David Edding's books that I have read. It will be interesting to see whether, twenty odd years down the line, I will remember John Gwynne's stories as well. Guess, I'll get an idea of that as I carry on reading, as I plan to. Thanks for an interesting video, Mike & apologies for this slightly confusing comment.

I just finished book 4. Its fantastic I recommend it. It starts with a prophecy foretold that the ancient war is coming back. Kings, gods, demons, chosen-one plus some crazy characters. Some few scenes reminded me of LOTR, then I understood why when the author mentioned in one of his books that he was motivated by the 'The Two Towers'. My favorite characters are Maquin and Veradis.

I definitely think he is my new favorite fantasy author. His books are incredibly readable and have a momentum that keeps you hooks. They have everything you want in an action fantasy book and none of the stuff you dont. After reading 7 Joe Abercrombie books i thought he would be my favorite, but even his books have a lot of things i dont like, namely cringy sex scenes that dont need to exist. But I dont thing there has been a single chapter of a Gwynn book i just hated reading.
