Why I bought my (used) 2016 ND1 Miata... And why I LOVE IT!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

This is my Miata! I bought it used for 20K with 26,000 miles out the door. You can't get a better car for the money! That is, if you're into what it's good at.

Sway bars are the single best mod for handling IMO. Add coil over shocks even inexpensive ones like MeisterR ZetaCRD for less than $1k and it takes this car to the next level. Just rails!

Never driven an ND yet. I'm about to pull the plug on a used 2017 Club with 13k miles on it. Jet black with the brembo package. I'm so looking forward to it. It will be my third Miata. Been driving them as a daily since 2003. I'll probably upgrade the suspension and add a Fab9 tune then call it a day. Oh and I'll probably change out the Bose Amp to a aftgermarket 4 ohms camp with MB Quart 90's 6.5" drivers - I'm old school.

Just bought a used one myself (arrives in 2 days), 2018, £13,900 (approx $19,000) with 18k miles, seems there's actually something that's a bit cheaper in the UK for a change! I got the black, seems to be a rare choice but I really like it with the new aggressive lights :) So, hope to be also having similar fun at the end of the week! Thanks for the vid in the meantime :)

@@redliningredhead4467 you never say (and maybe I missed it) what year car you bought. At @0:50 you say a "new car" but it isn't based on the price you quote and HP you cite (the rating you use is ND1 not ND2). So you need to be more specific when giving information if you want your videos to catch on. Poor Jocko now thinks you are paying this much for a 2020/2021 model

Hey I’m between deciding a used ND2 Miata or Veloster N. Thoughts? I don’t need tons of space and the Miata can work for my life. However, I’m in MD and will probably consider the RF. Also, just subscribed :)

Thanks for the sub! And the Veloster N looks really cool. I must say, I am biased towards rear wheel drive cars, I love the way they drive. I haven’t driven the Veloster, but from the review I read it looks like a blast too. But, with the Miata weighing about 1000 pounds less, I can say it feels so nimble, and seriously one of the most fun cars I’ve ever driven. You have a tough choice! But I’d say drive them both and lemme know what you think, good luck!

@@redliningredhead4467 Thanks man, we’ll see. I also have the upcoming 2022 BRZ in mind but I was thinking ND2 Miata because it’s been out since 2016 and Mazda has done refinements to the car, while the 2022 BRZ will be the first model year of a new car which may have issues (same way a 2013 BRZ/FR-S is to be avoided). I also read of the early 2016/2017 ND Miata’s having transmission issues- also the Miata will still be a lighter car than the 2022 BRZ at the end of the day. Not to mention it’s a convertible :)

Thought i'd share some experience having experience in a hothatch and a miata. I have a FBO mk6 GTI and recently got an NB2 miata last year (i'd say they're both similar to what you're looking into between). If you can get 2 vehicles, i'd say buy a veloster N as a daily and an NA/NB miata for the fun. (You get 80% of the fun in an NA/NB for 1/10th cost of an ND2) If I had to choose one as a daily, I would 100% choose a veloster N. I had a part of the summer last year where I would daily my miata everyday and it just wasn't the same when I HAD to drive the miata vs. wanting to drive it on a good day.

What are the best curvy roads in socal? Michlin Pilot Sport 4S good sh. Stock BBS 225/45-17 rear tires. I got the Edlebrock. Wonder how a V8 swap would be like.

Oh how is the Edlebrock kit?? I’d be interested in either supercharging or to turbo mine eventually. And for canyons in SoCal there is Piuma, mulholland, decker, which are in LA county/Ventura area. But if you drive along PCH around Malibu, you’ll find a lot of beautiful canyons that lead there.

@@redliningredhead4467 I had 93 rx7 and 09 mazdaspeed3. I wanted to try the supercharger out. Its is good but I am sure the turbo is better. I need 225s in the rear to minimize spin during launch. I was thinking about buying general gmax rs but I know they not gonna be as good as my current set up. I was also considering 215 in the front but I think the steering would be heavy or sloppy. Trade offs for traction vs handling. Everything is a trade off on the Miata when modifying. I installed the supercharger without upgrading the bilstein. Was super sloppy when doing highway pulls.

Yeah you need all the grip you can get! If I were to go with forced induction, the I’d probably get a turbo... but I’d need a few more subscribers for the 😉 haha but hopefully I’ll be able to test it out on mine eventually!

@@redliningredhead4467 If you come further inland the roads up to the forest (San Gabriel Canyon Road, Glendora Mountain Road, Chantry Flat Rd.) are great, and then there's Carbon Canyon Rd. which is just a nice easy drive. But let's be honest... it's a convertible so it belongs on PCH.

do yourself a favor and pair the new exhaust with a 'soundpipe delete'. that thing is pretty dumb. if you do want some bolder induction noise, then consider a CAI, but the OEM soundpipe isn't a worthy facsimile. I've got the super lightweight Goodwin Race exhaust, and love it.

@@redliningredhead4467 yes the OFT tune, at the milder Stage 1 setting for our CA fuel. Overall satisfied with it; zero sacrifice with driveability. Nice to have the extra 500 rpms to play with too, although as you know, this ND1 motor doesn't exactly 'love' being at those highest revs from a smoothness standpoint.
