Why I Became a PA & Undergrad Experience

Why should you become a PA (Physician Assistant)? I share a few of my thoughts on how I came to that decision and some of my undergraduate experiences towards setting myself up for the PA profession.
I personally knew I wasn't into nursing nor did I want to become a physician. I saw the PA profession as a way to practice medicine to a high degree all while enjoying my life outside of medicine. It also allowed me to be well compensated for my efforts, something I discuss about in my video on quitting EMS: • QUIT EMS - 3 Reasons w...
Guys, liking the video helps out my channel immensely. And consider subscribing if you want more pre-PA or Physician Assistant related content. It means a lot.
Thank you have a great day.

I love your attitude and this video! I love the PA profession too, and you pretty much summed up my reasons for wanting to be one. I will be watching the rest of your videos soon ((:

Damn, after researching what PA's do and watching this video, I'm for real inspired to actually really consider this... your story in college sounds a whole lot like mine so far. Thanks so much for the video man :) - A current psych major

My current favorite channel during winter break. I’m a respiratory therapist working on my prerequisites this year to apply to PA school. 6 children, heavy science classes, and a pandemic have been a challenge for sure! My GPA is on the lower end (thanks to respiratory school and 200+ credit hours even plenty of A’s aren’t going to make much of a difference). You hit the nail on the head when you hit the high points of the PA profession. I want to expand my scope of practice and be able to make a positive difference for the people in my community. Keep doing your thing!

I’m also a RT with almost 5 years experience and just went back to finish my bachelors in health science. I also volunteered while I was in respiratory school at a hospital. Luckily I did well in my associates program and got a 3.7 and I’m losses because at the moment I have 4 As and 2 C+’s with 3 terms to go and 4 more prerequisites. Getting nervous about these grades

Great video. I appreciate the information. I graduated with a B.A. in Business Management. As I was in school, I took a great interest in medical. I met with a few medical professionals and figured that becoming a P.A. would be the best route for me. I am excited! I am returning to Uni for a B.A. in Human Bio. I will be looking forward to your videos for inspiration & encouragement. 😄

Did you get into PA school your first year out of college? I’m a senior in high school starting college for health sciences/pre-pa in the fall, but I’ll be a sophomore because I have a good amount of dual enrollment credits. I’ll be taking EMT courses this summer, but I feel like graduating in 3 years is putting me behind because I won’t be able to accumulate 2000+ hours before I would start applying to pa school. Also, do have any tips on what I should focus on right now to better myself for PA school?

It may take some time to get your prerequisites in order but certainly doable! Just on Reddit someone posted how 11 years ago they wanted to be a PA and finally passed the PANCE. I wish I spoke Spanish well cause that would help with patients I'm seeing

I had 1,600 hours of direct patient care. Having a high GPA isn't a golden ticket - extracurricular activities or your background will help you stand out. I was in orchestra for 13 years, lived abroad, and did a medical mission trip for example. I am a first generation American. Others excelled at sports. Some had their own research to showcase. Others had rave reviews from coworkers or healthcare providers. Some were from very disadvantaged backgrounds and wanted to return to their communities to provide medical care. These are just a few examples.

I’m actually applying to grad schools right now for an ER PA program, but for the longest time I’ve been on the fence about just going to med school. Do you know any PAs that have been able to get back into medical school and become doctors if they change their minds?

Also you mentioned PAs don’t go on call, but I thought that ER doctors don’t go on call either. Is that untrue or does it depend on the facility?

What’s a good direct patient care experience? I shadowed a CNA and honestly I have no interest in that field. Maybe this is the reason why I avoided to be a nurse in the first place. I am thinking about taking phlebotomy course to be a phlebotomist or emt with emt-b training.
