"The Last Jedi" was a really big eye opener for me. Having Luke Skywalker declare that the Jedi and Sith are more or less the same, one movie after the bad guys blow up 5 planets eliminating billions of people, was a huge step back for me. I felt the hollowness of Moral Relativism staring me in the face, almost daring me to wake up.

If the dark side is a metaphor for the Jungian shadow then the jedi are wrong because no matter how hard you suppress or bury it the thing is bound to eventually erupt onto the surface. The sith are also wrong because no matter how hard you identify with or embrace the thing it's still going to tear you to pieces and eat you alive. The jedi and the sith are the same only in the sense that both of their approaches to the dark side are doomed to failure. Beyond that specific angle, however, the arguement is nonsense, but like all ideology the arguement relies on that small hovel of truth in order to build a city of lies around it.

This is why The Critical Drinker has gained so much popularity recently.

Jonathan, if you can succeed in getting a hold of him, you might consider further exploration of this topic with Orson Scott Card. He's wrestled a lot with this issue, and, in my estimation, overcome it. It's a topic that, unless the industry changes something, is only going to increase in relevance...

I would love to read those plays by Jonathan. Can we get a spy into his household to retrieve them maybe?

0:50 wasn't Dr strange suppose to inherit a mantle of responsibility from the ancient one, essentially a sacred traditional role akin to a guardian father for his people, sound familiar?

I deeply recommend Asha Logos channel. His last video is only found on Odysee. Also Robert Sepehr's work is the real deal, unleashed real anthropology and spirituality without biased limits.

hard disagree on a couple of points here there's this implication that because pol. propoogalaa is "purpose driven" and all stories are "purpose driven" therefore pol. propoogalaa is not uniquely detrimental to storytelling it is pol. propoogalaa is necessarily shallow. I'm not talking about art that has pol. impact, which is arguably all art (indeed in any pol. conflict the simple truth is going to benefit one side more than the other). I'm talking about art purpose created to drive a pol. message. Pol. is the realm of real, explicit policies that benefit one group at the expense of another. Art is the realm of reaching out into the unknown, where things are intuitive, at the very tips of your fingers, not graspable, not explicit. The great artist is able to somehow manipulate those ideas and communicate a simplified embodiment of them, without dumbing them down . Pol. cannot do this, no exceptions, and to the extent artistic decision are made with ulterior pol. motive, that piece of art will be worse , no exceptions. anyone with artistic insight understands this, and the ambiguity of the discussion around this topic is insane, especially among people who talk about art "professionally" (but can't create anything worthwhile themselves, because they actually have no artistic understanding of art, only a historical or sociological understanding) second, say what you will about Hollywood, the logistics of creating a film at the levels they create are mind boggling. Yes the end product is often hampered by appeal to the lowest common denominator, marketing, pol., and so on, but the sheer organisation of highly technically skilled, specialised craftsmen is unparalleled. The best in Hollywood aren't one-in-a-million, they're one-in-one-hundred-million, and that's over 100 some odd specialized roles needed to make a movie. Like it or not, films are our modern day equivalent of the great cathedrals in terms of organisation of artisans and beauty. There is only one, single way you end up with an operation functioning on this level (you know what it is), straying from that will result in a dramatic decrease in quality (from the very best to the pretty good is a much bigger drop off than from the pretty good to the mediocre). No exceptions. These are things that if we claim to care about art or beauty we should not wiggle on or budge an inch.
