I k ow some fans are impatient, but for me, I’m fine with whatever growth from within comes from Caufield-Suzuki-Slaf another year older and together, Dach being back, Newhook for a full season (hopefully) and a blue line with Matheson, Guhle, Savard, Hutson, Xhekaj, Harris, Barron and maybe Mailloux. The FAs this year were weak and way too expensive, plus it’s not time yet to spend.

Tony, you pleaded for a rebuild for years. Now that there is one, you suggest Habs sign a non-impact player like Sprong, aged 27? This will not speed up the rebuild. My reasons:- 1- Habs roster would increase to 14 forwards. Therefore Roy is sent down as the only 2 forwards waiver exempt are him and Slaf. 2- Dvo, Armia, Pezz & Evans (debatable whether Habs resign given Beck, Kapanen & Hage could be ready for 2025/26 season) will be pending UFAs so must play to maximize value by trade deadline. 3- Anderson has to play to have a bounce back season and then trade. Gally won't be benched. Therefore best way to proceed is as Eric suggested, by trade. This should help clear the logjam, whether at forward or on defense. Suggest one more year of patience and take it from there.

I remember being in the Montreal Airport back in the Mid 90's and two guys that worked there were on Lunch break , I just happened to be at the Table next to them having a Coffee and they spent their entire lunch break telling Shayne Corson stories . All I can say , is if 25% of them were True , then Corson is lucky to still be alive or not in Prison , lol . Crazy Dude , oh how the times have changed ...lol

Before I even watch the video, answer is simple. He's waiting on Laine's clearance. He is the cheapest to acquire, and just like Monahan, a gamble with low risks and high rewards possibilities. He is costly for 2 years, but we can afford it. He is in the age range we want. If he blows a tire, in 2 years he's gone and we get 8.5M to spend on someone else. If a la Monahan, he gets good again, then we win big time.

I get what Erik is trying to say when he talks about bringing in a bottom 6 forward like Sprong, but let's say if the Canadiens were to try to bring in a bottom 6 forward like Duclair then that would be a great move because he could play a top 6 forward role occasionally at times and the reason why I brought him up also is because he's another player from Quebec. Bringing in for example forwards like Duclair could help the Canadiens a lot but of course the Canadiens need a true top 6 forward in their line up right now and that's the hard piece to get. And another thing too, I always thought the Canadiens had too many bottom 6 forwards and so why add more.

Why would you want the Habs to be "marginally" better? That is a ridiculous statement. To become "marginally" better would come at a cost (unless the loss is one of our remaining bad contracts). I would much rather see Huges/St Louis try to put Gally, Armi and Anderson in situations that favor their numbers then trade them at the deadline with some retention.

Eric has No problem having Anderson evans and rhp in the bottom six producing 58p in total but says no to sprong having 43p moving up and down in the lineup is funny, how is having the same players there this season knowing they won’t produce instead of signing secondary scoring cheap to help something they always need because they’ve been bottom 10 in scoring every season since they went all the way to SCF… Why even ask him questions about the team?

  • @jbunit2

We can't get rid of Anderson at the moment. We have too many guys in the bottom 6 right now. If we sign an additional player it will be for the top 6. If we get a guy like Necas, Laine, Zegras, Perfetti or whatever, It's easy to push Anderson to the bottom 6 for the whole season where he'll be in a more comfortable chair. If you add Sprong, you're stuck with less room on the roster, in the bottom 6 and no room for the youngsters who may be ready to fill that role just as well for cheaper if not more efficiently. I don't understand why people would want to add a type of player we already have. If we could buyout or trade Anderson and/or Gallagher that would be a different conversation.

Most importantly Sprong doesn't play defense. Montreal is building a team culture, throwing in a player that doesn't play a team game(doesn't play defense) is not what they should be interested in.

@@jbunit2 Agree that Anderson can’t be moved but there are others like dvo, evans, rhp that can be and no one of those players can produce like sprong. He wouldn’t be a replacement for zegras, Necas etc, but those players are the ones you trade for the top6 and guys like sprong is to have a good top9 instead of having guys like pez and rhp in the lineup who just do cardio every game.

@@Erik-ms3du but you don’t build a team with players who all are the same, Montreal needs secondary scoring and if you play him with players who plays good defense that wouldn’t be a problem, you need the bottom six to produce points too and we can’t have 2 fourth lines if they wanna be a better team, good teams score more.

@@JonasJ-.- bottom six players need to play defense, that is a reality in the NHL. That is the reason why he has not been signed and will probably end up on a pto. Nothing you said addresses the fact that Montreal doesn't need players that don't play a team game. I agree their bottom six needs a retool, Sprong is not the answer though.
