I can definitely understand, the importance of sapphire is a big deal breaker for a lot of enthusiasts I’d say for sure! Same reason why I get so upset seeing Seiko use hardlex on $400+ presage watches and such.

Thanks David; great review with impressive details while covering all the key issues that most watch enthusiasts care about as well. I think I would have to go with the Pagani (though somewhat reluctantly), for the sapphire crystal, and a better looking, more accurate movement that I have more confidence in overall. Your video is really good and your macro shots are more than just eye candy. They're really practical and helped me decide to take a chance on a brand I hadn't heard of. There are a couple of details that make the Holuns a better choice for me. One is the clasp. I have a different Pagani Design watch in front of me, right now, that I am about to fit with a glide lock stye replacement clasp. If you like wearing your bracelets a bit snug being able to dial in the perfect fit without tools is a game changer. The other detail, the hands. The hands on the Holuns have a much better finish and they have slightly curved features that allow them to catch light at off angles better than the relatively flat hands on the Pagani. To me, that's why they are easier to read. Cheers!

Good comparison video and greatly appreciated as nothing else to review the Holuns and after watching this I went for the holuns model as it just has the edge on features and small details that matter the most .

I played the home game along with you, and honestly found myself liking both sets more than my Pepsi Heritor. That said, I think the Holuns is the winner as well. That cyclops is hard to look past all by itself

Really appreciate this review, helps with the Christmas decision! Edit: I've heard alot of reviews say the Pagani metal is very sharp, some recommend sanding the finished yourself in order to make it a comfortable daily wear. What would you recommend to use in order to sand it down with most smoothness?

Only ever purchased one Pagani and it was the GMT and it was utter garbage and the finishing was awful. I like the look of the Holluns here and a Sapphire glass does not bother me because i wear my watches with care whether it's a £50 or a £500 watch. The Holluns here is definitely the nicer watch and i might look at getting one, certainly wouldn't ever buy a Pagani again plus their customer services were rude and unhelpful. Nice video.

Well the GMT hand, bezel’s insert color, date wheel and center links looks a bit better on the PD but nice alternative.

i just bought the PD 1661 hulk ... its solid watch i really love the build not everyone can afford rolex but this PD gave the feeling on it

The Holuns having the words "Superlative Chronometer Officially Certified" is a bit much for me. I don't mind watches that serve as homages to the Rolex - and honestly like them as a way for us watch buyers to try out different styles without breaking the bank. But there's no need for any brand to straight up lie on the dial like that.

I would definitely give the holuns a chance because of two reasons: first much better cyclops it actually looks proper the pagani is just never executed that good and I have a bunch of paganis lol…,.second reason is the clasp and the ease of adjusting. Paganis simply suck with their Rolex style clasps for that.

Nice, yeah I think Holuns gets overlooked but for me, the finishing, the clasp, and legibility are what do it for me. 😎👍

The winner for me would be the one that came with the Seiko nh34 movement! :)

I have the Pagani - it's superb, and fantastic value. But the Holuns look nicer! Aaaargh!

I’m into accuracy and look. Pagani looks more premium to me. And I kinda love display caseback

I have had 2 of the Pagani Pepsi models you reviewed here. Both the original I purchased and it’s subsequent replacement through Amazon had severe QC issues with the crown thread. I have many watches with screw down crowns but these I found slowly deteriorated over the course of a few months until they eventually become unusable. Maybe they were from a bad batch, which is a shame because the watch looked and ran amazing. Thanks for posting this, I’ve had the Holuns in my “to get” list and after seeing this I’m sure it would make a suitable replacement to the Pagani. The slide adjustment on the bracelet, all brushed watchband, the engraving on the rehaut and potentially better screw down crown QC - too many improvements to not give it a shot.

@@DavidSchwartzjr I recently had two others at once stolen from my mailbox, I suspect it might have been the carrier. She knew what was in them from a previous problem where I recovered that one.

I feel like you were extremely generous with the scoring on the PD bracelet and clasp. I've got the Daytona homage they make, and the bracelet squeaks and the clasp has sharp edges than I've actually scratched myself with before. Solid end links and links with screw pins, but it's still garbage.

Like pretty much ALL of PD's bracelets! This brand is very hit and miss, and their prices have been creeping up regularly with no corresponding increase in quality. Having said that, there are still some bargains to be had.

Great video Dave! I own the pagani and I love it!!! I think it’s fantastic, never heard of the holuns quite similar, love the glide lock on the holuns and the cyclops too, pagani claps and cyclops aren’t too good. Suprised about the pagani bezel, I have had zero issues with the 2021 and newer bezels they have all been great for me. Fantastic comparison man!

The Pagani is also available with the Seiko NH35 calibre - I'm surprised you didn't choose that version for the comparison..

I've owned 2 pagani GMTs...and now 2 Steinhart's. From your review and my experience the Holuns is my choice. The issue is the SPD is bad, but that may just be your piece .

I've had a Steinhart GMT Pepsi for three years and the truth is that Steinhart's are much better than either of these two. For starters, they have a 24-jewel Swiss movement and real sapphire crystal. The only thing I don't like is that it is significantly larger than the Rolex which is 40mm. The Steinhart is 45mm in diameter. They now make them in 40mm Rolex size as well. Obviously, the price difference makes a difference in every way. The GMT Steinhart Pepsi cost $650.

Pagani all day, it has the best specs and has updated to NH35. The Holuns from what I can find only has 50 meters water resistance, and unknown movement.

bought the batman and the pepsi version to test if it’s better than pagani.. both watches keep dying even if it’s on my wrist. have to wind both watches everyday. the batman version stopped working after 3 days. the watch has a defective movement!!! sure, the holuns looks much closer to the original but that’s about it! pagani is a better built watch!

Woah! That is a huge problem! Didn’t have that experience personally but I know there can be QC issues with a lot of these Chinese made brands. Thanks for sharing your experience so others can be aware of that too!

I have a Phylida Pepsi and I like it more then the Pagani that I also have. The Holuns Pepsi seems to be sold out.

The Holuns is more impressive to me and the price is right. The Pagani falls short next to the Holuns.

I have a real Rolex 16710. These two watches have GMT hands that are off! It is very noticeable. They are useless if those hands are off. I even bought the Holuns and it too was off. Did you see it when reviewing these two homages?

When I look at the balance bridge in the Holuns watch, it probably has a Mingzhu DG 2813 installed.

It actually seems to be an older version of MingZhu 3804 4-hand GMT with the same balance bridge as DG2813 and is quite rare. (Something like a kind of DG2813 version, simular like Seiko (TMI) NH35a and NH34a)

Does the new 2023 pagani Pepsi have a ceramic bezel? I know the ones before were aluminium -only the Batman and all black were ceramic as far as I know?

I would take the Pagani but I would swap out the clasp because I HATE that clasp design.

Date magnification on the Hollins watch is nothing like Rolex...in this regard the Pagani is much closer.

I bought the coke bezel version off the Holuns pretty bored with Pepsi look but I never got the GMT instructions sheet just that booklet

Ive only started collecting watches. Pepsi watches do look cool, but the downside, for me anyways, is just about everyone makes their own version of that design. So Id feel its more of a bandwagon purchase than anything else

Pagani Design makes pretty good homage watches but their wrist straps are just so terrible due to how sharp and hair pulling it is that I need to buy new strap ..

Could you compare it again with the new NH34 A movement of Pagani design

'Mingzu' is 'pearl' in chinese. So they are same name.😅 I prefer Holund for its appearance.

For me, it's the Holuns based on the crown feel and legible date. The Pagani just felt a bit more compromised though an actual sapphire crystal as advertised is better. Kind of hard to let Holuns fly with false advertising but then again, it's a cheap copycat anyway so they are both false advertising from 10' away haha

Holuns looks more Authentic, but the Pagani is Better Built with Seiko Movement & Saphire Glass! I like the look of the Holuns Better, but would be buying the Pagani! -Cheers👍

If those watch channels banned and deleted my comments, imagine how many other accounts they have banned in addition... When the censorship watch channels have under 1000 subscribers, they welcome anyone's comments... It's when they have over 1000 subscribers they are out banning and deleting comments... It just shows me that they must buy their subscribers... I don't know how they can survive being so fake and false in their must be miserable lives... I think they do more harm than good to the watch community... There are tons of topics a viewer can put their interest in... Censorship watch channels will turn people away from watches more than anything... It also turns honest channels away from the hobby too I believe... Honest watch channels must be frustrated trying to post content amongst all the censorship watch channels and fake watch channels... What do you think?

But at the end of it all, the money spent is massive and the return is minimal. I personally don't understand it, and I think it does create a negative experience when someone wants to give their opinion but gets blocked and comments removed...unreal.

I have the pagani Gmt. I owned a rolex 16700 for 17 yrs and had to sell it as it rose in price. The pagani keeps time as well as my old rolex but the bracelet and case doesn't feel the same. It still good quality for the money.i love the brand

On the Pagani Design yes it is ceramic, but on the Holuns it is an aluminum bezel insert. At least the one that I received it is aluminum so its possible they have a mix of some with ceramic and some without, but assume if you order one it will have aluminum.

The only thing that really matter is … is the movement a piece of crap? So many of these watches look fine but totally phone it in with that goofy ‘Pearl’ movement.

Have you seen the Mathey-Tissot GMT with Pepsi Bezel?

There are tons of these homage watches and I was eyeballing the Benyar which, I think, is affiliated with Pagani Design? I like the Holuns though.

I own a 1974 rolex datejust and a holuns daydate plus a cartier santos. I just bought the holuns gmt Pepsi. In my opinion and from my experience the holuns preforms just as good as the rolex and preforms better then the cartier. Holuns watchs are good quality for the money, better than an invicta or seiko.

I don't like either. If I'm going for a Chinese homage, I'll spend a little more for a Cronos or San Martin. The cyclops on the Pagani is an ugly blemish. If the Holuns came with a sapphire crystal and ceramic bezel, they'd have a real contender on their hands.

Easy enough to adjust and regulate and change to sapphire glass

I would advise anyone buying a Pagani Design watch to buy it from Amazon rather than PD themselves. I bought two; I got the Pepsi like the one in this video from PD in China, and I also got the Batman from Amazon. Both were faulty and needed to be returned. The Batman didn't hack properly. The second hand usually wouldn't stop when the crown was pulled out, and even when it did, it would start moving again while I was trying to set the time. Because I bought it from Amazon, I was able to return it without incident. The Pepsi looked like it had been polished by a blind monkey, and was running several minutes fast. I still have the Pepsi, because it is basically impossible to return the watch to a Chinese seller. I tried to get my money back via the payment method I used (paypal maybe? It was a while ago and I forget), but PD gave me the usual runaround of making me take videos of the watch etc, and I eventually just gave up. I'm looking at the Pepsi now. I could probably get it regulated to at least tell time properly, but the polishing of the case is so awful I can't stand to look at it. The way the lugs are brushed makes the case look deformed, and all the corners are rounded over. Basically, what I am trying to say is that there is a good chance you're going to get a bad one, so pay the little extra to buy from Amazon so you can actually get your money back if there's a problem.
