    I was blindsided by this when I saw it earlier. I've been a harsh critic of him, but he had managed to turn things around and get us into the position we should've been through most of the second half, and especially the end of the season. He'd earned the right to continue and push further next year. This board are an absolute circus and will end up sinking the club if they keep on the same trajectory. They asked us to trust the process and they cant even trust it themselves. Also confirms that they're going to go out of their way to sell Gallagher and Chalobah, and just make life way more difficult for homegrown rules and have to pay through the nose for some other random player to fill the numbers because of "pure profit". As for a replacement, De Zerbi will be entirely wrong. He was proven to be a fraud this year and will only end up in the same position 6 months down the line. He's West Ham level. Frank, Maresca and the other names thrown out there also aren't good enough. McKenna has potential, but again needs time. The only options I'm keen for would be Tuchel, Amorim or maybe Hoeness at a stretch.

  • @FinsburyPhil
    @FinsburyPhil29 күн бұрын

    De Zerbi did a great job at Brighton - for one year. His coaching career: Palermo - 3 months Benevento - 1 season (relegated) Sassuolo - 3 seasons (8th place finish) Shakhtar Donetsk - 1 season (ok, there was a war) Ukrainian Super Cup Brighton - great season followed by an indifferent season. If the Chelsea owners and management think that this is their man, then the situation is as bad as we all hope it is. Then again, it shouldn't be surprising, they thought Graham Potter was their path to glory...

    I think it's harsh to say this was an indifferent season, pretty much all clubs have a league dip when they enter Europe for the first time. Plus there's another inevitable drop off as other teams get to grips with countering De Zerbi ball. I'm not sure he's the man for Chelsea, but it's too early to write this guy off. I can see that Poch is not a bad manager. I can see he had a difficult job. I can see his failures, even during 2024 when we started getting results. We lost 5-0 to Arsenal, we dropped points to Burnley and Sheffield united in winning positions. Unforgivable failures to me but I would’ve been comfortable going into the next season with him. I am pretty confident this wasn’t a “we didn’t get top 4 and trophies, you are gone” thing like we have done for the last two decades. This really feels like a power struggle and Poch understanding he can cut the rope and leave unscathed. He knows he won’t get what he wants so he can just go find that elsewhere. It does send an ugly message though. No continuity and too much derailing all progress at this club. I know there’s a shortage of top managers in the world and we can’t just go get the best in the world like we used to but the idea of hiring a guy managing Ipswich just feels like a massive mistake. I feel like there’s traits that a manager has to have to succeed at Chelsea and I just don’t think a younger manager will have built them yet. This sport has changes a lot in the last two decades. We can’t continue to be the arrogant Chelsea of old, we’re no longer able to just take the best of the best from the best.

    The last month makes this feel like an egregious error but watching Chelsea all season, it was so obvious that we weren’t in a good enough place. “Big club” nonsense is often just that but Chelsea has spent way too much money and has too much talent to struggle as consistently as Chelsea did against lesser competition all season. Games against Burnley, Sheffield, Forest, Luton, and several other low level competition were up for grabs until the final whistle in large part because of Poch’s tactical limitations. Depends on the next hire of course (we shouldn’t be too optimistic that the Americans will get it right) but it is still probably the right decision. A bold decision for sure but probably the right one based on the full season rather than the last 5.

    Its a wrong move for De Zerbi if he goes. Clearly the Chelsea board and owners goals are not winning trophies and competing at the highest level, its making profits in players and the club. You can see it immediately with the signing of a 17 years old for 40m+ while having multiple talents like that lying around without regular gameplay. De Zerbi had similar issues at Brighton with the hierarchy asking him to develop new players so they can sell them for huge profit and not concentrate on winning games only if that means they cannot do the first thing. Best place for de Zerbi would be Man united. He would align very well with the new owners and board like Ashworth, Berrada, Wilcox

Looks like they could not come to an agreement and decided to part ways. IF they go with DeZerbi that is the opposite of a young up and coming manager, someone who is moldable almost. So happy, we deserve this. Been terrible for 9 months but people changed their tune after 5 games, of which we played well for a game and a half where Cucurella inverted to midfield, then straight back to no tactics and got lucky against Brighton, Bournemouth, Forest. Not to mention lucky against United, terrible against Arsenal, couldn't beat relegation sides Sheffield and Burnley. Mentioned by heaps of ex players under Poch about his injury ridden training methods. Lots of mentioned while in France about his lack of tactics and game in management. He put this club in 12th, then got praised for getting them out of the position he put them in by playing everyone out of position, no tactics in build up, attacking flow, defensive style, set piece knowledge, anything what so ever.

    Only based Chelsea fan here. We struggled against Bournemouth on the final day but just because we got lucky Poch is some kind of saviour…. This is the most inconsistent Chelsea side we’ve ever seen, and consistently we would perform worse in the second half after poch spoke to them, hadn’t got a clue either when it came to subs. Been on the poch out train since day 1 and happy he’s gone. He would have bottled the EL league phase next year and has us struggling against fiorentina or olympiacos

    @@colourmegreene6761 100%, all these are spot on, had so many chances all season and waited until January to start implementing any tactics. Could have rotated so much more with academy players for some small game time at least. He was fine for a season to get us back to some stability, but he'd have been sacked by November next season anyway so may as well get in a new coach that can work with team in pre-season. Everyone wanted him out all season, then 10 games where we were average in 8.5 of them, only good against Spurs and 2nd half of Villa and suddenly he's the savior, as you said.

    this is by far the most stpd comment on here. You say he was supposed to start academy players and then achieve what? Was he supposed to line up 11 Alfie Gilcrists and win the league? Your numbers have been solid all season long, you deserved at least 6th which is what you got. You have by far the least experienced team in the league, the youngest and you lead the league in injuries. Was he supposed to win the league with Jackson and Madueke who between them have sub 100 PROFFESIONAL appearances. He got Cucurela playing 3 times as good as the manager who fkin made him at brighton had last season! You went from scoring 38 FKIN goals in the league to 77 which is above Villa and Spurs who have way better attackers than you do. You are not only good the last 5 games. You are 4th since CHRISTMASS, 2 points behind Liverpool in 2024. You had underline numbers of a 5th best team in the league ALL SEASON LONG. Most of predicitons had you outisde the top 6 for sure and then with all the injuries you finish 6th so close to CL spots? You absolutely deserve whats coming and I am really gonna laugh while youre struggling in 12th next season with palmer leaving in summer of 2025 to play CL football elsewhere

How about the 12th up until chirstmas? does the season start in January? If it wasnt for cole palmer we would be around 8-9th at best. Injuries to nkunku and carney made top4 impossible, but there was constant misprofiling of players (chilwell LW fetish). Also lost against liverpool's D team, could have been sacked that evening if we are being real

    @@bxgmxn what difference does it make where were you at the start of the season. If manager starts excellently we usually say new manager bounce cause in reality it takes time for players to gel to new tactics. Not to mention even when you were 12th you had very solid numbers and were either unlucky or didnt finish your chances. Also suddenly a player exploding is not connected to a manager at all? Id say Palmer will be 10-15% worse next season
