Thank you for this video. I just picked up an 03 Electra glide and I’m having second gear issues and the shift forks may be the problem . All the information you’ve presented has helped more than searching on forums. Subscribed and looking forward to more videos.

Yep the trans is pretty simple. There still sliders, if they don't engage all the way they jump out of gear.

Nice explanation .Thanks for the video! My tranny shifts good still ,its always been a pain on the ass putting it into neutral unless you do it on slow roll . Its an 87 FXRS , I replaced the shift linkage ends to get rid of any play there . I ve put the bike in 3 rd gear and the shift pawl seems to have equal play both ways ! Not real worried about it ,just a pain .

Yep as long as I can remember Harley's have always been a bit of a pain in the ass to find neutral. The easiest way is the way you do it, I do the same thing. Thanks for watching

I enjoy your videos! I asked you about rocker lockers. But I forgot you ask wether on my 2002 wide glide wether you can install them right on the bike? Thanks very much

You can install the rocker lockers on the front head with no problem, the rear head you have to remove the rocker platform and install the bushings on the bench. The frame gets in the way on the rear. The way I've pressed them in on the bench is to use a nut and bolt. It draws the bushing in real nice. Than just reinstall the platform on the head. Thanks for the question and thanks for watching.

My 2015 Dyna low rider won’t go into neutral and won’t free up the rear tire. Not sure what’s going on? Any thoughts.

Thanks for the question. I could be any number of things, linkage is binding up or loose. Clutch cable improper adjustment, clutch out of adjustment. If you're rear wheel won't free up when in neutral this could be a possible clutch problem. If clutch plates warp this will cause that condition. Start with the simple stuff and work your way through it. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching

Is there a certain method you use on going about re-installing the shifter cam assembly as far as it pertains to the position of the dogs ?

Thanks for the question. I'm guessing when you say shift cam you're referring to the shift drum. The answer is yes, make sure the trans is in neutral, forks are installed. Shift drum should also be in neutral position. Carefully set the drum down on to the forks making sure they're aligned with there respective slots. You may have to move the forks slightly to align them. Also at the same time aligning the pillow blocks on the trans case. Hope this answers your question. Thanks for watching

Hi sir. I reeeeaaally appreciate your videos. I pulled my transmission because my bike was jumping out of second gear. I found the problem, however, I don’t know the proper name for the ruined part that I have found. Is there a way I could send you a pic? I’m sure you probably know the exact name for it. I could cash app you for any help siir. Thanks a lot for the videos. By the way, I’m dealing with a 1990 5 speed sportster

Hi! Let me say how I appreciate you videos, I find them very useful. I have a question about the mainshaft: What holds it in place? I know there is a nut that holds it to the bearing on the trans door side, but what prevents the mainshaft (and the attached bearing) to sink to the primary side if you hit it with a hammer? I have installed an ELM reverse gear kit and, after removing the nut and screw the reverse gear in place, I had to hit a few hits on there to put in the two pins wich fix the kit gear to the shaft. Now I've found that the shaft (and the bearing) have displaced to the primary side 1/10 of an inch. Can I relocate them by tappering from the primary side, or did I broke something there? Here is a video, you can see now the 1st and 4th gears have not enough space when in N and they engage if you try to push the bike. kzread.info/dash/bejne/YoJ-0sWul9HLd6g.html Thank you for your help and please excuse my poor english.

Thanks for the question and you're English is fine. First let me say I'm not familiar with the reverse gear kits on the newer transmissions. The last reverse gear transmission I worked on was a 3 speed back in the early 70's, so I won't be any help there. To answer you're question the main shaft is held in place by C Clips to hold the gears in place. There is a little travel in the gears on the main and counter shaft so they can slide to engage with each other so the trans can shift gears. I watched the video and it appears there is not enough travel in the gears to engage. If you remove the gears from the main shaft you probably need to go back and check to make sure all the clips and bushings are there. Sorry I can't be more helpful. Thanks for watching and ride safe.

@@tinkeringwithharleys Thanks for your answer. What happens is that my mainshaft has moved. It's a little displaced and what you see in my video is the 1st and the 4th gear in neutral, with not enough space between them. So, even the bike is in N, the gears get locked. I just have seen this video from your channel, were you explain that the mainshaft can be displaced a little to help with the inner race: kzread.info/dash/bejne/f6Sf05qkqrTgY7g.html Will try to relocate it from the primary side. Mine has moved together with the bearing.

The bearing shouldn't have moved at all. The shaft should move through the bearing without displacing it. As I said before I never installed a reverse gear in a modern trans, so I don't know what's involved with the installation. Hope it is just a minor adjustment.
