It become muscle memory after a while for sure. I’ve seen (and have done so myself) wipe out on their dismounts and still salute the judge after painfully getting up because we need to let them know we’re done 😂

Side note, the original gymnastics, by the greeks in the 6th century BC, was used as strength training for war _before_ it became a popular sport in the citizenry. Fascinating how cycles repeat.

@@BearsArms45 You enter the arena through the opening at letter A then you come down the middle till your in the center of the arena. You wait till your horse has stopped moving, and you take your right hand off the reins and slice down through the air while you nod down at the judges 🫶🏻

Same with horsebackriding. We salute the judges, mostly in dressage. Horsebackriding also used to be a militairy sport. We also get points for saluting. If you do it wrong, you can get points taken off

I'm just a little "shocked" right now because of the first salut. He salutes with only his right arm up. In the 2. worldwar this was the greeting of the germans and is nowdays forbidden with legal penalties. It's so crazy for me as a german, to see, that this salut is still used in public, also I know it has nothing to do with the greeting 😳😮

I did fencing, we had to salute/bow to our opponent, coach/judge, and the audience. It’s a symbol of respect, if you are rude, the judge can like the opponent more than you and might give the point to them if you both touched at the same time.

It goes back even further than that. In the military the hand goes up to the eyebrow to salute. This goes back to medieval times when they would rise their visor to go into battle during jousting. It was a sign up sign of respect before you went into battle to look your competitor in the eyes.

😳 Good point! Believe it or not, I' d NEVER thought about it. I swear to Omelianchik and Bogui. That' s my level of dissociation between "the gesture" and our salute. Correct me if I' m wrong but there' s no problem at all in MAG and WAG. Actually, the potentially problematic is only the initial one (with a single arm), after the dismount it' s often done with both.
