Yoel Romero is the best example of an elite wrestler with minimal takedown attempts in MMA

agreed. It's like he is afraid to use his wrestling. He fell in love with striking and never looked back. Hector Lombard too. He never does any Judo in his fights. It's like he is a 100% kickboxer. They both could learn from Karo Parisian.

@@fallenIights It isn't just that, as Danaher says the differences between the sports matter a lot. Wrestling is a very taxing sport with much less time involved. Gaethje has also said he gets too tired when he wrestles offensively. And I guess Romero has a similar problem.

GSP had some serious wrestling experience. Wrestling with the Canadian Olympic team is not to be understated.

He practiced with the Canadian team, he wasnt on it. To be honest Canada is not a wrestling powerhouse in men's wrestling. They rarely make any noise on the international stage. George was just a natural at it.

@@Nesto38 I know he wasn’t on the Canadian Olympic team man, lol!! I said “wrestled with.” They still have legitimate wrestlers. It’s not like some bum could walk on to the team and represent their country. Gia Sissaouri was a legitimate Canadian wrestler in 2000. GSP was on the fighting scene in 2002. @@joonpak yeah, I was reading an article and it said, “St-Pierre said he was training to make the 2008 Olympic team but he was interrupted by a call to fight Matt Hughes at UFC 92 when Matt Serra withdrew due to injury.” I don’t know whether he was wrestling with them or not before then…all I am saying is that Canada has put up legitimate wrestlers-they aren’t scrubs, and if he was training with them, then that ought to count for something. He’s had a solid wrestling experience. Not everyone has access to that kind of level of wrestling and I think it played a role in how well he did in the ufc. Of course, he had all the tools. Great at everything.

I wish john would be more specific. We know he knows, but I want the atoms of GSP's takedowns, hip-pressure etc. I want to know too, intellectually. Because I'll never get to that level, I can't be born again to start a life-long learning of grappling.

It may be because in traditional wrestling chest crackdowns are not used often because you will end up in a 50/50 position on the ground. In MMA it is more effective because fighters are standing up taller and because on the ground jiu jitsu usually rules.

You're absolutely wrong. He retired about a year before. Not only that, he was the most vocal advocate for steroid testing even going so far as to offer independent testing for this fights.. which his opponents turned down. He was one of the greatest voices for getting proper testing in the game. Then you forget... he came back when USADA was well entrenched and moved up a weight class and won the title. Just that alone invalidates what you said. Literally everyone knows GSP is one of the cleanest most highly skilled martial artists ever.
