Why Greta Garbo Disappeared From Hollywood & Her Tragic Ending - Here's Why.
Greta Garbo, born Greta Lovisa Gustafsson on September 18, 1905, was a Swedish-born actress who became one of the most iconic and enigmatic figures in the history of cinema. Renowned for her natural beauty, captivating presence, and remarkable talent, Garbo achieved international fame and adoration during the golden era of Hollywood in the 1920s and 1930s.

I hate the exploitative titles, “her sad ending”. The woman was 84, she died rich and lived to an old age. She chose the way she wanted to live. She stayed away from the limelight and valued her privacy and independence, thus he hated being recognized. That doesn’t mean she was lonely or unhappy.

Well said. She lived (as far as I can see) a full and adventurous life in freedom and independence, had plenty of interesting friends and was loved by many. She experienced all the downsides of living a life of overwhelming fame, glamour. and also Hollywoods darker sides and poisonous and controlling influence on their stars. So for the rest of her life, she cherised her right to live in anonymity, away from spotlight and public prying and violations of her privacy. She was reclaiming control of her life. Nothing sad about that.

@@ingeabrahamsen4684 It was sad for sure, no real love and children, that's no choice and many adored her as I did, but no one realy cared for her, many wanted that, but she was only interested in herself, I am sure!

She had many famous friends, and was a regular guest on Aristotle Onassis's yacht. She never said, "I vant to be alone." That is just a line in GRAND HOTEL. She lived her life as a private person, but that does not mean she was unhappy.

The photograph at approximately 5:00 (is Tallulah Bankhead, not Greta Garbo. The two Actresses looked somewhat alike, especially when they were young. With as many photographs that exist of Greta Garbo, it is hard to believe such a mistake could be made. I always felt they looked alike when younger, which is a complement to Tallulah Bankhead. Every Actress in Hollywood wanted to look like the great Garbo.

No one in Hollywood truly looked like Greta Garbo, but the fan magazines are full of photographs showing how other Actresses tried in vain to in some way capture the "Garbo look"). and none succeeded in doing so although they tried.@@familypondman

Many pronunciation mistakes (and irritating ones at that) in this video. Photograph error. And, you know, still worth cringing through. It astonishes me that the most famous performer of the 1920s, 1930s, and 1940s, the most admired actress and sought after person on earth for decades and decades, is now rarely recognised even by people in the film and theatre worlds. Their loss, although, in fairness, what was cutting edge film making in her time is now as creaky as early television.

She received long term dialysis at a N.Y. hospital an indication of kidney cancer. She owned an entire floor of an East side apt filled with an expensive art collection. At her death it was revealed her fortune was left to a relative with virtually nothing given to a companion who had cared for her for 30 years.

@@LaurenceDay-d2p i no she never said it for real .its the paparazzi people that annoyed her and id say would probably have reclused her not from her friends but from cameras clicking in her face 24 hrs a day. That would annoy me to reclusing myself away from society. But in the acting or singing business you no what your up agenst .so in some ways i dont have sympathy for those people they knew there lives would never be the same once they signed that contract.
