Спорт

10:17, dude that weight class is so deep, he could do all the right things and still not win a match. I might not be correct about everyone but he has: Nick Suriano, Daton Fix, Ethan Lizak, Nashon Garret, Vitali Arujua, Seth Gross, Joe Colon, Cory Clark, Spencer Lee, Darian Cruz, Jesse Delgado, Nico Megeludas, Tony Ramos, Nathan Tomasello, Maybe Desanto and RBY. He has shown he can definitely beat all of them but a handful of these guys could beat him. Guys the list goes on!!! The round of 16 is going to look like the NCAA finals. His bracket and the weight above is going to be stacked from top to bottom, especially since it's an olympic year. My gosh, the only thing I can predict is some scrappy, entertaining, high flying wrestling matches early on

Truthfully spencer is the future of team usa and gilman will man the spot til hes healthy. I think everyone knows that including him.

A great or good training partner really isn't a big factor at this point. Gilman is a very cerebral person. He sees that he is on his way out of favor with the Brand’s & there is a new “ Flavor of the month”. Cejudo,, Zadick, Metcalf, McDonough, and Ramos all experienced this. There is no doubt that at some point so will Lee in coming years. The Brands’ do not have loyalty as a strong trait. There is no doubt about their wrestling ability. But, their long term (much past college) commitment to people is fickle. Let’s face it. The Univ of Iowa cares about NCAA titles. If a wrestler goes on to International success great. But the Bo$$ cares about college wrestling, not World & Olympic glory. The Brands’ like to keep the Boss happy.

I believe probably all of those factors had an impact to some degree, but the most significant has to be training in State College offers him something new and the ability to improve in ways that he wouldn’t get in Iowa, mixed with the Spencer Lee issue, which I don’t care what he says, that had to have some kind of impact and probably a pretty big one. But one thing you can’t argue with, the move to State College was the right choice and Gilman not only improved significantly, but he appears to have matured. I don’t believe that kind of growth would have occurred in Iowa, either on the mat or personally.

Different training partners i can see that in a way but Gilman has always been a loyal Iowa guy so i dont see him leaving for that. Only way he leaves and joins State is he wasnt getn enough love from Iowa. He watches Spencer get all the love and then he feels like retaliating some with a jab of his own. What is the biggest jab he could throw? Id say joining PS's Wrestling Club is a very good jab. It wasnt easy on his ego rolling with Spencer so i get it. One thing is the Iowa support he once had will go and in the end Spencer will get the spot anyway. Sports from college to pro's used to have unbelievable loyalty between the athletes the team and community . It doesnt mean much these days.

my gues is that Gilman knew that his only chance to beat Lee out and get an olympic spot was to leave Iowa and try to get different training style in a different location. Its a waiting game now, I know Lee is tough but can he come back fully from double ACL surgery, will it hold or will it give out again. Dreams are dreams but you have to wonder how its all going to play out from here. I was never a big fan of Gilman even as an Iowa fan. Typically the guys wrestling for Cornell, Nebraska, VA Tech, Lehigh... they know they can't get a start position at a wrestling school so they settle or they need the scholarship and take what is offered. Look at the wrestlers at Cornell for instance - several won an NCAA championship as an underclassman just to get beat in a following year... SAD!

Love Iowa and their program, but Iowa is hard face, head, nose in your face aggressive style, always attacking, really hard working going that extra mile, using their extra conditioning and hard work schedule as confidence to win tough matches. Russian wrestling is the opposite, one thing is they only train Olympic style wrestling, their conditioning typically isn't as good as the American's and they're the exact opposite style compared to someone like Desanto or Gilman who will be relentlessly attacking you and moving forward controlling the mat. A lot of the European wrestlers like a Chamizo or Tsabolov are a higher in their stance, not always attacking, but when they attack their dangerous, a little bit more throws and they don't scramble as much as the American's do, they rather just give up the two or push instead of looking to score. Their opposites. Obviously Russia has had a lot more success and dominance in on olympic scene in wrestling than America. However we don't which style is truly better, which is the whole reason why Americans always want to beat the Russians and Russia always wanting to beat America. All I know is Thomas Gilman's eyes were opened after seeing how the Russian and Europeans and Asians train in contrast to America

Screw new training partners cuz 1. You can bring guys into Iowa and 2. Having arguably, or probably legitimately the best 125 pounder in the country in Spencer Lee is as good as it gets.
