Why Formula 1 MUST Return to Malaysia.
Спорт
The Malaysian Grand Prix was held at The Sepang International Circuit from 1999 until 2017. Sepang provided us with some quality races throughout the years including one of Formula 1's wettest race. The monsoon like conditions mixed with the humid climate as well as a great track layout, has become a fan favourite circuit. Also, Tilke's best. Enjoy!

In general tbh, we need more Southeast Asian race. The weather in that region is so unpredictable, the rain can get intense as well which made Malaysia so awesome to watch. We also saw Singapore grand prix raining at night, which is just bizzare.

As a Malaysian, I don't see it happening next year either, I think around 2023/24 would be a better time. Ayy another fellow Malaysian. I remember going to my first F1 race at Sepang, which was in 2017, which was F1's last race in Malaysia. Tickets were quite pricey despite being 50% off for locals (type in IC no. for discount). The racing was good, and remember me and my friends getting squished by the crowd on the front straight during the podium ceremony.

The tickets prices were the major problem, imagine an average Malaysian earns about RM1800 equivalent to $450 more or less a month and the tickets could be pushed to RM4000-RM5000 about $1000-$1200 per ticket that amount itself requires an average Malaysian to pay 2-3 months off of their salaries, yes it’s an expensive sport but the economy here is just way out of balance and even the minimum wage for a Malaysian is RM1000 that’s $250 or about £200. the early 2000s were the best years of my life ive never missed an F1 in Sepang since 2000 until 2009 the last race I went was the multi 21 controversy in 2013, I had the tickets because my father worked in an automotive company in which it was under TOYOTA and were able to get the tickets at a lower price, they should bring back F1 here, and yes we have much more prominent motogp fans as the tickets were much cheaper it only cost RM300 for the start finish straight grandstand equivalent to around $90. And the cheapest for motogp could cost around RM75 that’s less than $20 so yes the ticket price are the main issue here

In some ways, what ultimately lead to Malaysia dropping off the calendar, and the Malaysian government withdrawing funding for race, was Singapore. Although the racing at Singapore doesn't hold a candle to Sepang, due to it being held at a time suitable for F1's core audience, after dark local time and in the heart of the city, it drew much of the crowd away.

Hahah I do like this track I guess
Now this is one of the circuits I would love to see back on the F1 calendar. Was really bummed to see it go. But at the same time, I understood why they didn't want to keep hosting it in Malaysia. As it's pretty close to Singapore (roughly 286 kilometers or 178 miles), that took all the interest away from Malaysian GP. Even, though the circuit is better.
Malaysia is genuinely one of maybe two tracks (along with Turkey) that I think ought to be included in the calendar regularly. I'd put it as a race in the same category of a legacy track that may not appear every year, or hasn't appeared for a long time, like Hockenheim , which also shouldn't be excluded. It's got a stronger case than the Nurburgring, Korea or India, imo, but if there are two events that I think needed to a few more years to take hold it's got to be Malaysia, followed by Turkey
I always love this track it’s creams formula one hi speed corners with a good mix of heavy breaking zones and an unpredictable climate, there really was never a dull moment at this track. Whether it was mishaps in the pit lane drivers crashing out of the final corner or just the track being nothing like it was predicted to be on race day you always felt like there was something just around the corner at this track. Lots of great racing and memorable moments. Definitely going to be a slept on track of the hybrid era. Also sidenote this track seems to be really bad luck for Lewis Hamilton, he’s arguably lost two drivers championships due to this track.
Ah yes my home circuit. But a return to Sepang is not really a likely situation as of now.Maybe in the future if my government able to control this pandemic or able to negotiate a deal with F1

by your logic we should rotate the races in the Americas between Canada, USA and Mexico, or rotate the French and Monaco GPs, etc... just so fans appreciate the sport more. Conversely, having it every year exposes people more often to the sport, and gives more potential fans opportunities to enjoy races live. The high cost of hosting each individual race (which affects ticket prices) doesnt go down if you host it once every three years. In fact it makes it more expensive, due to economies of scale and how its harder to secure title sponsorship once every three years (as compared to signing a multi-year deal with one company).

i follow f1 because of sepang 1999 race. I was there at the last race. Thankfully Max won it not Lewis.
Though I have never been privy to race in an actual Formula 1 or any other type of race car, I have been an avid "PC sim racer" over the years. I used to own the game, "F1 Challenge: '99-'02" many years ago. At the time, it was probably easily (and perhaps nearly still is) an uber-challenging and realistic Formula 1 sim, the best in its day. I raced very very many 'practice laps' at all the Formula 1 venues around the world for the years 1999-2002 but only entered and raced in one actual race at Silverstone, England. The race was uber-uber-uber-uber grueling and required ultra concentration and confidence. It lasted an hour and a half, about 45 laps (?) and I ended up, UBER-MIRACULOUSLY- finishing first: I beat Michael Schumacher (the best F1 driver of the 90s and one of the best F1 racers of all time) and his team Ferrari by a margin of 8 seconds. I raced for BMW-Williams. This is actually the only race I have ever entered...in any PC game I've owned: I've driven countless 'practice laps' but only one race. Hence, I have an unbeaten record and streak: 1-0. My opinion is that the Malaysia Sepang circuit is easily one of the best, and one of my favorite Formula 1 circuits that has ever existed: I don't know what your opinion of it is or how much other real life Formula 1 drivers like or dislike this circuit compared to other Formula 1 tracks. I think this is an awesome circuit: The track surface is somewhat 'slippy'-> (as Bear Grylls would say) and bumpy.......very very gritty. Whether realistic or not, this is how the track was rendered in the PC game, "F1 Challenge"... The circuit is primarily comprised of medium and high speed turns which are varied and fairly unique and original. I love how wide open this track is, I'm definitely not a fan of claustrophobic "street circuits" such as Gillevilleneuve and especially Monaco, which I loathe, and which track is totally impossible to race on the keyboard. The sand which encumbers the Sepang track seems to be deep and very difficult to get 'unstuck' out of once you veer onto it. Racing Sepang on the keyboard (I've never owned an analog steering wheel) is very challenging, but not overtly. A lap is fast and furious and intense. The grandstands are huge, colorful and nice looking...
I love Malaysia but the rain the rain is very dangerous
Its been seven years now that Formula One last time raced in Sepang and still havent returned even in 2024.
Not only Malaysia is famous for Sepang Is also famous for food as well. Hate me if you want, Sepang is the only track is the no.1 best track
Beside the high ticket prices, the cost of travelling there from Kuala Lumpur city center take a big chunk of your budget too.. Driving: - 60km round trip - MYR100 / MYR50 for parking spot - MYR10 - 15 toll cost round trip Shuttle bus - RM50 round trip Motorcycle - MYR25 parking spot Ticket price - MYR150 hillside (cheapest) - MYR1,300 cheapest main grandstand (there are more expensive seats) - MYR20,000 paddock club - MYR250 - 700 for other covered stands Currency exchange ; MYR 1 = USD 0.24 It's simply too expensive for average motorsport fans in Malaysia, and most of the grandstands are filled up by foreigners or fans who get free tickets from sponsors, corporate etc... We love motorsports but Bernie been bleeding us dry the past 20 years...

I think with the current regulations, it'll be super interesting to watch how teams come up with their strategies... the good thing is the circuit still hold many events and Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia starting again this year so I'm still hoping it to be back for F1
I think there's a lot of good tracks to go to like Dubai Autodrome is very similar to Sepang and would be much better than Abu Dhabi
I would like to see a thorough follow-up vid of How to Get F! back to Sepang. So what needs to happen to get it on the calendar again. Suggestions I read - apart from Covid - in the comments: - (cheaper tickets) -> a more diversified product/price arrangements to attract more (diverse) people - (competition from Singapore) -> like Mexico, US and maybe Holland: a group of investor/entrepreneurs who know how to refurbish an oldschool gp into a modern event gp with lots of things going on for 3 days long. Or is the entrepreneur culture weak because all is paid by the government? - etc.
As a Malaysian, I highly oppose having Malaysian GP in november in any year. Malaysia experience northeast monsoon from october to march and november and december has always been the worse month affected by it. In which we are guarantee to have heavy rain almost everday.
Also yes Formula One seriously needs to address ticket prices I’m from the US I’ve never been to a Grand Prix yet ( I’m 20) and would love to go but any ticket that’s actually worth your money is over $1200 if you want an actual Grand Prix experience not just sitting in a shitty see that you could barely see the track from and absolutely no access to anything you would want to see. And that’s not even factoring in the cost of a hotel and traveling. Just me as one person is probably looking at close to $3000 to go spend the weekend watching the US Grand Prix and in my opinion that’s absolutely ridiculous. I can go to the goddamn Indy 500 for less than 500 and probably bring a friend to. If Liberty Media wants any chance at truly pulling in the generation of people they are trying to they need to figure out pricing or else IndyCar and NASCAR will forever hold the hearts of 13 to 35 year old men
I just hope MotoGP will be held this year 2022 in Malaysia although I know it impossible due to Covid19
3:21 -its a different part of the world -Singapore bordering Malasia be like 😑
Sad that 2022 won't have this.
Shit man! I had the exact same video idea...But still a great one
Also there's definitely more F1 fans in Malaysia now that the focus group has shifted to younger audience. I have a lot of friends who watch drive to survive and are now F1 fans. As long as tickets are not expensive (which I know isn't for the new management), there is a lot of potential for it to come back. I definitely know the fanbase is younger and in turn more active and lively to attend races as older audience would be bother by the traffic, humid and crowd
I’m having a nerf battle so I will return ASAP
Could someone please tell me the name of the song he uses for the intro music with the trumpets?????
Honestly, if F1 can't effort the race in Malaysia, please just take that exact track and build it somewhere else. Because its so awesome, we just miss out on so much fun!
I'm a Malaysian F1 fan 😍
if we wacth moto gp 2019 highlights on sepang we would amaze how great sepang if full spectators
it won't return there because they go to countries that are rich/attract a lot of rich people (unfortunately for us regular fans)
V.Rossi said if you can conquer Sepang you can conquer all circuits.
Finally early to one of Australian Ethan Klein talk to me about F1, love it
