I do understand that i've talked about FIFA alot in the past, I recently watched a nostalgia based video on Call Of Duty a few days ago and it got me in the mood to think about what made me love FIFA in the first place, this is more of a rambly kind of video which I typically don't want to do but felt like the only real way I share how I feel about the game. How I connected with it and realising that maybe i'm the problem and that's ok Tell me your thoughts below

Nah Viz i think its just the older you get the more you change, all games have there flaws and all games have great things about them. Your fifa videos have been mostly negative for the past few years and you have really fell out of love with the game and its normal. But for some gaming still is an escape whether it is fifa cod or other games etc from my own experience God of War 2018 which i only got to play in 2021 for the first time made me fall in love with SP games again so did Ghost of Tsushima. So i hope you find a game that makes you fall inlove with gaming again and love the new direction the channel is going in stay positive man and keep growing the channel sending love from South Africa🇿🇦

I had a great time with FIFA 16, even though it was much worse than 15 IMO - for me, that was the last FIFA that my friends and I all played together, in Year 13. From 17 onwards you lose the immediate connection with the group you formed all the best memories of the game with, and it naturally discolours your experience of the game. Throw in the gameplay being much less enjoyable, the obvious shift in focus to e-sports/competition/exclusive rewards etc, the obsession of numbers for EA, and you can see the rest happen in real time. I tried FUT Champs once this year and I was sick of it after a few games. I could play 15 for entire evenings and not even realise it was the next day...

Beautiful video, Vizeh. FIFA is connected to so many of our childhoods (FIFA 13 was the first year I started playing FUT, largely because I saw KSI playing it) and up until FIFA 16 it was a game my friends and I played religiously. I still played 17, 18, 19 loads but it was different, less enjoyable, more engineered towards marketing ploys and endless content like you described. Obviously life gets busier when you leave school and you don't have the time to play it as much, but I think FIFA 20 was the turning point for me - I played FIFA 20 loads during lockdown and started hating it, because as you've said it felt like a job - endlessly grinding for marginally better players on SBCs, wasting your weekends on FUT Champions, draining your life into a game that isn't even fun to play. Obviously part of it is coloured by growing up, and the fact the world is a worse place than where it was a decade ago. EA have also tried desperately to make as much money as they can from the game (as they would do - they are a business) and so the introduction of time-exclusive content, "season"-based rewards etc are a given. I think the problems with FIFA can be found in many parts of society - everything is run to make money, to be the biggest thing ever, to rake in the profits, and the end product is soulless, miserable experiences for most people compared to what we had before. Like you said, will anyone look back at FIFA 23 in a few years time and cherish it? Does anyone seriously miss 22 or 21? I can tell you the exact line-up I had with my PL team on FIFA 15, and probably even the bench too, and they were just normal gold cards. We've been drowning in special cards for years now, many of which being players that would never have earnt it in real-life, and once the game ends I couldn't tell you who they were. I certainly couldn't tell you what the cards were for. The game was fun, and now it's a slog, which describes quite a lot of life in the modern age - the average person wants change, but a multi-billion company has a financial target to meet, so the game is made a certain way and that's that - just like with other game franchises, and if you look beyond video games you'll see it everywhere. Wider change is needed - but for now, we can reminisce with you about what was once a great game - this has certainly bee a great video. Keep up the good work :)

Great point about all the promos, i think that the huge increase in content is actually tied to the increase in pressure from creators on Twitch or KZread for consistency. Back in what most would describe as the golden era of FIFA, creators would not be doing any sort of scheduled uploads unless doing a series or something, because they didn't need daily or weekly uploads to bang views. However, now with the algorithm the way it is, consistency is necessary to keeping a channel alive on KZread and certainly creators like Danny Aarons and Pieface need new content almost daily to keep uploads fresh and interesting, so there is an immense pressure on EA from creators who hold huge sway in their business to add more and more to the game. Which of course is part of the games undoing.

You hit on a very good point which is beyond memories and actually about the focus of the game. I've played FIFA since FIFA 94. There were years when I played it less because of life. I play now on my own on evenings to chill out and it's pretty much the only game I play. I have a teenage son and he plays, but like most he plays other games with mates and of course has studying to do. I feel as a member of what was once FIFA's core target audience, there is too much pressure and focus for teenagers to play FIFA on their own chasing objectives rather than play with mates and focus on other things outside of gaming. For me, the golden times of FIFA was late teens to early twenties, a group of mates all together just blasting away evenings 2 v 2 in between Goldeneye marathons.

I completely agree with you with the way they're releasing new promos weekly, it kills the game so fast and year after year it doesn't feel that special to pack good players because everybody has god teams nowadays, u don't see random op gold or even silver/bronze cards anymore, nowadays you will pack a Messi or Ronaldo and u wouldn't feel anything, maybe just a little joy that u packed Messi/Ronaldo, but back in the good days u will pack a random totw, a random tots and u will go insane, it doesn't feel special anymore, u can play for a week and you will have an insane squad already, but they cannot go back to how it was because if they do that 90% of the community will go nuts if they don't see a new promo every week, if they do not see a new random Gullit gang midfielder, players like Nainggolan would feel so special, now you get Gullit gang cards in december, it's crazy bro, bring me back to fifa 13/14 when you would beat a full icon god squad with full silver squads

I’m 35, so I’ve got 10 years or so on you Viz, back when FUT and all the other online stuff was introduced, I saw all the micro transactions, drip feeds, and by appointment only acquisitions coming from a mile away, maybe because I was already that 10 years older, who knows, but I stayed away, and still mostly love FIFA still to this day, maybe because I basically only play career mode, and wasn’t conditioned to EA’s excessive bullshit? I actually think FIFA 2022 or 19 is the best. The only thing that really ticks me off with career mode is that we don’t get all the boots, like why can’t I have every single licensed boot to the game? Even the ones I unlocked from previous games, like why can’t we bring our boots we unlocked from say 18, and bring them to the current game? My FIFA account has been the same all those years, why can’t it save what Ive already unlocked from previous games? And why do some random players have exclusive boots that no other player has or can get? Nothing makes me more crazy then getting matched up against some non top 5 league team in one of the European cups, and some 62 overall has some super cool unique boots. Like wtf ea? Why? I’d rather you just piss in my coffee if you want to make a fool of me.

But in the same manner, a decent pack pull is amazing. If a team from 2 months ago was still meta now, then imagine how boring it is for those who played for those 2 months and couldn’t progress their team. You can’t have your cake and eat it too. And sadly we have all grown up and can’t play as much as we used to. So we are now just not able to enjoy the game as much as we did. And in the same light, the current kids growing up into the new FIFA’s (fifa 19 onwards) are going to look back to this fifa as their golden age where they played week in week out and constantly upgrade their teams and enjoyed each promo

I never bothered with the online bits of FIFA or PES because I was basically only able to play them on a relative's home every once in a while and the competitive stuff just wasn't appealing imo. Though I haven't played any of these games since the 2020 editions, I recall the core gameplay to still be somewhat consistently decent/good. But one thing that either series will always have in high regard is their soundtracks. Most of them have absolute bangers, and PES 2012's in particular is my favorite overall.

They have a reasonable amount of content and you can not hop on for a periods of time and not feel behind the curve. They give out decent rewards and TOTW gives you useable players. How can I be happy with getting JWP, could never happen in Fifa as you need to play to the meta. There will always be some pay to win players in every game but at least I can obtain the best players in the game. You can even earn points to attempt to pack legends. It’s a no brainier. Back then it was so fun and simple, start season mode, choose a team, sign players and you go for three or four seasons. I think around 04 or 05 was when it got a bit challenging (which I welcomed) when you could no longer sign players as you please, some players wanted to leave etc. but it was still fun.

Nowadays u gotta have the right body types right this n that which made the special cards n higher tier cards significantly better. For example, my Chiesa with a hunter has perfect 99 pace but he feels no whr as fast as al owairan because of body type and a load of hidden stats. Its just annoying n i miss the days of ibarbo or gervinho doumbia or insanely good silver cards where stats actually reflected how a card would play. I didn’t grow up with all the older fifa’s because I just started getting into football during the 2022 World Cup, (This is my first year of middle school). I started off playing fifa 22 and would just make a custom tournament trying to recreate the World Cup. I also made a career mode with my home club, it was so much fun now that I look back at it. 2 days ago in fifa 23, I packed team of the year icon Gullit. I was stoked and was screaming “NO WAY”, “OMG”. After that I got ones to watch Lewandowski. I even bought a team of the season moments Ito. I was so excited to try them out in a game of fit champs. It’s like you said though, even if you pack a Messi, it’s not even that good. I ended up rage quitting as I was getting beat 2-0 in 10 minutes. I miss the times when I didn’t have fifa 23 and played fifa 22 for the fun of it, not to compete with others.

But the biggest complaints back then were that you couldn’t get those cards. We remember the good, forget the bad, that’s nostalgia. EA listened, made it possible to have the best cards in the game, made it possible to be rewarded for playing (remember the 10K for div 1). I think our issue is that, because we can’t play week in week out, we no longer want this content, back in the day we could play week in week out so wanted more content. It’s just growing up, these years will be the golden years for the current school kids, for us the golden years are past. It’s sad but we all now have jobs, Uni etc and fifa is no longer targeted towards us.

I used to live in a small town growing up and all we had in our pc clubs was fifa 07 and we used to play it with lads for YEARS, ah such fantastic memories, even 5 years later we would come back to fifa 07 and have the best time of our lives. these days it doesnt even feel like a football game anymore

Fifa 13 was my first fifa that I played online, since it was the first time I had a PS3 (only played fifa on PC beforehand). I had so much fun on FUT. Managed to grind my way to being able to buy ibra and Ronaldo. But my favourite player was silver non-rare gabbiadini (who was destroying everyone in div1). My favourite team was the 352 bundesliga with arnautovic, esswein and Diego. Also managing to build a 451 snake hybrid and have it usable was so satisfying. But nothing gave me a bigger sense of accomplishment in that game as winning div1 with a bronze team. You just don't get that anymore.

My greatest carreer mode was when I got portsmouth from the league 2 to the premier and champions league... since fifa 15 I never really felt like doing such an effort again.

It just feels like EA doesn't care any more, Celtic park and Ibrox havent been in the game since like 16, and you look at the leagues missing, it might not seem like a lot, but looking back at that old footage, the amount of players from teams from Brazil is crazy, and now those teams only exist in some random game mode.

I remember packing orange MoM Ezequiel Lavezzi 87 rated overall in fifa 12( best player I’ve packed, I’m 27) but Tbf he did sell for like 900k, back then that was a lot more than now. Honestly I believe fifa have token the fun out of the game. Like in fifa 12, the finesse shots were op, you could literally score a goal over 30 yards, also, pro clubs was one of the most under rated game modes ever. Kids nowadays don’t know how fun it was joining a random lobby asking too join a club. I tend too agree it’s either because we’re growing up, or fifa on purpose has killed the game for money/profits.
