Working in a nursing home and helping people to pass over, literally holding my old folks' hands as they took their last breath because their families did not make it in time, was my wake up call. Make the most of your time. Live. Love like it's your last day.
My summary: • Memento Mori: You are going to die. • Death can happen anytime. • Life is short. • You are dying a bit every day. Every day you are 1 day closer to death. • Be keenly aware of your limited days in your life. • You will be forgotten. Every sign of you will be eventually forgotten. • Use your time to do what matters. • Time is non-renewable. Each moment that passed is never going to return. • Every moment is opportunity to live the fullest as the best version of yourself. It is an unique opportunity because this moment will be gone forever. What are you going to do with this opportunity? Use it or lose it. • Do not wake up one day with anger and dismay and ask: where did all the time go? • Notice the signs. Notice your face in the mirror. It has aged with time. This is to remind you that time is passing by and you are moving toward death. Mediate on your death every day. This is to charge you for success and not to depress you.

It definitely has some profound wisdom. If you dig longer and deeper tho, you may find some contradictions. But of course, it can be up for interpretation. Well, nothing is perfect. And life is just too complex to define it by simple maxims, I think. But Stoicism is definitely something good to know, preferably from the young age.

I was really angry about some communications issues in my family when the notification about this video reached me. Now I feel calmer. I have always thought about this death constant stalking, and I try to go to bed with a light head and heart because of it. I kiss my kids goodbye everytime... Now I'll move to the next level, to try to make almost all the moments to count. Anyway, if I die today, I'm pretty proud of the person I´ve become.
As Seneca used to say 👇 : Let us prepare our minds as if we’d come to the very end of life. Let us postpone nothing. Let us balance life’s books each day. … The one who puts the finishing touches on their life each day is never short of time.☘️
We waste so much time on instant gratification, instead of chasing our dreams we use social media, porn, videogames, etc... But death can take everything away from us at any second, so why not go all out, if you died today, would you be proud of the person you were? If not, then change something, recently I realize I need to go all out with my KZread channel because who knows how much time I have left

I'm involved in malicious court battles as a resident of an HOA (home owners association) in California. The property manager (now fired) is a vexatious attorney who filed a bunch of frivolous lawsuits to take our homes away from us. I had to act as my own attorney. I went to the Court of Appeal and won, against a nasty attorney. I went to trial in another lawsuit here at the community, and won. I had no experience, despise our corrupt judicial system, lost a lot of battles because of the corrupt nature of lawyers, lying witnesses, and bad judges, but I kept going .... all because I followed this channel.
i had to put my dog down yesterday and it was the first time i watched a loved one pass. in times like these i find comfort in the stoic ideas and perspectives on death, so you posting this video in the middle of me dealing with death is something i am very grateful for to say the least. one of my favorite quotes about change (and death for that matter) is when Marcus writes about how it’s impossible for firewood to heat his bath if it doesn’t undergo some sort of change or die in a sense. anyway, love the vids man will def be buying smthn from the shop soon

I know. Knowing death is constantly creeping toward gives me great comfort. On Mondays, I wish he'd hurry his ass up. Preferably before I get to the office. But yeah, knowing I'll die one day and won't have to work in customer service anymore, is where my outward serenity comes from.

Have watched quite a few of your videos over time, but this one specifically is extremely powerful. Thank you. I needed this. Officially a new subscriber and fan.
Memento Mori helped my mom and me reconnect. Kind of a weird story. After a brush with testicular cancer, I got heavy into Memento Mori. As a birthday gift to myself, I ordered a customized Memento Mori signet pinkie ring-actually costing more than my own wedding ring. The shop I ordered it from messed up and accidentally sent two. I offered to send it back, but they were based in Turkey, so they said to just keep it-maybe gift it to someone-though I knew everyone else thought it was weird to wear such an item. A few weeks later, my ring caught my mom's attention and I explained its significance. I thought she would be totally weirded out, but she just said, "What a wonderful reminder. As I've been getting older and had a few health scares, I feel Memento Mori could really help me appreciate the present. Can you send me the name of the jeweler?" "I can do ya one better-they accidentally sent me two rings." The year prior, she was diagnosed with diabetes, which scared her into completely changing her diet and exercise practices, reversing her diabetes and causing long-overdue weight loss. The downside was that her wedding ring no longer fit-but my pinkie ring fit her ring finger perfectly. I gave her the identical ring and she now wears it in place of her wedding ring. We joke that we're the Memento Mori Wonder Twins.
One of the best videos u made thus far Ryan - so many people need to hear this ... life is so short & they “ don’t live “ ... but live in the past !!
Hey Ryan, I just want to give a massive thank you for what you do. I just recently came across your channel, and it feels like everything in my brain just clicked. I'm currently 21, and I have been struggling with mental health issues. But after discovering your channel, as well as getting into philosophy I can feel myself getting better just by putting what the stoics said into action. I have a copy of meditations coming tomorrow, which I am beyond excited to read. For so long it felt like I was trapped, but over the last few days that feeling has started to fade away with each time I expose myself to anything philosophy related. So once again, thank you from a 21 year old guy who's starting to get his struggles figured out.

Time is always passing. No matter if you’re using that time to its full potential or wasting it. Time is super valuable and I love how your channel mentions that. So many people waste time and they don’t even realize that they’re wasting their valuable time until it’s too late. Bringing awareness to this topic is very important so thank you for what you’re doing. There are so many things in our time that we can be doing that we enjoy it doesn’t just have to be work or rushing around hustling. For me and taking the time to do my hobbies and realizing how valuable my time is to do things I love and I bring me joy I hope this can help someone

Loved the video work. Great message. I keep my 24 hr chip from almost 14 years ago with me. It's broken up into pieces now. The channel is educational and informative I love it ❤I wa reading an article and found this “Those guests also dropped bronze coins-53 of which were found during this latest exploration-dating back to Rome’s late Imperial period (250-450 C.E.). Archaeologists also discovered one rare orichalcum sestertius, a coin minted around 170-171 C.E. to honor the 10th anniversary of Marcus Aurelius’s rise to rule.”
You're just so helpful.. that is so great honestly... cannot thank you as much as I wld like too.. 🥺
Wow! I so loved this… why?!. Don’t know. But to sit and explore is as exhilarating as the Memento Mori fascination itself. Thanks for sharing 🙏🏾
I'm struggling with this thought lately, i try not to procrastinate, to make the time count, to deepen my knowledge about things that will help me reach my goals everyday. But when i imagine myself on my deathbed i can only picture me wishing there was more time.. About what , i dont know.
Before I knew of you my mantra was “ KEEP BUSY “ ... my Latin trainers would tell me “ VANGA VANGA !! “ ... @@olavonogueira8944 You know what's the root cause of procrastination? It's anxiety. Fear of failure, problems. With constantly reminding yourself of death, essentially you are 'fighting fire with fire', overpower smaller anxieties with a bigger anxiety. I do not think it's a way to reach ataraxia. Maybe it would be wise to calmly deal with anxieties that cause procrastinations in the first place instead of adding more anxiety to force yourself?

I think the idea is to embrace the inevitability of death. When you remind yourself that this is going to end, it can actually help you focus on the now, which is what truly matters. I get where you're coming from , i am there too, but i one day hope i will reach that level of acceptance.
@alexxx4434

The best video Ryan has done on explaining momento mori or every time I hear it I get wiser and take on new meaning from it which ever it is,it hits you when you think I've lived 40years no you died 40 years live today not 40years in the past.
Awesome!
I LOVE the perspective on these videos!
I really look up to this man I really wanna start living like him I just started creeping out of a rut I've been in for a year I'm ready to be get back to who I'm supposed to be
I did everything they told me to do. I got my accounting degree. I did internships. I graduated in the top 20% of the class. I didn't do drugs. I worked out to stay in shape. I followed all the rules. And what did I get? The minimum wage customer service job they threatened me with if I didn't follow their advice.
Thanks man, somehow this is the first time I have heard "memento mori" but its fascinating and not to sound cheesy but might be that missing piece if you will
There's been a few comments going around about how you're now always plugging a new item you've released and we should buy it or not. So, I'd like the naysayers to watch this. Your favourite reminder is a piece from a grave stone that you didn't get from your store. As I thought, you're helping to spread the word, and making some money from it. Why not? More power to you Ryan.
Life on a knife edge. It can all change in a heartbeat
Memento Mori is written upon the face of life and every birth is a prelude to decay and death
This is where i see conflict in this part of the stoic philosophy. Because there can be no life without death and death without life. To be born and alive is also to have a death sentence. So to me instead of always focusing on death or when thats going to be. I choose to live and enjoy the moments that make your day meaningful and happy. Because to be anxious and think about imagined suffering is to suffer more than we have to. So instead of thinking i might day someday being that to be true, i choose to think, i am alive today and i will live it to my best.
Awesome
LETS GO!!!
Is very true 💯👍🏻

As a third world citizen born in the seventies, I'm really sorry I didn't have access to all this knowledge growing up. Until my 30's I lived in complete naivety. I worked hard, got the money, paid the bills, feed the cat, wasted my time and money on useless things. Why it took me so long to learn valuable lessons like this? This should be taught at schools, to little children. Jordan Peterson says "choose your sacrifices" and it's true. I sacrificed my youth for nothing. All I can do is try to do my best with my remaining years.
