Cities like Santa Ana and Santa Tecla became hotspots for digital nomads, bitcoiners, and entrepreneurs. They are also among the best places to retire in El Salvador.
The cost of living in El Salvador increased, but it is still low when compared to the US, and there are many other pros (and a few cons) for this Central American country.
If you ever thought about living in El Salvador, this is the video for you.

🔎 EXCERPT 🔎
So we, from the Expat, talked to locals and did a very deep research to discover if this is true.
And it is, but some things still need to be fixed.
Ready? So we start with the Pros of living and retiring in El Salvador
And I will not talk about the beautiful beaches and the surf, because you probably already know how spectacular is the Salvadoran coastline.
Let's go for more pragmatic things.
And nothing more pragmatic than the fact that El Salvador solved CRIME.
It was the most violent country in the world, and became the most peaceful in the western hemisphere.
From 2015 to 2023, the country had a 97.5% drop in its homicide rate.
The amount of murders the country had in the entire year of 2023, is the same as it had in 9 days in 2015.
In 2015, the homicide rate in El Salvador was 103 murders per 100.000 residents per year. In 2023, it was only 2.4.
What does this number, 2.4, mean?
Well, let's compare it to some American cities.
Chicago has a rate of 18 homicides per 100.000 residents per year. This is almost 8 times higher than El Salvador.
Philadelphia, 20 murders per 100.000 residents per year.
Newark, in New Jersey, and Cleveland, in Ohio, both have 27 murders per 100.000 residents.
Detroit? Almost 40.
and what about Baltimore in Maryland? 55 homicides per 100.000 people per year.
So remember: El Salvador has only 2.4!
And despite being more violent, these American cities are much more expensive to live in than El Salvador. But we'll discuss the cost of living in El Salvador shortly, so stay tuned.

This is the question in everyone's minds. I think el salvador needs 2 more terms out of him. If a generation ranges from 15 to 20 years, then perhaps it would be wise to raise this new generation under bukele's leadership so that they only know and understand peace, justice and God. So that any other way of life is undesirable and foreign to them. So that only great leaders come from them.

The ccrime rate in many U.S. Cities is actually much higher than the Cities report. For example, some cities have simply changed how they accumulate statistics so they look better, like not counting the crime if no one was convicted or the criminal were released.

The decadence of our American dreams have led to rot and decay. We lost God along the way and look at us now. Neck deep in our own filth. El salvador seems like a refuge. To all who go there...check your bullshit at the airport you takeoff from. Let's not ruin that place. Amidst all the pain those people went through, they kept God in their hearts and theirs an innocence to them because they were closed off from our perversions. Let's keep them innocent.

No good for me --- I don't speak Spanish and they don't speak English ! - - - Retirement is very easy and it has great weather with a very low cost of living - and the friendly welcoming local people also speak English -- all -- in the Philippines !!! It's also very safe these days on most of the islands after years of murdering drug dealers !!! > Old people don't need the aggravation of learning a language and the frustration of feeling isolated - unable to read menus business signs......while - the Philippines offers up to 70% lower cost of living than the US average ! --?-- I am very happy for the people in El Salvador - I really am - I just don't speak their language -- and -- 'they' don't speak mine. Inflation will rise the more people that move there - already housing is becoming an issue as the desirability increases. Happening in the US as people migrate to more desirable states - it makes them more expensive - creating shortages - and they are then less desirable ? 🤔

@@the_expat I have spent 3 years looking for an - 'ideal retirement destination' - with my specific criteria. -- Many likely are the same in the US & perhaps Canada. -- English -- Cost of living -- Weather -- Safe -- Friendly Welcoming locals -- US Embassy with SS Office -- Many other US expats...... All to 'soften' my landing and help getting situated and acclimated ! - - - The beauty of having many islands to choose from is any 'budget' can be found -- I have seen / found -- from $250 / month in a province - to many thousands in BGC ! There are also higher elevations with cooler temps. Cities at various elevations up to 5,000 ft. In all over 2,000 inhabited islands !!! - - - They had a previous President who actually was a Mayor prior and personally murdered drug dealers on the spot ! He encouraged citizens to do the same and many did. That's how he was elected President !!! = Now - the prisons have a few but many were murdered and fear has kept it w/o drug dealers ! - - - Some 400,000 US expats are living on several islands - retired - some digital nomads and students. Many more English speakers from the UK - Canada - Australia - New Zealand - Ireland....... you get the picture. Many single people are quite content with $1000 / month. Some prefer a bit more especially a couple nearer $1500. Naturally more extravagant spend much more - but a considerable number appear satisfied with under $2,000 / month - unless for a family. I can't wait to get there this fall.

Some of the pros sound good, but you have mislabeled the weather as a pro. El Pital is a mountain. Nobody lives on a mountain. The "mild summer" in Santa Ana is labeled as humid, muggy or even oppressive depending on the hour of the day according to the website weatherspark. It is only comfortable or dry in winter at a time when you are likely asleep. Same goes for San Salvador. More generally it describes pretty much all of central america unless you are a hermit living on a tall mountain. You cannot just list temperature and ignore humidity when talking about comfortable weather. To other readers, lookup Dew Point temperatures on weather spark to find out how comfortable a place really is. Only looking at temperature or only looking at relative humidity is often very misleading. It is the combination of the too that is the difference between having sticky feeling skin all the time (or worse) or feeling dry/comfortable.

@@the_expat I am currently experiencing 78 F dew point (what weatherspark refers to as the highest level of discomfort - Miserable) in Boston. That is higher than the typical levels you find even in (IMO) inhospitable Cartagena. I hope to find some place nice and inexpensive to retire to in Latin America that isn't muggy.

@@Globetrotter-jz2uw I am currently looking at Arequipa, Peru. I have been in Ecuador for a half year during the last year. But other than Ibarra, it is either too hot or too cool (or too dangerous depending on where). I would keep staying in Medellin but Colombia seems to have shut the door on me for no reason anyone can tell. But for other people any of those three countries has cities with MUCH better weather than just about anywhere in SE Asia (even Baguio). I haven't been to Cuenca, spent all my time in Quito. I think people should consider it. If Peru doesn't work out I will put Ecuador back on my list. Concerning the topic of this video, Peru has the 2nd lowest murder rate in Latin America after El Salvador. Maybe Ecuador will get there as their president seems to be at least partly emulating El Salvador's president on crime.
