And as for Ed Ruscha's artwork, he stylishly delineates the power of words and elevates them, what's not to admire? We all speak and read thousands of words every day, he's taken something that we all take for granted most of the time and by isolating it has caused us to slow down and think. That's worth recognizing and celebrating.

Chris, this was so interesting. I'm particularly struck by the juxtaposition of natural powers -- mountains, fire -- and written language, which is so distinctly *human*. Also, coincidentally, I just finished S3 of Only Murders in the Building last night, and a Ruscha work is hanging in Charles's apartment (Nice, Hot Vegetables). Hope you're well --

This is good. I like to think that while Pop Art reclaimed the object after Abstract Expressionism's demise, Ruscha's words are, in fact, abstract. What does the word 'table' have in common with an actual table? We must learn the connection for ourselves. In Ruscha's art the connection between the words and image is often hard to discern.
