I already know that DreamWorks Animation was made by a former Pixar employee, just as the creator of Marvel Comics used to work for a competitor. The Puss in Boots sequel is heavily inspired by the spaghetti western genre. Some people have called it The Good the Bad and the Goldie. Disney’s only western was your flop.

Not a single thing was said that I disagree with. I feel like Disney have lost it, and they have to go a long way to regain the crown of animation. Even Illumination and Sony are catching up to Dreamworks, leaving Disney and PIXAR in the dust

I feel ya man. It's getting really hard to root for big budget animation companies these days, with them screwing up over and over and over again. However, I'm sure there's still hope. On the other hand, KZread is actually going through an indie animation renesonse (don't know how to spell that) and so many amazing animated TV shows such as Murder drones, Helluva Boss, and Lackadaisy are really pushing what animation can do. It's amazing!

Prince of Egypt is arguably the best animated movie of all time, Spirit is great, El Dorado is pretty solid, and Sinbad is just whatever. Glad that DreamWorks got out of it though.

I would rather say that Dreamworks is known for making rather not conventional movies and turning famous characters a bit out of cliche; whether it's super heroes or fairy tale characters. But Shrek is not directly a Disney parody, rather a fairy tale parody. That is why, I would say that Ruby is the only example for "making fun of Disney". But I'm not sure whether it's this time actually the same way also like Disney treats their own characters. Example Maleficent... I'm not happy about the Ruby thing, It's too directly taken from Disney and even if Chelsea is more physically like Ariel....OMG, what would have people said if Disney would have made a story about "good Ursula"....the backlash would be not different. Also when another company would have made an alternate Little Mermaid, no problem...

i do think shrek was both parodyign fairy tales as well as disney. i dont remember who made the video but i know there was a video somewhere out there that explained further how shrek was also mocking disney at the same time. but yes, ruby was a lot more heavy handed about it than shrek was

What I love about Dreamworks is that even though they subvert things constantly, they still honor classic stories. They have plenty of stinkers, but also lots of genuinely fantastic films. Although my favorite Dreamworks movies are HTTYD and KFP, which are just fantastic dramas.

not everything dreamworks does is supposed to be an attack on disney just because dreamworks was founded by a disney executive who was bitter because he didn't get promoted out of petty revenge something that's often exaggerated same thing with the origins of shrek as a movie which have in it of itself been completely exaggerated
