this is exactly what happened at the launch of the first game. they only removed MTs with the release of dark arisen.

Fuck Battle Passes, Monthly subscriptions, Microtransactions, always online requirement and DRM. All of that is the cancer in modern gaming. Edit: To clarify, if the game is for example some MMO that is initially free but requires monthly money to play it because you know servers and all that im fine with it. If the game has a price tag then no fuck off. I already paid for it now let me play it without additional cost unless its some big new dlc.

The only thing I disagree with is monthly subscriptions. Gamepass and PS Plus Extra are HUGE deals in gaming and let you play tons and tons of games that you dont have to pay full price for.

True. But... For me, I can either not buy the new Sweet Baby Inc game or I can not buy the new game with the MTXs. At the end of the day, I just have to be careful when making my character and the rest won't affect me. But being forced to stare at a square-jawed ugly fembot with no boba with no recourse is the bigger issue for me right now. and if you think I'm wrong, just look how important people are responding to a character creator issue.

They've been out in full force buying KZreadrs to hopefully change the tide in their favour. YongYea of course took their money. Sphere Hunter of course took their money. Skill Up undoubtedly has a fat cheque coming his way. And of course the gaming journalism sites are always on the payroll.

you can delete the save it's a lot more annoying to do than it was in DDDA since you have to do it outside of the game, instead of just being able to overwrite from the main menu.

Not every game suits my taste but I don't worry about being scammed or bait and switched when I buy games from Devolver, Paradox, Slitherine, and plenty of other publishers and developers that are in the business of selling good games and not looking to hook pay pigs onto live service MTX treadmills, or just looking to profit off investment money.

Also, and this wasn't brought up in the video, the game is so terribly optimized that Capcom sent out an apology letter. Apparently every character in a scene taxes the CPU far worse than they should, leaving people recommending to each other to "cull" the nonessential NPCs (i.e. everybody who isn't a quest-giver or trader).

You can get every item in-game with rift crystals pretty easily but it's still mind-blowing that someone at capcom thought "Yeah just add microtransactions for convenience" and didn't expect blowback from players.

You can change your appearance without the microtransaction for 500 in game currency (which isn't much) in the main city. Not sure how many times you can do this though.

Every one of the microtransactions is stuff you can easily buy in game for gold or rc like the item that lets you change your appearance, or they're items that you get all the time just by playing like wakestones. But because there are a couple popular negative reviews about the most optional microtransactions I've seen in a game in years, everyone is dogpiling the game without even playing long enough to see if the negative reviewers were talking out of their asses.

No slot. You get 1 character. You pay to change the RACE, also you get the item to change RACE ingame. That's how it works in DD1 too. You only get 1 character to play, REGARDLESS IF YOU PAY or NOT.

AAAA isn't real. It's just devs and publisher marketing tactic to get more money by labelling it "AAAA".

To be clear though, the item is one you can easily get in game. Someone else talked about this and mentioned how ALL of the items are stuff you can get pretty easily in game, wakestones included, and deduced that Capcom likely told the Devs “add mtx” and the devs pushed back with “pay money for the dumbest items in the game… or don’t and just enjoy the game.” Will say that the performance issues are absolutely a problem, but those need more calling out than the mtx.

I disagree massively. It really isn't quick and easy to get in game. It costs 500 RC to change the look of your character once, and another 500 RC if you want to change the pawn your saddled with for the entire game. It is NOT quick and easy I've been wanting to change my character since early on and I've still not amassed enough to change them despite playing for Hours. Especially when most other games such as baldurs gate and elden ring offer absolutely no payment for changing the look of your character. Because....why would it not be easy? It really shouldn't cost anything. I understand if it's an mmo or something and they want you to replay with other characters..it's a single player game and they want to charge you for making your nose less crooked

@@Merlinthehappypig i myself have earned 500 rc in less than the first 3 hours of the game, in part from putting a bit of effort in my pawn's capabilities, but also by killing certain enemies and looting chests I find. You can make basic appearance changes for in game gold, and then you can edit more in-depth by buying the item. DD1 was basically the same.

The funniest shit is that if they just released the game without trash microtransactions, the same as palworld and helldivers would have happen, they would just 100x their sales if they didnt do that scummy ass move, its so fucking stupid what they did

I don't care about "pay-to-win" microtransactions in singleplayer games as long as you can clear the content without them, this is a non-issue, just don't buy them. DMC5 had the same thing with in-game purchases, and the game was amazing, and perfectly playable without spending a single cent. Not to mention non of the microtransactions were in the review copies or even mentioned

Review bombing is when people intentionally negatively review a game in an attempt to harm the sales or popularity of the product. This is NOT what those negative reviews are. None of those reviews are made with the ulterior motive to try harming sales, they are genuine reviews of people unhappy with the games performance and implemented MTX.

@@Odyssey636 hey 😀 I didn't read all of the negative reviews and if you did, fair play. The ones I read were genuinely complaining about performance. Yes its anecdotal but thats OK. The ones I saw complaining about tue 1.99 MTX didn't say you can't do it for free through grind, they simply didn't like that being something in a shop and they are entititle to dislike it. Its not false though you are free to disagree with their opinion. Personally I know I will enjoy the game but I also see it as a negatively when you can get items through grind and with $$$ as the game usually then makes the grind annoying to entice you purchasing instead. Hence those specific items should not be in the shop and also should not be grindy. Just my personal opinion. You are free to disagree with it off course. Hope you are having a nice day 😀

You can customize your character with in game currency too. I do question the lack of a "new game" function. The first game had it. Seems like a step backwards removing this from the game.

I dont think anyone should call this "review bombing" because theyre all legitimate reasons to not recommend the game. "Bombing" carries a connotation like stretching truth or making a mountain out of a molehill. The new character thing alone is enough for me to COMPLETELY avoid this game forever. I refuse; I remake my character on every damn game w/ custom characters or classes, I make multiple characters before I reach the end of the game on every damn game. What colossal assholes. And on top of that there are performance issues on a game that looks like it's from 2015 and 500 secret last-minute functional microtransactions? Come the fuck on. I agree with the "bombers."

Yeah that’s like the weirdest thing I’ve ever heard. Demons Souls is like that too but you can have a bunch of save files there. Gonna assume people got it wrong and it’s like the first game, one save file and can only do a new file via new game, erasing your old file. Otherwise… yeesh.

changing your appearance doesn't cost anything IRL, the item to change your character is in the pawn guild in any big city for 500rc all of the "pay to win items" are findable in game with less then an hour of play time

There is a barber in the main town that lets you edit basic details for gold, and you can buy an art of metamorphosis with rune crystals (which can be gained through normal gameplay)

It used to be standard practice in RPG games to not let players change character appearance mid game. You got one chance at the start of the game. The devs should keep it that way.

Isn't the item needed to change character appearance sold in game for 500 RC and RC is literally farmable in game easier than in dogma 1. Or did they patch that out of the game

I deleted and remade at least 50 characters on dragons dogma one just trying new builds. I was praying you just had like 10 character slots for this one. Morbidly dissatisfying

Bad performance is a legitimate issue to complain about, the microtransactions are actually silly knowing that all of the items u can get in-game, including the ability to change and customize your character. There is nothing you can't get in-game and easily at that. The microtransactions are for rich and lazy people and they aren't necessary at all and they don't impact or hinder the gameplay in any meaningful way. I don't see a problem with it. If someone is stupid enough to spend money on meaningless items you can easily get in-game then go for it. Most of us won't. Is it a shitty practice? Yes it is, but if you have even a couple of braincells you'd know to just not bother with it.

Just watched moists stream on this game. Charlie had his game crash 9 times, which forced him to play on minimal settings with a 4090, and it still was crashing randomly. He went to go use restroom for a minute and his game crashed, after which he ended his stream 😂 Game of the year

He must have a weird hardware or software issue, it's not his card. Just played for 5 hours on a 4080s and 5800x3d and I had zero crashes, graphics at max, 1440p ultrawide, and sitting at 120ish frames outside of town with no DLSS. Other than the big city it's ran great, not to excuse the CPU bottlenecks with large amounts of NPCs cuz it's pretty unacceptable but you don't exactly need 100fps to pick up quests and rearrange your inventory so it's not game breaking currently

the microtranscation for currency and revive items isn't new (Devil May Cry does this and nobody bats an eye). But the one-character deal is crossing the line.

I haven't played the second one yet but i know that you gotta buy an item in game to be able to re create or edit your character in the first one. You gotta buy it with Rift crystals which are earned in game. I don't know if Rift crystals are still a thing and if they're earned by just playing the game for the DD2 but ngl this was expected from Capcom.

Yeah, that is absolutely ridiculous. I was excited to buy this game. But who the hell wants to play a $70 RPG with a single character slot.

I would definitely categorize this as a “whoopsie”, especially after seeing the immediate response from the dev. The whole “single save” thing is part of their creative vision, but being unable to delete your game and start over because the cloud save automatically restores it seems like an unintended side effect of the way they implemented cloud saves.

To make this clear. DDDA had this as well. Furthermore, you can buy 2 Character appearance change token in-game with RC, which you can also earn in-game through looting, pawns etc. (some things like hair, makeup etc. can be changed with gold). Also in DDDA you got an Item with unlimited uses for character appearance changes in post-game, and you could change the appearance at the start of NG+. As a matter of fact, everything single MTX they offer can be earned through gameplay without much effort. I really don't see the issue. The only difference between this game and DDDA is the MTX, and they can be completely ignored, since they don't offer anything exclusive. As for why you can only have one character (both in DDDA and DD2) - I assume it's because of the pawn system and the server not being flooded by low level ones.

Eternal glory to Larian Studios for Baldurs gate 3. Save, restart and create as many characters/stories as you wish. Truly a unique pearl in modern AAA dipshit

As an MH player, I feel like we're partially responsible for this. They pulled this shit on us in MH - gave us "Appearance vouchers" to change how our characters look. They didn't save file screw us yet, but this was the natural progression. Nobody fought back against the vouchers, now they press their luck again.

Admittedly I engaged with a lot of the mtx in World because it didn’t feel overly egregious and I felt they put a lot of love into the game and I wanted to show my love in return. Then I was inevitably betrayed in Rise when they released 1000 buyable cosmetics before even releasing their Sunbreak expansion, and even had a day 1 DLC Pack. Haven’t bought a mtx since then, hell I didn’t even buy the Sunbreak expansion. I can already see visions of live service MH: Wilds, complete with battle passes and Rises display of monetization and it scares me. I’ve been a fan since 4U and I hate to see where the series is going. Worst of all is the feeling of having contributed to it in World.

The difference is, these MTX in MH weren't that aggressive and felt quite fair in comparison. Probably helped that MH is considered to be an online / multiplayer game, where stuff like this is more common and accepted in the first place. I wouldn't even blame MH, since these Singleplayer MTX were also present in pretty much any Ubisoft or WB open world game atp.

They've been doing these microtransactions in their single player games since DMC5 if I remember correctly, with the most recent example being Resident Evil 4, people kind of ignored these cases but I knew it would blow up in their faces at some point. . . . . . . and there you have it, they just ruined the launch of their biggest RPG...

Performance issues is an understatement. I can't believe how far I had to turn down the graphics just to get through the dialogue of Vermond (or whatever its called). I kept dipping down from the usual 130-145 all the way down to 30s 40s and 50s in Verm. Which is weird cause out in the wild, fighting a cyclops who we set on fire at night time, everyone with glowing lights and tons of shadows, sitting at a healthy 144 frames......game needs some serious optimization

It's NPC behaviour and not GPU related, but CPU. Hence why in towns it's really bad. And that's why changing graphics barely makes a difference.

Because of "server" you can't delete save file. On PC you can just disable steam cloud save then delete the save file, you now have a new save file but yea, not having that option is crazy.

Nobody accepted. Everyone clowned on them for how stupid they are and I don't know anyone who bought it. But Capcom executives don't give a shit. They didn't at DMC. They didn't at Monster Hunter World. They simply don't care about negative reviews. They just blame the developers for not making it so the MTX were good and maintain the same shitty mandate of forcing developers to put microtransactions in all games.

I'm missing ground textures, seeing through the map otherwise I wouldn't complain about the game, and since that happens I can't play the game like that, hope they fix this as soon as possible.

So I'm guessing the whole "You can't change you're character unless you pay X amount of real money" was a carryover from the Monster Hunter games where Capcom implemented the same thing and they charged a lot for DLC and MTX. Capcom still needs to get criticized for still doing that and thinking nobody would notice. This was not in the original DD game.

So much misinfo on that front tho, The reviewers here saying that have zero credibility cause just going to the Big city early in the game and talking to the Barber person (scissors symbol) charges Gold to change hair,Makeup and Marks on your character and there is also a vendor in the city that offers these "can only get by spending real money" character editor books for... 500 RC, Look the micro transactions are bad Obviously,but the info needs to be accurate. These people complaining on that specific front Either didn't like there character and immediately attempted to change them (Which To be fair let us delete saves ffs) Which didn't work and saw the micro and assumed that's the only way or Didn't explore the main city enough early on where you can easily see how cheap the item is via in-game currency

When you beat the game with your character, that character becomes the next god, making your next new character challenging him at the end of that play through. I wonder if DD2 will have that feature in its ending again

Even for DDDA, this is just stupid af. The "fight your previous character" thing could have been implemented by having the player start a new game+ on the relevant save file, while still leaving them the possibility of creating a completely new and separate save file should they wish to for whatever reason.

@@Vanzgars like yea on paper that would be an improvement, especially when I get tired of playing a meme character i made over time, but thinking about how to handle that on a technical standpoint, that'll be a migraine to work out.

its not acceptable that you cant just start a new game on the main menu, but you can delete your savefile all you have to do is also turn off cloud saves and delete those too

well, guess it's one less game in my backlog.

I know what they did was shitty to do but I still highly recommend you to buy it. It’s actually super fun and amazing that 1 character slot is still worth it

@ivancouto1028 probably I will when it's included on PS+ extra or game pass. but at the moment I don't lack any games to play. so I can definitely vote with my wallet on this one.

Definitely odd for a ROLE-PLAYING GAME to limit you to one save file, effectively crippling how much mileage you can get out of the game since you can't easily replay it to see what other characters are like.

What the people who are replying to you fail to mention is that if you change classes, then the stats that you gain during leveling will be different. If you level as a fighter, you get more strength, so if you change to another class later on when you want to try something else, you'll have lower stats, meaning you're weaker if you want to try something like a, Mage or Sorceress.

I so wanted to try this .. never played DD1 ...but was hyped for this ... but now .. if there is no chance not gonna touch that game ...

Negative reviews are not "review bombing". Using this wording justifies Steam deleting bad reviews on behalf of a "victimized" company.

Its so odd to me that triple A games are doing shit like this they're LITERALLY destroying their own profits, especially from a studio that had no "bad" track record

The Game is great but dam. 1-Shady sudden Microtransactions that appear after release in a Single Player game 2-Very bad Optimization here and on consoles not o mention in consoles is cap at 30fps in 2024.... 3-Denuvo again in single player game 4- and been a 70$ dollar game only add more fire to all this issues Capcom going full greed with this one.

Its not capped at 30 fps. It has an uncapped framerate. It does hover at 30, but it also dips a lot to 20s and can sometimes go past 30

Wouldn't say that the microtransactions are shady. You don't even have to buy them. You get pretty much everything in game without spending any real money.

So like, when you beat the game what happens yo your character? Does it die and you start over? How do you start a new game?

the fact that the character creation looks so good is make that 'only a single character per game' hurts more....i love character creation in gaming and especially love it you play with multiple characters that you spend hours

I feel like I'm going crazy, a whole bunch of people are saying the save system is like the first game. Being unable to make a new save at all is not like the first game. In the first game you could make a new save, it just deleted the old one, which was fine, it's not for everyone but I was fine enough with it. Not being able to make a new save is a whole different ball game. Edit: The Original definitely didn't have the ability to make a new save (unless you beat A secret boss I believe). Dark Arisen Does have the ability to make a new save. For lore reasons, still disagree with it. Just don't think it's nefarious now. Edit 2: OK now I'm Really confused. I just started playing the original Dragon's Dogma (Not Dark Arisen) and seemingly contrary to what people have been saying I can start a new game. Is this because I'm offline?

@@Odyssey636 the saves are being stored on the servers. Turning off cloud saves and deleting the local caches doesn't get around the issue, people have tried that already.

Damn. I was really looking forward to this game. Had the scratch set aside, space and time saved up. This is why you never ever preorder ANYTHING. Dodged a bullet by just waiting for reviews.

Same I was contemplating whether to buy it, but now i'll probably wait for some patches and a sale. I'm honestly more concerned with the performance like I don't want to pay $70 and have bad performance especially when I have a mid/high tier PC.

Context: Some people are having consistent issues with the game crashing repeatedly as early as character customisation.

People are just mad that Capcom didn't make "Into Free -Dangan-" the opening menu song.

Its curious because if you look at capcoms recent games theyve done this everytime. But this time the game launched with them. Resident evil 4 remake has microtrasanctions for weapon upgrades that were added after launch by about a week.

the microtransaction stuff can be ignored but not being able to make a new character is absolutely ridiculous for an RPG

Having microntransactions in a game means that some aspects of it got purposefully worsened, and better gameplay is paywalled. That is fine for a free game, but not a fucking 70 USD game

A 70 dollar game should not have micro transactions.

Hopefully they'll do something smart in an update (sooner rather than later) and make it to where you have at least 4 slots to make a new character for each vocation. I mean what was the purpose of us having a demo to be able to create multiple if you weren't going to implement letting us use all 4 that we created ahead of time before launch!?

You can delete, but it's a really convoluted way to do it. Turn off cloud sync, delete save files, boot up game and start fresh. It works, but you shouldn't have to do all that.

I can't understand how people still pre-order games when this has been the trend for over 10 years now. Lol. Did you really think it wouldn't be fucked in some way?

why not? If its bad refund it. I'd rather them get 1 million pre-orders and 800,000 refunds knowing they did a bad job rather than sales just lower than expected and try to chalk it up to something else

Damn, you guys must hate the micro transactions in Helldivers 2 then. Because, just like Helldivers, all paid items are easily earnable in game.

Somewhat false info, you can 100% change your character without paying any IRL money, barbers change basic things for in game gold, body morphes can be done with Rift crystals. You cannot however make a new save.

The point is that it shouldn't even be a question that you should be able to change your appearance without paying any IRL money. The fact that you can't make a new save is in itself a problem worthy of being angry about, whether you can "earn" the ability to do these things in game doesn't mitigate the fact that this shouldn't be an issue in the first place.

You're missing the point. This is a singleplayer game, MICROTRANSACTIONS DO NOT BELONG IN A SINGLEPLAYER GAME. It doesn't matter if it takes you 1 day or 1 year to earn whatever pixel item it is. MICROTRANSACTIONS DO NOT BELONG IN A SINGLEPLAYER GAME.

After seeing what they did to the dragons dogma show I deffo wasn’t surprised.

You can get the items in game without paying for them though.

You can delete your character save file on PS5. I did it 3 times last night and restarted trying to get the weird walking animation right. Delete local save. Delete Cloud save. Play new game save. :)
