Critically, we know from season 6 of the Clone Wars that Artoo had been to Dagobah with Yoda, so when Obi Wan appears to Luke in ESB to tell him "you must go to the Dagobah system", R2D2 is able to get him there because his memory wasn't wiped after the fall of the republic. It's unlikely that any other nav computer would have been able to locate it.

Vampire? There are no vampires in Star Wars and Dooku is not a vampire. He's just an elderly human who's pale because his status doesn't force him to walk under the sun a lot, rather, dwell in his grand palace. Also, yeah, imagine how bad would that feel. Being exiled from your own palace to some swamp to eat frogs. But I guess it's okay for Yoda, his species seems to enjoy eating frogs.

Dooku could forsee the fall of the republic, so i think it's safe to assume that he wanted to protect his old master. Maybe somewhere deep inside younger Dooku, he wanted Yoda to live and not completely eradicate the Jedi. So he knew that only Yoda would know where Degobah was, and guessed that only Yoda would know to hide there. And by deleting it in the archive, he was pre-emptively protecting Yoda and keeping the Jedi order alive. On purpose.

Maybe there's a more scientific reason he deleted so many planets. tbh it's ridiculous on so many levels that a person could delete the knowledge of many planet systems without evidence, so it doesn't matter what headcannon you want to believe. What, the Jedi archives are the galaxy's Wikipedia on all planetary maps? No one who had been to those systems noticed this in the 20+ years before the fall of the Republic? No permissions required to delete them, no archive history, no system admins noticing? No one mapping new star systems to notice? No massive casualties resulting from hyperdrives blasting through these places in space that are supposed to be empty? No hungry corporations taking advantage of these unutilized planets not on the official maps? No one in who had been to these 37 systems in living memory going to the library and being confused? No books or posters or other non-electronic evidence of these missing planets and systems? Kenobi figured it out in a day after hearing a strange name and talking to a friend, but no one else ever did? The list goes on.

This is the theory I lean toward as well. I'm sure he realized at some point he'd have to defeat Palpatine to increase his own power, so he hid the various systems so he could gain more power in secret. The added bonus was a place to hide, just in case the inevitable happened before he was ready for it. As far as not being able to live on Degobah, his plan may have been a relatively short stay there before moving somewhere else a little more comfortable

Perhaps Dooku erased many to cause confusion, but some were specific. Maybe he hid ir for himself, or maybe he hid it in the hopes that if his former master were to survive the clone wars, it would give him a hiding place. We know Dooku did things (at least prior to the clone wars animated series) out of love for the greater good. It's not crazy to think he'd give Yoda a hiding place.

I sort of like the idea that Dooku was cooking up some grand plan in the background that even Sidious wasn't full aware of and using his job following Sidious' orders to cover his own scheming (The best deceptions being hidden behind truths - I have done your bidding master - and maybe just a little bit more you did not bid.) Only he never got a chance to carry it out because Sidious betrayed him earlier than he'd anticipated. I also like the idea that Dooku selected Degobah as a sort of emergency "My plans have gone to hell" hiding place from either the Jedi or Sidious; only for that same hiding place to be chosen by Yoda much later. I do think he has the self-discipline needed to, just barely, withstand the dark side nexus' mindfukkery,

Given that Degoba is a nexus point in the Force and is particularly attuned to the Dark Side, perhaps Dooku wanted to deny Sideous another world that could serve to boost his power. Dooku was possibly even saving it so he could use it to grow his own power to eventually overthrow Sideous, either to take his place as the leader of the Sith or to overthrow him to "Balance the Force", as Dooku was a strong believer in the old Jedi prophecies.

Watching this video makes me think of Dooku like a Severus Snape situation. Dooku was very intelligent, he knew very well that he could not underestimate either forces. For the same reason why he never had his yellow and red eyes like we saw in the other Sith, he chose not to fully commit to certain things. At the end of the day his motivations were mostly politically driven. He was disappointed with how the republic had failed as a government. If anything I think he might have had the mindset that Kylo Ren exposed to Rey: "Let the old die with the old, and let's make something new ". Basically let the old system burn and start from scratch. I'd like to believe that he looked to have contingency plans left and right.

  • @vdubsvideos4619

There’s another possibility: Dooku’s slide to the Darkside was long and gradual. In the beginning he was well-meaning, and could have believed he would be able to control or defeat Sidious at some point. If he deleted the systems at the beginning of his journey, when he still had some good in him, so to speak, then perhaps he deleted Dagohbah specifically so that his old master would have a place to hide when things go down - either for the purpose of having a back up if his alliance didn’t go well, or just out of respect for his old master.

  • @ericblue5436

Considering the affluence that Dooku comes from, I don't know if he'd have it in him to live in hiding on a system like Dagobah. Even if his plan was to hide from Sidious or The Jedi Order. I think there was more to it than him having an escape plan. But I can believe that he erased those three dozen plus systems from the archives to throw anyone trying to investigate his plans off of the trail. Even more so with systems strong in The Dark Side, as he might use their reserves to become more powerful than his master.

I think Dooku was very much aware going into his apprenticeship with Sidious of the Sith Rule of Two and that at some point his usefulness to him would end (especially if he took on his own apprentice) and consequently, he would need an escape plan before that happened. I think on the whole, he erased as many planets as he could that he knew were a nexus in the Force, both light and dark side, not necessarily because he could go to a light side nexus planet and hide, but because he wanted to prevent Sidious in his dark side avarice from altering the nexus in a planet from light to dark and thus allow Sidious to only enhance his powers because allowing that to happen would mean it would only be a matter of time before Sidious (or his new apprentice) would find him. Alternatively, as was suggested by another post here, it could be that he was planning to use every planetary nexus he knew of for himself later on to overthrow Sidious, as he knew that would probably be an inevitability as well.

I think palpatine had dooko erase planets that were strong with the force/dark side because he didn’t want it to fall under the area of imperial rule and therefore make them known planets. If they were known planets, then there would risk a possible force user discovering these planets, breaking the rule of 2, and disrupting Palpetines plans. He also wants to prevent Vader from ever finding these, tapping deeper into the dark side, and possibly becoming powerful enough to overthrow him, as palpatine knew that he had the potential to do so

I suppose when you look back and think about it Dooku's eyes never turned yellow. So he never really fully turned to the Darkside. He was somewhat of a mentally unstable and disillusioned Double Agent who was at a crossroads in his life and was never fully committed to either side. But also kept to his own internal compass of right and wrong. He was possibly walking the path of what some call a Grey Jedi. Listening to the Force to guide him, but with so many corrupted people around him both good and evil, his every attempt to get something done was interfered with and stopped. The Force was possibly what guided him to delete all of those planets, early moves on a chessboard to set up more advanced moves much later down the track. The Force had its own agenda, wipe the slate clean of the corrupt and try to reestablish a new Jedi Order with new uncorrupted people. Down the track the only real successful Jedi Order belonged to the future Empire. And that was the Royal Guards Jedi Order. Fel led them and kept them on the straight and narrow. The other Jedi Orders were easy prey to falling from grace and imploding from corruption.

Following the rule of 2. I personally believe that Dooku actually deleted those systems more so for himself than for him and Sidious. If he were to follow such a rule. He probably would've eventually had an advantage against Sidious when it would come to finally overthrowing his master. But also since Dooku wasn't necessarily the kind of evil that Sidious was. I think he was more so trying to lead Sidious away from such potential power in the event he would fail. Which of course had happened. So in that sense. Whether he realized it or not. He was more so helping the force take away any potential power boosts Sidious could've gained within that time he would reign as the emporer. That's more so my personal theory.

initial thought: if you're destroying data in your enemy's systems, it is possible they have offline backups somewhere you don't know about. If they do a backup restoration, they might notice the deletion, and that draws attention to the deleted item. A basic principle of cyber warfare is that you should avoid excessively-surgical deletions, because it will tell your enemy what you are interested in hiding from them. At the very least, by deleting 36 additional systems, Dooku ensures that if the tampering is noticed and investigated, the Order now has 36 false targets, and won't KNOW that those are false targets. it also makes it easier to cover up the deletion as a system malfunction. One system being deleted is suspicious. two is even more so. forty systems? obviously a malfunction.

I think you touched on a topic that deserves its own movie. To be brief... -Attack of the Clones, in the elevator Anikan told Obi Won "It's been 10 years since I've seen her (Padimae). -Later when Obi Won meets with the Caminos he says Sifo-Dyas was killed almost 10 years ago. -That 10 years would mean Sidous and Dooku placed this order when Qui Gon discovered Anikan in The Phantom Menace. - That said, clearly there is a story or two that needs to be told between The Phantom Menace and The Attack of the Clones. This should have Dooku deleting the archives, the why he did it. His relationship with Sidous. How important Sifo was to the Jedi counsel and his death.

If discovered, it would have perhaps not revealed the clone army but certainly would have suggested the party behind it. It would make more sense to have a seemingly random set of little known worlds erased so that even if more than one got noticed, it would seem like a random glitch rather than an act of subterfuge.

I also seem to recall some of the literature about that episode stating that Dagobah was a sort of primal world where the force grew from. Looking at all the ideas in the video and comments, a lot mentioned just sounds mysterious or has insufficient reasoning. This best idea below is that he wanted to obscure gravity readings to prevent deducing the existence of Camino. The problem with that is that it didn't work, Yoda was still able to deduce a missing planet and where it was. But if no one had a particular planet in mind, wiping out several was probably a good idea just to make the mystery more expansive and harder to guess at. I like the simpler notion that Dooku took the opportunity to hide Sith planets, except doing this too brazenly would have tipped his hand, as Jedi would presumably be taught the major ones. But if he only picked obscure ones to begin with, he might expect the risk worthwhile, to do something for the Sith cause in general. As a sort of fringe benefit, he might have selected some planets useful as future hiding places for himself. But as many have said, Dooku is too urban a villain to live in a rain forest planet. So maybe he just didn't know that, or picked some planets at random, or based on the cave story Yoda told him as the videographer posits. All of which suggests he just didn't give the matter that much thought, he was just giving his trick extra mayhem to make it harder to guess about.

I don't think he would have deleted that many worlds just to cover Kamino. The more systems you delete, the greater the chance your deletion is discovered prematurely. One world in a tiny satellite galaxy well outside the explored space, let alone Republic space, is easy enough to avoid detection on its own. I also don't think he had the system in mind as an exile. He liked finer things too much, I don't see him voluntarily hiding out in a hut in the swamp. Instead, I think he deleted Dagobah and the other worlds for his Master. Those worlds steeped in the Dark Side probably were worlds that could potentially be useful to the Sith; maybe for research, maybe to siphon power, maybe simply because they were important to Sith history (Sidious more than once showed he had an affinity for Sith history and culture for its own sake). Maybe eventually Sidious realized he couldn't really use them like he wanted and so chose to ignore them afterward, but by that point they were deleted and he figured no one else would be able to use them either.
