Why Does Social Justice Divide the Church? | Guest: Voddie Baucham | Ep 878

Today we're joined by Dr. Voddie Baucham, dean of theology at African Christian University in Zambia, to discuss his 'Fault Lines' curriculum and why it's so important for the church to understand how to talk about race and social justice in a biblical way. We discuss why we need to define terms such as "social justice," that have led Christians to talk past each other. Why are race and social justice the topics that tends to divide the church, and what can we do about it? We also look at the difference between how somewhere like Zambia sees the topic of race versus America, and we touch on why disparities do not equal discrimination.

    I was a social liberal, most of my adult life - until The pandemic which expose the fallacy and everything I thought. I was a teacher for predominantly minority students. Even the black teachers at the school wanted the few White status white Students in there class (For better test scores). The truth is that all of us successful students headstrong, parent connections, and expectations - and that’s all it took for them to be every bit of successful as white dudes I thought in another school. My point is Black adults have made failures of students because of diminished expectations, and almost nothing else. When I treated “worst” students like champions, they became champions! Everything will be told by race baiters is a lie! So much so that black teachers have a lower expectations for most of the students that almost all the white teachers! I actually had to confront a couple of black teachers for condemning their black students to failure! I was an absolute shock!

    Social justice divides the church when is focused in this world and not in eternity. Many Christians do not understand that social injustice and all the negatives things of this world are the fruit of SIN. That is why our call is to preach the Gospel. The Gospel is the only thing that can overcome SIN. No human strategy can overcome SIN and EVIL. "The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds." (2 Corinthians 104 NIV)

Gaslight someone else, my Parrish is very diverse and cohesive, but naturally. No one even cares about race like that, we’re all just sharing with each other and living life together. Beyond what ethnicity’s dish someone might bring for the Fall Festival that you can try, (which I love) who cares about such silly things? Anyone who’s community isn’t like that can worry about their own backyard, thanks. Sounds like this hard work from Baucham could help 👍😊. God bless his work.

    I think the pull on black Americans is because they were trained/brainwashed to identify with slaves more than white Americans because of the shared skintones. I've personally chose to let go of that "tie". It doesn't mean that i don't see the horror of slavery but it means i don't allow it to identify me. I'm not a former slave. The slave trade is the "reason" there are black Americans here today but that doesn't mean that's who I am. Also, African slaves became Americanized and took on American culture(not saying it was by choice just saying). In time they were more Anerican than African(I do find it ignorant that we say African when Africa is a continent made up of many different countries with their own cultures) My identity is nationally American and more importantly Christ. I think everyone should identify that way. If one chooses not to follow Christ and be made new then one's identity should be in one's country because the culture cultivates who one is.

    Can I ask a legitimate question about what Voddie said about repentance being about "my sin" why would Daniel in Daniel 9 pray "we have sinned". Also what is the difference between the fruit of penance and the fruit of repentance. Repentance is evidenced by fruit i.e changed behaviour not just words.

  • @jewelgazer

    @jewelgazer

    I think penance is a form of self punishment in order to atone for one’s sins whereas repentance is asking God to forgive us knowing that he will respond without punishment if we are sincere in heart. I don’t know if that makes any sense or not! 🤓

    If you're caught up into the secular words and language of social justice, environmental justice, white privilege, etc, then you're in the wrong and not in the body of Christ. Your doctrine is that of the world. There's only one race of mankind and that's the human race. Different cultures, languages, and nationalities. One of mankind. There's no such thing as interracial marriage.

    I think there is a particular danger in gathering teachers that agree with us on every point. Racial reconciliation is too important to what God is trying to do in His Body to keep rehashing the same talking points without any meaningful discussion & resolutions. Please get someone like Justin Giboney on the show so he can provide a more wholistic viewpoint that more accurately represents the majority of minorities thoughts on the issue… not someone that just agrees with you. Your show would be much better if there was actual pushback provided to your views. That’s what you need. That’s what the Body needs. Not yes men.

    I think reparations should be paid by the Democrats for giving us: The KKK, the Jim Crow laws, Planned Parenthood, welfare (which split dads from their families that resulted in the gang violence we see in places like Chicago). We should also tax Planned Parenthood, the teachers' unions, and similar groups that have destroyed black families. Then, the resulting funds should be used to provide educational vouchers to allow inner city children to obtain quality educations, etc.

    Stop making excuses. Grown Christians have to have discernment. Not pride. And it’s absolutely laughable to think that God is not “colorblind” or that your skin color matters in any way for your value as a Christian. Plus we all came from Adam, and after that from Noah. These are our ancestors. God choosing the Jews as the special nation is a true but different story. But even about the people of the God-chosen nation our Lord and Savior Jesus the Christ the God-Man-Jew has been absolutely clear and categorical: “Therefore bear fruits worthy of repentance, and do not think to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I say to you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones.”
