Next time you feel your sneeze starting to fade away, tilt your head back. I know some people claim that looking at the sun is the solution, but I discovered that, at least for me, the back head tilt is all it takes, even in a dark room

Actually, this makes a lot of sense to me; I can always stop a sneeze from happening but instead of using my finger to apply the pressure, I flex my upper lip and nose muscles, basically like you would in an exaggerated expression of disgust. I've always suspected that it had something to do with disrupting some kind of signal inside my nose, which is also why I tend to do the face repeatedly to stop a sneeze, as if sending more varied signals than constant pressure would. Super cool to know why it works, Its always just been instinctual for me

As a psychologist, there are many times when I just don't want to interrupt the situation with a sneeze. I learned on my own about pressing your tongue against the roof of your mouth. But sometimes I can also just let the potential sneeze "burn out" by arresting it, "holding it," somehow, before it fully gets going. Can't explain it, but it works.

Biting the opposite side of your tongue to the side of your nostril the sneeze is coming from also works every time. Slightly painful yes but highly effective. I Was taught that in a food factory and used it ever since. Also forcing/squeezing your lips together with your fingers so you can't breath out of your mouth will unblock a blocked nose or at least one side enough to breath through it. I often do this with a cold works a charm..although only temporary with a cold.

I've had similar success stopping sneezes by tapping on the bridge or my nose (the spot where glasses would rest). From the image of the nerve it appears as if this is accomplishing the same thing.

I had surgery on my right ear to remove a small, benign tumor called a cholesteatoma. It involves removing the tympanic membrane, and the three bones that connect it to the cochlea, then removing the cholesteatoma itself. In the process, however, at least one, perhaps two of the bones are destroyed (replaced with a titanium rod), and the tympanic membrane is destroyed (it's reconstructed using a piece of the fascia harvested from one of the muscles on the outside of the skull). Anyway, because the newly-constructed tympanic membrane is held in place by a few stitches and a couple of drops of superglue, sneezing for about 3 to 4 weeks after the surgery is *absolutely* forbidden!! Otherwise you'd blow apart all the surgeon's carefully constructed work. My ENT doc told me that when I felt a sneeze coming on to close my eyes, press my finger to my upper lip, and to exhale from my nose *very gently.* It worked 100% of the time for me. Didn't sneeze once in about a month! Amazing, but it's absolutely true!

I have a request for a video! In New Zealand we currently have a huge conflict about the poison 1080 being dropped. A lot of people are against the drops, however they are essential if we want to save our native wildlife. Would you consider making a video addressing the pros and cons of 1080 in New Zealand in our current circumstance? We recently had a drop that was heavily protested so there's a lot of people angry at the moment. I think a well put-together video would help address the misinformation that is being spread.

I find that pinching the bridge of my nose helps making the urge to sneeze go away. It also works with those annoying "Almost Sneezes" in which you feel the need to sneeze, but it doesn't come out for some reason, and you end up feeling all itchy in the nose area.

Rubbing my tongue on the roof it my mouth just as the sneeze urge hits actually encourages me to sneeze. So there goes that one!

I don't know why I never noticed this before, but the past few weeks it's jumped out at me that Hank pronounces the word experiment eks-spear-a-mint. I pronounce it eks-spare-a-mint. Or, to put it another way (because that may be as clear as mud), he pronounces the second syllable to rhyme with fear and I pronounce it to rhyme with fair. Does anyone else notice that? I've never heard it any way but mine before; is his way common? Is this a regional thing? Florida versus Texas (except, I'm not sure there IS a Florida accent, and I don't sound like the other Texans)?

But whenever I stifle a sneeze with these methods, I find I just need to sneeze again like 10 seconds later. The irritant is still in my nose I guess, we sneeze for good reason.
