Why Does Naru Call The Predator a "Mupitsl"? Prey (2022) Short
Фильм және анимация
In this video we look at the new film in the Predator fanchise, Prey (2022) and specifically the reference Naru makes to the Predator resembling a somewhat obscure Comanche creature called a "Mupitl" or "Pia Mupits"
Let me know what you thought of Prey (2022) in the comments below!

Something I believe is worth mentioning: that wasn't a lore accurate image of the Wendigo. Wendigo don't have a skull face or antlers. They are humanoid with tall, slender, extremely pale creatures. The Wendigo from Supernatural and Until Dawn are the most accurate depiction of the Wendigo in modern media
@tonoornottono

that’s not true. wendigo has been described a dozen ways in folklore. as you describe, but also with the animal features. the most consistent aspect of the wendigo legend is the moral messaging contained within. the physical description changes from speaker to speaker as all legends do. it isn’t the important part of the story.

Different oral Traditions are different in different societies and most tribes use stories as warnings and history so little is changed on purpose and much focus is put on keeping the story as similar to the last storytellers version. Every Native American version of the one who hungers describes a human who is still vaguely human possessed by the hunger spirit. It's whenever our story is told by someone else that it changes. And that's because it's a story that loses its meaning if you change out a human for a monster because it's supposed to be a warning against cannibalism and turning it into a monster kind of ruins the whole don't eat other humans thing

close, but no. indigenous languages are based on decriptions. sometimes, those descriptions can be vague because many things can fit into one description. i think Bigfoot would be the best way to describe it, but it's not an accurate description. it fits because you understood what they were talking about. you have to be fluent in the language & have a better understanding of the culture in order to understand the words more better.

Thats cool usually movies don't dive into stuff like this, or make it this pronounced and thought out and cared for diving into folklore this deep. Usually they wouldve just not care about it, or add blatant references to teach the audience about but everyone either already knows or doesn't care for example: whenever someone is talking about native american folklore and connecting it to their fictional world they always call a monster sometimes completely unrelated from or vaguely of a wendigo. It's drawn-out, simple, lazy, kinda disrespectful in some aspects, and easy. Nice to see they got an obscure creature from folklore instead of the main thing associated with it like the wendigo.

I feel like this Predator was designed to incorporate multiple different concepts from Native North American Lore, namely the Mupits as well as the Wendigo. The Wendigo in true Native North American Lore, is a human being who either became addicted to Cannibalism, or was transformed due to their greed and weakness, and the result of their unchecked gluttony turned them into Gaunt, tall, animalistic looking entities that desire nothing else but to torture their victims before consuming only human flesh. They are often depicted as hairy, dirty, and usually wearing the skull of a Predator, like a Wolf, or sometimes the skulls of gigantic Elks and Moose to appear larger from the horns, upon their head. They act like animals and fight with the strength of 5 men, are extremely stealthy as to be borderline invisible, and are also usually depicted as true Apex Hunters. Nothing be the most cunning of Warriors could ever hope to defeat a Wendigo, because the Wendigo lives only for the Hunt, only for the Fight; Only for the Flesh. . They gave the Predator a mixture of these 2 beings, tall and muscular like the Mupits, but yet hairless and almost gaunt looking like a Wendigo. The Predator is depicted as being the greatest Apex Hunter to exist, and only died due to a Cunning move made by a Hunter. This is literally the only way anyone could hope to kill a Wendigo. In a battle of strength, no human of any shape or size would ever hope to survive, not even with guns, because it’s stealth combined with speed in the dark is akin to a Werewolf. Impossibly silent and yet faster than a Formula 1 car at the same time. To kill a Wendigo, you’d have to prepare a truly elaborate ruse to lure it in, pin it down, rip its heart out, and burn it. Wendigos live exclusively in the coldest of places in America, and thus, only by destroying the heart with fire could you hope to stop it.
Big Foot!
Its actually related To the sitecah and the algonquin winter hunger
Boy was her description off.
this movie was better then I thought...when I heard it was a female lead I cringed that they would mess up the story but they made her very relatable and believable...in the end like Schwarzenegger she realized that raw strength and fire power was worthless against it and she had to fight it with her head and her knowledge of the environment ...I liked that it was more like the original predator and the monster was hidden for most of the movie
Well, Feral Predator doesn't look like a Mupit, but he sure acted like one.

The terrible Mupits! I knew a Mupit his name is Kermit
It does look like a giant Mupit
In Louisiana we have Ruga-Roo
Also, you'll notice his helmet and general motif was made of bone and he was largely less clothed/armored than the predators of the other films. I like to think that this was to get in the head of a human culture he hadn't hunted before, but I think it's possible it's also a vision of the evolution of the Yautja species and their cultural changes through the centuries.
@markbaltazar6916
Жыл бұрын
For me, I think this might be from a lesser known tribe within the Yautja society. Cause the director had dubbed this new Predator as Feral Predator, meaning this one might be more, as it's name states, less technology advanced, and most likely relies on hunting animals instead of humans first, then seeing that humans are worthy prey.
I can't wait to see this
Mupitsl sounds like a bigfoot
Adult storytellers went from terrorizing impressionable, naive, imaginative children with convincing them that there realistically were supernatural rated R monsters out to grab them up in a vulnerable moment and mercilessly snack on them if they messed up in addition to other wild animals who would also do that to... deeply censoring all their fictional stories to the point where it is often vapid fluff and marshmallow without substantial meaning, drama, suspense, or even a hint at a reasonably mature theme. I'm not sure which tactic is more unhelpful. I find it hilariously tragic modern humans look down on past human's ignorance whilst ignoring many of their fairytales were basically horror stories meant to intimidate them into blind obedience and compliance to ethics, morals, and social norms at the time.

Do yall think the mupits legend came from old world hominids that may have hunted humans on their way to the American continents? Something like a Gigantopithacus snatching up a child while wandering the old Asian forests would be something you want to teach your future offspring.
Interestingly enough, there are dozens of interpretations of a large, hairy, bipedal creature from indigenous people all over the world. Also the taking of children may seem folklorish, but we know that primates are known to kidnap babies and small children. If you indulge in the history of some of these "mythic creatures", some natives describe them as foul smelling, and some also mention they throw rocks and stones, all characteristics of primates, specifically Chimpanzee and Gorillas. With that being said, a tall big-footed bipedal creature roaming the vast Woodlands and alpine mountains may not be myth after all.
