Bria is probably the biggest Doctor Aphra fan I know. Now that the Doctor Aphra audio drama is out, I thought it would be the perfect time to talk about why the character is so great, and why she is so important to so many Star Wars fans.

Funny thing though, I have been reading the comic line with her and the idea of an in universe archeologist ala Indy ..finding ancient but still high tech stuff is extremely intriguing. The droids she have are damn cool... kind of a spiritual successor to the droid in the old republic games. She have grown vastly on me to be honest,and is now part of my personal canon;)

I've been wanting to start reading it, and I'm wondering if I should just start with her first solo run, or if I should begin with her stories in the Vader/star wars mainline comics. What do you think?
I was listening to the Dr Aphra audiodrama and its just like how she sounded like in the darth vader audio comics. Its perfect.
Doctor Aphra: a Star Wars story. Has a nice ring to it.
I have read her adventures since she came into the galaxy and she is one of the best, if not the best, characters in the Disney Star Wars era. Just got into the audio drama and even if it is a retelling of her in the vader comic I am still loving the fact we are getting into her mindset while all of that is going on. I hope we see more of her in other media, perhaps something in the Mandalorian?
So happy that the Audio Drama came out! She really is one of the best characters! Thanks for putting up this video!
She reminds me of Star Wars' version of Joseph Joestar
Brie is the best looking aphra I have seen in a long time
Great discussion! Think I've been convinced to start the comic, long overdue
Fantastic video! I love seeing these great people from our community pop up to talk about different topics.
Thanks for the discussion of Dr. Aphra. I just completed the audio book, which was really great, as I am a person who does not get into comic books. I hope more of the interesting comic characters I've heard of may get a similar book because I will read / listen to a book. Fun character, so glad they are expanding the universe! :)
Great idea for episodes, really enjoyed listening in to this one.
Doctor aphra is one of my favorites
Another great discussion!
This audio story was the first Aphra story I experienced, and I absolutely loved it! Now I really wanna go out and get the comics :)
Q & A: Love you channel If Savage Opress & Feral are the brothers of Maul, so are they the children of Mother Talzin? If yes, then why did Talzin let Savage kill his brother?
@bencebotye3904
4 жыл бұрын
I think the term "brother" among the Nightbrothers not necessary mean direct familiarity. Also Talzin did sold Maul for Sith alchemy, darksiders usually did not look upon they children as love ones, more of elongation of they will. Maul was the exaction, but that was also only for maintaining the resurrection of the Nightsisters.

According to the Ultimate Star Wars sourcebook, Talzin is Savages mother.
Said it before in this space, and I'll say it again: If they do anything with Aphra in live action, they should bring in Michelle Zauner from Japanese Breakfast to read for the role. She would be a cool, edgy casting choice
I have a list of SW animated series I'd love to see. An Aphra series is on that list, she had a fun story with Vader in the Marvel comics between ANH and ESB. I'd like to see that adapted in animated form. If she ends up with a live action series though, I'd rather see new stories with her character.
Aphra was the best thing to come out of the marvel comics and I enjoyed her first outing in a new medium.
Today I Got her first appearance 4th print at the comic book store
I’d be interested to see a video on the inconsistencies between the comic and audiodrama. I’d love to know what Aphra wants to hide!
My absolute fav in canon 😍🥰
Please do a chat with her about Iden!
I'm not sure if this character is going anywhere beyond comics and books. They all ready have too many characters like this even with her falling on the villain side of things. Second if they did bring her in on a live action show or cartoon they will likely change the character to make her more sympathetic. So it really wont be the same character.
Only if Aphra has her two psycho droids with her

Yo totally get the ralating to the character cause of sharing your ethicity. It's why Cassien and Mando are my two favorite new characters. Finally a couple badass hispanics in space!
Is Aphra in anything other than comics?
Doctor Aphra is the star wars version of Deadpool and Harly Quinn. Though sofar not as OP. I love her. And I want to see her on the Mandalorian or other Disney Plus show at some point. Her own show perhaps down the line. Once the death star II went up in "star dust" (pun intended) she was free of both Dark lords, so the hole Galaxy is hers

Funny you mention Deadpool, because Brian Posehn one of the writers also made a cameo as the human driver in ep1 of the Mandalorian. Aphra is one of the best characters of the New Canon, so I hope they won't overuse her.
This is so great! I connected with the Aphra character immediately, and love seeing her popularity continue to rise! Mollie, I also listen/read along as i go through the audio version. I also have the super power of fast reading/retention, so my process would usually be to plow through the book by itself first, then I'd go through it again, listening to the CD (or now audible) audio book, as i read through at their pace (though i still read ahead for bits, lol). It's a time commitment, but I work on my music as i read/listen (the over stimulation actually seems to help my creative focus - rabbit hole), so it never feels like "a waste of time" as others have suggested to me (plus, i love it, so time spent on something you love, is never time wasted). Excellent episode and dive into Aphra, formats, story, and character discussions. Proudly a patron (join me, and together we can... support this amazing channel ;-) Star Wars fans!)

Would be cool if Dr. Aphra will make cameo in Mandalorian season 2 but because she will not be that old because from time period if I am right it only passed 6 years after last time we saw her in comics so she might not be that much old.
Would be cool if Dr Aphra makes a guest appearance in at least one Mandalorian episode. Good way to link the comics with the TV shows.

At first I thought Aphra was kind of cool, her original appearance in the Darth Vader comics was interesting, but as she appeared more and more I grew to hate her being pretty much Star Wars' version of Mystique, a self-serving awful person whose only consistent character trait is her chronic backstabbing disorder.

Not sure why it matter's what your race is when you cosplay. Do you realize how many blacks cosplay as Captain America and Iron Man.
@StarNameKev

It's not that it matters specifically. It's more along the lines of seeing someone that looks like you go through crazy things is a confidence booster. Plus if the cosplayer wants to be as accurate as possible, race does play a factor. It's just what she wants to do and what she finds important in a cosplay.

@@AutisticGaming2004 Yes, that is true, but I don't believe that is the point she is trying to make. It you want to be as accurate as possible in your cosplay, race does play a factor. It's just not as important to other people. It's a confidence booster too.

@@AutisticGaming2004 I'm sorry that you feel that way, but I can assure there aren't as many Star Wars fans that only like characters because of their race or gender as you might think. TL;DR below (Long comment, you had a lot of good points to talk about. My bad lol) It's completely fine that you don't get excited for a character for just their race. Everyone wants a chaeacter to be good. The thing is, good is always subjective. Which brings me to how cosplay is a complicated profession. Not sure if this is something you have noticed, but cosplayers have often gotten hate in regard to how they look and how they are portraying the character. Technically nothing can stop you. But it can be annoying, frustrating, and even depressing when you receive hate like that, especially when it's not constructive. Every person is different, and everyone responds to things differently. Sometimes it helps if you see someone who looks like you kicking ass on the big screen or going on wacky adventures. It may not be important to you, but it is to someone out there. TL;DR I personally see race, gender, orientation, etc in movies, books, comics, games, etc as a gateway for people to feel like they belong, to gain confidence. If they think the character is good, then that is a plus. Maybe I'm just a bit naive, but I just think it's cool that people can relate to characters so quickly. They can always find out more info about them later and devide for sure if they like the character or not.
If you get excited just by a fictional character’s race or sexuality, there’s something wrong with you.

StarNameKev Race, gender and sexuality don’t contribute to making a good character. It’s a bit odd to immediately become interested in a character because of those things.
@StarNameKev
4 жыл бұрын
@@Mike-nu8qs Maybe interested is too strong of a word here. For any character, there is always something about them that hooks you onto them. Something that makes you think "I want to know more about this character." That's what's going on here. Race gender, and ethnicity can play a role in hooking you so that you'll find more info about them and then decide if you like the character or not. They are character traits
@Mike-nu8qs
4 жыл бұрын
StarNameKev Sure, they are all “traits”, but I just find it odd that they would “hook” people in. Personally, I don’t get hooked in by a character being LGBTQ. Who knows, maybe I’m missing some MIND-BLOWING complexities of a woman dating other women.
