Longine hydroconquest is just a submariner copy..... I would take The Tag heuer formula 1 Calibre 5, its a good watch to start with a unique design with Ceramic bezel, saphir crystal, and ETA 2824-2 wich is not a bad mouvement. More stylish and not a copy or imitation of another watch.

I don’t understand why all the hate. They would not sell Tag’s in the same stores as Rolex if they were no good. Why wear a Rolex if you can lose your life wearing one. Tag’s are good enough for daily life and have some class!

I love TAG Heuer. Have several of their watches. The selection is great and so is the quality and that a fair price. The TAG Heuer price range lets me use the watches that I have without having to worry to much about scratches. I don’t buy watches to hide them away in a safe. Sure, I also like to get my hands on a ROLEX but I’m not going to pay a flipper the prices that they are asking.

As pointed out on the urban gentry channel. To supposedly dislike a watch, because it is no longer deemed exclusive, because they are so popular and sell so well, is a very unusual reason not to like something. Tag Heuer Sell very well for a reason. And as also pointed out their quality and history is envied by their rivals. They have more quality check procedures than the likes of omega and they would, they're a much bigger company.

Good video, fair and balanced review of the Tag brand of watches and the value vs price consideration. My Carrera day date 41 is my daily wear. I love it… styled to my liking, reliable, and well made. I also like that it uses a eta movement because it will be reasonable and convenient to service when the time comes. The watch ticks a lot of boxes for me to wear daily, and I don’t need to treat it quite as preciously as some of my more expensive pieces. That being said I was able to get it for a 35% discount from my AD… which helped me pull the trigger to buy it.

This video is an example of my issue with watch snobs. In the "inflated MSRP values" chapter, the creator states that he does not believe TAG Heuer watches are a good value for the price paid - but then provides no basis for believing that. Third-party movement? Almost every high-end Swiss watch brand uses at least some 3rd-party movements. Build quality? I own a TAG Heuer Aquaracer 300 and I think the build quality is on par with other similarly-priced brands. If you're going to accuse a brand of producing a poor-value product, you should also offer some evidence to support your accusation.

And some points I agree, and some I disagree. Is Tag Heuer overpriced? At the Quarz models for sure, but.... Carrera Calibre 16 (7750) and Heuer 02, Monaco and Autavia are very good watches. The tourbillion is amazing for the money. If you buy the entry levels, you get ripped off. On the top end of Tag Heuer, you get value for money. Resale value: You get just a big hit, if you buy it at the beginning for the wrong price. Even at an AD you can get easily >20% off. I bought for example 9 month ago a 10300$ retail Tag at an AD. Heuer 02 Skeleton Black/Rose Gold 45 mm. Chrono24 the cheapest you can find ist 8800$ I got it at the AD for 7.8 (but maybe because of Corona). Tag changed in the last years a lot thanks to Jean Claude Biver. There not back yet (like you said because of the poor entry levels), but they are on the right way.

I would totally agree with you most of their offerings in their higher end department with the 02 movement are really fantastic watches and good value for money. It's just do people want to spend 7-8K on a carerra vs a Speedmaster Professional. Neither are a bad option, it's just one is seemingly the more respected brand with better resale so people usually jump on that band wagon. Pricing at the AD is definitely something I've come to realize that your average joe doesn't know they can negotiate the price so perhaps better education is needed on how the industry sells pieces. Also Biver is a God send for the brand. He's definitely pointing it in the right direction.

I think if you buy a tag used or grey market you’re getting appropriate value propositions. If you’re buying new you’re basically the guy buying the new car and eating the depreciation. Tags an okay brand, the mechanicals are a reasonable value and a decent build with fine finishing. It’s unfortunate that they’re being haunted by a reputation that was damaged 30 years ago by poor marketing and some unfortunate business practices. I’d buy one.

All 'luxury' items are overpriced, but I tend to agree on tag... now that didn't' stop me from paying retail for a new Aquaracer 300M (thte newest version), but I do think "maybe I should not have gotten this, maybe I should have saved my money, maybe I should have bought lottery tickets" Then I think I should have spent more on a Tudor, however when I picked them up they were simply underwhelming. They look good, people know them, they continue to get ambassadors , so the 'mainstream' people know it but the microcosm of watch people think different. A very fair assessment of this brand, I was watching T3's video on Panerai and he managed to bash Tag Heuer again on a video about Panerai. Somehow your video got recommended after I watched his video and your take on the brand is very fair (this is how I know if a watch enthusiast is just a band-wagoner or if he really knows what he is taking about). I mostly agree with your assessment. At the end of the day they do make good watches. Just don't get their quartz pieces. You can normally get them with a discount and at that price they are good value. I have two Aquaracer Automatics and they are well made. Comparing them to my Oris Aquis and Longines Hydroconquest, they are better. Comparing them to my Omega SMP and Breitling Colt, they are slightly lower. So given that, their quality does match their pricing. If ever I will buy another Tag Heuer it might be an Autavia or a Monaco. At the end of the day, their bad reputation among watch enthusiasts makes it easier for us to get quality used watches at lower prices.

Yeah there's definitely a ton of bandwagon haters, and I'll second you saying it's great that we can pick them up at a bargain. I actually ended up having sellers remorse when I sold the Link and managed to snag a 2004 Ayrton Senna Link. I have since picked up a Aquaracer and I'd say that it is better than a Longines Hydroconquest, when comparing it to my Oris Aquis, i'd say this, Tag does a way better job at actually giving the dial life and depth. They're just way nicer to look at and are more ornate. Oris just edges it out in the fit and finish, like bezel and crown action. I do find myself wearing my Aquaracer more than my Aquis though so that does say something.

The bezel action between the Oris Aquis and the Tag Heuer Aquaracer is a toss-up for me depending on your preference. The Aquaracer's Bezel is easier to rotate but not loose enough that it will rotate on it's own unknowingly when bumped. The Aquis Bezel is more solid and would never rotate on it's own, but is a little harder to rotate. I agree with you, the crown action on the Aquis feels better. All in all the Oris is more toolish and feels built like a tank, while the Aquaracer feels more finesse even though it's a sporty watch. I think tha's why the dial pops out more. I'd agree they've made a lot of strides in the recent years in terms of getting a cohesive catalogue going. They have some nice watches, also the 02 movement is stellar bang for buck

In my opinion tag warriors like Invicta in this way. Invicta make some good watches and Invicta make some crap watches. Some Invicta watches are priced good in some Invicta watches are not priced good. the same with tag where I think they make some good watches and I make they make some not so good watch and I think some of their watches are overpriced. Overall I like both brands. But I'm not a huge fan of most Invictus that are too big guardian ugly that that Shaq has become a part of. Thank you for the video I like your opinion.

Let's be fair. Your assessment of Heuer going downhill once TAG acquired them may hold water, but I do not believe you have any knowledge of who TAG was at the time. Do you even know who Ron Dennis is? It wasn't like some shit group came along and bought them out. Ron Dennis was part of the ownership group that bought up Heuer. Do the names Mercedes or McLaren ring a bell. He led both of these auto manufacturers to dynastic Formula One teams. Perhaps it wasn't entirely his fault. Sure he may know nothing about watches, but I have learned something about men who are successful in multiple fields. They surround themselves with people who know their trade. I do not believe TAG ruined Heuer.

I agree with you 100%. Without TAG, Heuer would most probably have gone down the tubes; it's as simple as that. So the watch snobs can cry in their beer all they want, TAG is part of Heuer's history. Besides, most of the TAG haters are just being sheep, rehashing what others are saying without thinking for themselves. Almost every time TAG Heuer releases a watch with only Heuer on it, they think it's fantastic. Same company, same watch, just another label; that's all it takes to turn their hate into praise. Go figure.

I'm sorry you had a bad experience with the brand. I do agree their formula one line to be sub-par to their other offerings. Having a calibre 5 aka ETA/Sellita go bad is super rare though. Absolute workhorse of a movement, so don't know what to tell you there. Half of the swiss watches have one of those movements in them.

The problem of Tag Heuer: The watch was made of softer grade of steel. Easy to be scratched. The watch is not time accurate enough for its price. There are many better watches in its price range.

Actually Movado is the Movado of watches, ya know since Movado makes watches... Also you've apparently never had a tag because they are certainly no ap or Patek but they are definitely luxury watches. Some models compete with Longines and some with Omega and Breitling.
